Although the Nvidia GeForce 400 series has been out for about 2 months now, it'd seem the jury is still out on whether or not the series is a success. Some will tell you the GeForce GTX 480 is a power-hungry expensive GPU that failed to deliver, while others claim it lived up to the expectations as the world’s fastest single GPU graphics card and that power consumption figures are for sissies.
While we feel the truth might lie somewhere in the middle, it is time to take another look at the Nvidia GeForce GTX 480/470 vs. ATI Radeon HD 5870/5850 comparison.

The GeForce 400 series, particularly the GeForce GTX 480, is a serious piece of hardware that at least on paper should leave the Radeon HD 5870 dead in the water. Our first go at this board revealed that while it was priced ~20% higher than the Radeon HD 5870, on average we only saw a 16% performance increase based on the dozen games included in our benchmarking phase. Perhaps more relevant than that, we found that when placed under full load the GeForce GTX 480 consumed ~30% more power, while at the same time it attempted to send us deaf.
Its time for fanboyism!!!!!!!:bdance::banana:

as GTX470/480 released after a couple of months, it is very usual that they are leading by a few fps
the thing is price/performance ratio as mave3 said, heat and power consumption, ATI wins in all these things
if 5xxx lacks by a few fps, but it still it remains within reasonable playable fps

Reasonable prices? You guys are using Core i7s that you don't need. Sound cards that play minimal role in performance. Expensive casings, coolers, PSUs...
But when it comes to NVIDIA vs ATI, you suddenly start to value PRICE.

That is just prejudiced bullcrap.

I like NVIDIA better, so I'll always prefer their cards. Video decoding on GPU is a great feature that most people tend to overlook.

^^

We have no option that can stand among i7s. Better casings, Coolers and PSU are NECESSARY.

Difference b/w ATi Nvidia cards are big, 5850 costs 30k and GTX470, which is almost equal to 5850, costs 10k (Same case with 5870 and GTX480, 15k difference). Now will you explain why would one spend that much extra money?

ATi owns nVidia when it comes to price performance, i also love nVidia but price makes me think.

^^^OH noes another nvidian joined the RED camp.

BTW the Fps difference between doesn't justifies the price of GTX470 specially in Pakistan.

@ ASKnASK
If people here had other choices than Intel than i am sure u would have not seen that much core i7 user here.

bro if we buy expensive stuff we dont have a choice like a 1000 w psu costs around 20000 do you have any alternative ? (here i talk about 5850 and gtx 470) now even a stupidest could see that 5850 performed very well against 470 (and considering the price here in Pakistan) its almost 9k less then 470...now who would buy a lesser card for a greater price ?

^ Why do you need 1000W PSUs in the first place?

If you're on a budget, Core i5 should do, along with a simple 600W PSU.

If you're NOT on a budget, GTX 480 it is.

@asknask
yeah pay 15000 more for 10% performance increase + oven + power hungry card... :)

and moreover pay 9k more for a lesser performance :)

and 1000w psu was a reference you can cut it down to 500w psu :)
