Have you seen JoJo's? the third season just ended a couple of weeks ago. It's a very solid action/comedy anime and if you enjoyed F/SN, the third season for Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya (spin-off show for f/sn) is gonna start airing starting july 25, other than that 2nd season of Durarara!! is airing so pick that up if you enjoyed the first season.

Watched two films over the span of the past few weeks.

Wolf Children:

Heart warming and fun. I don't think I've seen many stories revolving around the struggles of parenthood, props for executing that well. The movie tried to skirt around the moral dilemma of being human but didn't quite represent it all that well. Would've loved to see a little a bit of despair thrown in the mix, but I guess it wasn't that kind of flick. Good enough to recommend if you don't mind a little supernatural thrown into your slice-of-life.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time:

Light-hearted and mundane for the most part. Great production values all around, animation and sound went hand in hand really well. Characters were good. As far as high-schoolers in the realm of anime go, this movie had some pretty decent ones. Had some unexpected humor at times as well. My only gripe is that the story wasn't as well delivered as everything else. The sci-fi plot was as sub-standard as these things come, got a little weird near the end, and the ending itself didn't feel as fulfilling as I was hoping. Give it a go if you enjoy carefree and ambient tones.

Hey guys,

A year or two ago, TrueCoolGuy recommended the Berserk movies to me. I FINALLY got around to watching them, and I'm a little disappointed - not with all three movies, but the third one which just generally ruined everything.

The first two movies were good. Loved the animation, the story, the music, the dark gritty feel and the action. All was well. My only issue was that the lore was not properly explored and explained. Demons were given no background, Griffith's Behelith was not explained (and who gave it to him? Just some random lady? Or was that a demon in disguise? If so, why choose Griffith?), what was Griffith's relationship to the king in the second film, and at times I felt like the conflict between the kingdoms could've been better explained.

I expected the third movie to clear this stuff up, but it didn't. Instead, it made things worse. So the behelith just HAD to be lying there? There just HAD to be an eclipse and all that bullshit with the demons, without any prior proper explanation? Man, I really wish they'd done a better job at explaining the lore and stuff. Totally ruined things.

Are things better explained in the manga? Should I start reading it?

So you finally watched the movies, good on ya. Let me start off by saying that the movies are the worst way for anyone to get into Berserk, the movies remove a few plotlines that were in the manga and the anime, while they weren't exactly integral, they built the lore of the show. Other than that, the movies OST pales in comparison to the anime and I'm shocked that you didn't complain about the absolutely pitiful CG soldiers that were in the movies. Anyway lets get on to the actual issues you have with the movies.

Spoiler: show

I agree, the lore wasn't well explained in some instances but at this point in the story we don't get an explanation regarding the Apostles (demons). The bit with Griffith and the behelit is pretty straight forward he was destined to receive it, this is explained in the end of the third movie where we get all the flashbacks and how Griffith accepts his destiny and becomes a part of God Hand. Griffith's relation to the king in the second movie should be pretty obvious, Griffith slept with him for political favors and the kingdoms were fighting each other for land, I don't really think that needs any further explanation.

I can understand your frustration, these three movies are the origin story of how Guts became the Black Swordsman and how Femto came into being. The anime and the manga don't start with the origin, they start in medias res, after the eclipse has happened and shows Guts hunting Apostles and explains the Behelit and the Eclipse in detail so you can be ready for it when it happens. The movies sole focus was on the origin story hence why you were blindsided with the third movie.

I would urge you to read the manga it explains nearly everything in detail and should clear up any misunderstandings you had with the movie and as a bonus it's the best written fantasy manga available.

Hey guys,
Hey, faget. Long time no see.

You finally got around to Berserk but in completely the wrong order that I recommended it to you. Good job. (y)

But seriously, I think you would have enjoyed it better if you watched the show first and then the movies. Like Ark said, the show had more plot lines and details than in the movies. There are small moments that give everyone more character and events are given more time in the spotlight. I think the worst part of the movies were how little they fleshed out Griffith. He was actually a pretty decent guy that cared about all of his subordinates.

Spoiler: show
Enough to become a sick pedo's boy toy just to get some extra cash so his guys don't get merc'd. His behilit is given a stronger presence as well. And there's a certain part in the anime that is completely taken out in the movies that just gave the entire show more weight.

Long story short; watch the anime. It does a better job at explaining stuff and is a better representation of the manga. Also, it has that OST composed by Susumu Hirasawa. The guy's the f*cking sound of Berserk. So, watch the anime. Then read the manga. It gets way, way, way more f*cked up and better.

Anime is way better than the movies in art, ost & overall direction. Movies provide slightly lengthier closure.

Recommend me some awesome anime/Movies !!!

One condition though, it must NOT have nudity or strong sexual themes! Berserk was awesome & all but it was the first time I saw the 'sex stuff' in anime form & it was disturbing to say the least

I prefer dramas , awesome stories etc. over the usual 'actiony' stuff in general!!! e.g, Studio GHibli anime <3

Most of Ghibli's stuff is usually pretty overrated in general, the only thing I would recommend from there is Grave of the Fireflies and maybe My Neighbour Totoro.

Otherwise, check these out:

Sword of the Stranger.

Redline.

Metropolis.

Garden of Words and 5 Centimeters Per Second. Both are a bit slow and their plots aren't exactly exceptional, but they should be a safe bet if you're looking for drama.

I have seen everything from Ghibli! Have seen 5 cps also, was good. I need MOAR recommendations. Doesn't have to be dramas only.

Have you seen Satoshi Kon's anime/movies? If not, try Millennium Actress. The rest of his work is also fantastic, but there's nudity in some.

Also, I second the Garden of Words/5 Centimeters Per Second (Edit: I see you've already seen this one) recommendation. Makoto Shinkai's work is great in general.
