XBOX LTTP: Forza Horizon

About 6 hours of playtime, and I'm compelled to write about this.

The last time I religiously worshiped a racing game was Burnout: Paradise; hot off the original NFS: Most Wanted fever, which I probably played as much as a Halo game. I feel this game has struck some interesting tones with me that I didn't fully appreciate before. Yes, the racing games I liked before this were too arcade-y. And yes, Horizon is nothing close to sim-racing. But what's brilliant about it, is that it's right in the middle of those 2. On top of that, there's just something Utopian about the world of Horizon that's unmistakably original.

Whenever I start a session, I'm compelled to make to the highway. The incredibly long stretch of road is excellent for my souped up, 100bhp Skyline R34. Hitting 230MPH is exhilarating. Successfully dodging traffic through my shaky cockpit view with rock music blasting my ears, occasionally looking over and admiring the barren landscape (which surprisingly looks pleasing) stretching for miles, is quite simply, blissful. Damn near perfect image quality of this game is astounding.

Currently I'm playing with the following settings:

ABS: On
Traction: Off
Steering: Normal
Driving line: Breaking only
Opponent difficulty: Hard

I think I might just tip over and buy Horizon 2. Let's see. Props to playground games for this effort.

Though i don't own an xbox 360 and never played any of the forza games but i do like to poke my nose where there's talk about racing games, so bare with me

ABS: On

Turn it off, you'll feel more in control and will be cautious while going into the corners as you might lock the brakes

Steering: Normal

Is that the steering assist? Turn it off man, its more fun without it

Driving line: Breaking only

I'd rather play without that, i just ruins the experience once you get used to playing without the racing line you won't wanna use the racing line again

ps, turn off as many assists as u can, not just for a game play point .. also because you earn more points and can get better cars quicker

I'll try turning off all the assists and see the difference. At first the steering mode was "Assisted" which I switched to "Normal". The advanced setting "Pro" stated that it's best suited for players using a wheel. I'm on a controller. But I'll try it out and see how it affects the behavior. I won't be turning off the breaking line though, as I'm still not well versed with all the twists and turns. It's slightly more challenging than a full driving line. That's just too easy.

You can leave the racing line but turn off ABS and steering assists to see what difference does it make

In Forza Horizon, the difference between 'Normal' and 'Pro' is that 'Normal' adds some deadzone in order to make the controls less sensitive to your input, whereas 'Simulation' is 1:1. Assists are disabled for both settings.

From my experience with the first game, drifting and counter steering is easier with 'Simulation' enabled, so that's what I'll be using for FH2.

The setting below "Normal" is "Assisted" and that is truly assisted lol. The game forces your car into the proper driving line if you get close to it.

I was exactly talking about that one, the car will push towards the racing like. It should never be used in a racing game

Bwhahaha...not bad for someone who isn't into racing games much.
Anyway the best way to know how hard this game can be is to turn off all car related assists like abs, TCS etc and then try a fully upgraded supra. Best experience ever!

It's very unfortunate that my Xbox 360 seems to have taken its last breath. After my OP here I wasn't able to play Horizon. After some hints of resurrection, about 5 minutes of play, it seems to have completely died now.

I blame the Jtag mod since the chip sits right above the display-out port. And it's only been very recently that I've started to take full use of the Jtag with Xex menu. Seems like an idiotic reason but....well. It's been fun. I'll see if I can have it fixed.

Very sad day.

EDIT:

Just to point out. When I turn the console on, there is no display and no activity on the ring of lights. The green power light in the center stays constant. Lights on the ring are off. And it stays like this.
