So this is how my home network is setup. I have a PTCL ZXDSL modem router and connected to it is an old D-Link DIR-615 wireless router. Connected to my ZXDSL modem router is my desktop PC. My laptop I use wirelessly but sometimes I connect it via ethernet cable to the ZXDSL modem router so as to get a more stable connection. The problem is that the ZXDSL and the D-link are both 10/100 which makes it a nightmare to transfer large files over the network. I intend to use the laptop for torrents but all the excess storage place is in my desktop, so i'll be transfering files regularly. I need to shift to 100/1000 gigabit. Both my laptop and my desktop are 100/1000 gigabit. I don't mind having to connect a lan cable to my laptop whenever I need to transfer files. What would be an economical way to go about this

Looking for the answer to this too, but all I have heard is that all clients need to be gigabit for the network to work on gigabit

For occasional file transfer you can simply connect your PC and laptop via a LAN cable, thereby taking a router of the equation.

Otherwise you'll need a router with a 1GBPS ethernet port.

Yep thats as economical as it can get. Interchange IP and Gateway among the two connected devices and transfer gbs of data in a matter of 10-15 mins.

Ok lets say i am willing to spend a bit of money. What would my options be. I want a more permanent solution than the LAN cable route

So if i dont connect my PC via ethernet to my ZXDSL modem router, and instead I connect my PC via ethernet to the D-Link DIR-615, or any other secondary router for that instance. Would it inturn affect the quality of my internet. Will the net become slower or will the ping values increase on my PC

No. It won't effect your internet.
