Locally bought Note 9 not PTA compliant?

As the thread title states, I bought a sealed pack note 9 from an authorized distributor, but without warranty. It has the samsung gulf warranty sticker on the side if that helps.

The shop is legit and they said it was PTA approved, however I checked both IMEIs (dual sim) on DIRBS and it said not compliant. I called the shop and they assured me that it was complaint and the website will take time to show the status.

Any idea how long it takes for the website to show correct status?

Samsung Gulf means Dubai import.

If it was truly sealed, then there is no way they could've made it PTA compliant, since they would have to open the box, put a SIM card in it and make a call from both SIM card slots to get the IMEIs registered with PTA.

If it was self imported, then they probably didn't register it at an airport and thought they could get away with selling a non compliant device.

Email PTA at [email protected] and ask them if it will change to compliant after both SIM slots will be used, or whether duty payment is required.

Well it came with OneUI out of the box...does it mean they did register it and "re-seal" it? Or are note 9's coming with OneUI out of the box now?

Manufacturing date is 31.01.2019
Then it is possible that it shipped with One UI.

Since they're shipped to the locations they're intended for sale in, around 2-3 weeks after manufacturing.

So it was imported very recently from UAE, and was probably actually sealed.

Thanks for your help. After I called the guy about non-compliance, he assured me they did get it approved. Could they have done so with the IMEI no. printed on the box? I think there is no requirement to boot it up, only IMEI number needs to be provided.

Yes, the other way to get it compliant is by visiting customs house with both IMEI numbers, and paying the required fees to get it in the DIRBS database.

Hopefully the site updates soon enough with the correct status.

If I bring one sealed phone with me from abroad for using it here, will I need to pay anything over it? Or visit PTA/something?

If you're only bringing one phone, it will be duty free. Just get it registered with PTA upon arrival at the airport.

Actually its like, my friend may visit Pakistan in May and I have asked him to bring a smartphone for me, so he will be bringing one sealed smartphone with me along with of course the phone he is already using (bought from here), like you said it needs to be registered, can I do that on my own or does it need to done right there on the airport necessarily? (I just want to minimize his hassle ).

You can do it yourself online at PTAs DRS portal, but since you're not the one who brought it to the country, I'm not sure if the 'one phone free' rule applies.

If your friend registers the one he's bringing for you, it won't be an issue. He can just say he bought a new phone for himself and since one phone per year is allowed without duty, they will register it at the arrivals hall at the airport.

Well i guess the shopkeeper was lying as other people confirmed that it takes 15mins for PTA to update the database.

Thankfully, i recently traveled abroad for 2 days. I read that non-compliant phones can be registered within 60 days of arrival, so with nothing to lose, I created an account on DIRBS by providing my passport number and cnic, opened a "CoC" with both IMEIs from my phone and it successfully confirmed registration! What a relief.

Just ask your friend to provide his passport number and cnic, register online on PTA's website and apply for CoC (cert. of compliance) - it's very simple.

You should have checked the compliance status before buying ! . Lots of phones are being circulated in the market which are not PTA compliant, and these idiot shop keepers are charging full price for it.

I would recommend to return the phone to the seller and ask him to get it PTA verified or return your payment.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
