Oh, I bet the S8 will get the stock Android if the S7 got it and I'm happy to wait.
I wouldn't be too keen on it.
The Exynos S6 didn't get much AOSP love since the devs abandoned the project because getting the camera to work was very difficult, and people kept pestering them, fights happened, threads were closed, people were banned, it was a shit show.
The S7's AOSP ROMs were developed by a dedicated team that made AOSP possible on new Exynos phones, I believe the guy behind CyanogenMod for the Exynos Note 4 helped out greatly in the success of Lineage and RR for the Exynos S7 and S7 edge.
If shit goes wrong with AOSP for the S8, you can count on it never happening then. We need to have a dev with big enough balls to take on the project first since we haven't heard any news yet.
the camera is utter dog shit.
Exynos phones running AOSP have dog shit cameras as well. The post image processing, and the Camera HAL couldn't be ported over from the TouchWiz ROM, and so they had to compromise on camera quality. I had RR on my S7 edge for a few days and although the ROM had no major bugs, any camera enhancements or stuff like 4K recording wouldn't work. The quality was pretty bad.
My main gripes are bloats, I can live with touchwiz, but I like to keep my homescreen minimal and I absolutely don't want Samsung's BS bloat. Other than that, I can see myself upgrading to the S8.
Minimal homescreen? Aren't you a Nova launcher guy? What's stopping you?
I even know a guy who's developing AOSP style status bar icons for the S8 to work without root, I tried them out and although there are alignment issues, he's working on it.
To be honest, I'm a fan of the new TouchWiz Home Launcher included with the S8, it's light and snappy.
I do have a question for you, I personally haven't used the S8 or the S8+, but how big is the S8+? I read a boat-load of ebooks on my phone and I want the ergonomics to be good and the size to be not huge. How huge is it compared to other phones like the iPhone 7 Plus?
It's like a 7 Plus height wise, but it's narrow, which makes it surprisingly easy and comfortable to hold, even with one hand.
