3. MID-END LAPTOPS WITH GPU (LIGHT GAMING)

* Price Range = 50-65k *
(Buying guide for this section AND the sections coming after this will be different from the previous ones as there are hundreds of laptops in this range , here i will list the specifications you should look for before buying a laptop in this range. following are the specifications which i can recommend to you)
*** Good For = Light Gaming.***

RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATIONS:

 • Display : 1366*768 is good enough
 • Ram : 4gigs minimum , 8gigs preferred
 • Storage : 750gb is a sweet spot , 7200rpm drive recommended.
 • CPU : I would suggest you to stay away from the Laptops with U or Y series processors if they are looking for some low-mid end gaming, i5 4200m would be a good choice in this mid-range department.
 • GPU : One should look for a gt 740m,840m,750m,745m,650m,radeon HD 8750M in the 60k range , all these have good driver support, all these can run most modern games on low-mid , many games will also run on high TAKING in account of the screen resolution of your laptop.
 • Lenovo IdeaPad Essential G510 - Core i5-4200M (2.5 GHz) CPU - 4GB Memory - 500GB SATA Storage - 2GB AMD 8570M Graphics in 60k is a good choice.

4. TOUCH SCREEN, WITH/WITHOUT DEDICATED GPU

Touchscreen Laptops WITHOUT a Dedicated GPU:

* Price Range = 40-70k *
*** Good For = Multi-purpose Office Work.***

RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATIONS:

 • Display: 1366*768 Touch Screen
 • RAM: 4GB or more

Notes:

 • U series i5 would be enough
 • U series Processors provide great battery life
 • Dell has some good offerings in this range.
 • HP Envy series laptops are also great. (An HP Envy Touchsmart with a Core-i7 can be had in this range.)
 • Core-i7 4500U, 4510U and i5 4200 U series processors are mostly used in these devices.

Touchscreen Laptops WITH a Dedicated GPU:

* Price Range = 80-120k *
*** Good For = Gaming Nuts.***

RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATIONS:

 • CPU: Core i7 47xx Series Quad Core CPU Minimum
 • RAM: 8GB at least
 • Storage: 1TB (1000GB) + 60GB SSD At least (for Operating System)
 • Display: Minimum Resolution = 1366x768 ; A 1080p Display would be a better choice (games will scale and look better)
 • Dedicated GPUs: GT-740M; GT-750M; GT-840M; GTX 850M; GTX 860M
 • Optional Stuff: Backlit Keyboard,

NOTES:

 • If needs be, spend more on a better dedicated GPU instead of spending an extra 150$ for the 1080p display (Give preference over Performance, than aesthetics)

RECOMMENDED PRORUCTS:

 • Hp Envy 15 and 17 TouchSmart Series ~ Some really excellent devices in this price range , staring from around 80k to 110k with GPUs ranging from GT740M TO GTX850M
 • Lenovo Y50 Touchscreen Laptop ~ An excellent product with a GTX 860M (a GDDR5 4GB) GPU, Core-i7 4700hq and FHD display. (Prices ranging from 900$ to 1200$ for different customizations).

5. Laptop/Tablet Hybrids

* Price Range = 30-150k *
*** Good For = Multi-purpose Office Work, General and Multimedia Usage.***

These devices considered by many are the Future of laptops , but at least not from my point of view..

ADVANTAGES :
 • Battery life of these devices is usually very good .
 • Portability is also a big advantage.

 • These are devices that are able to serve as both a laptop and a tablet, either in a detachable design that sees the touchscreen doubling as a tablet, or a convertible approach in which the notebook's hinge rotates 360 degrees for a similar effect.

Disadvantages :

 • Usually these devices come with small amount of storage and for extra storage a good amount of money has to be spent.
 • Cpus in these devices are mostly low-mid end , Laptops with similar specs can be had for half the price.
 • The detachable keyboards for these devices are mostly sold separate for a high price and are not bundled in the package , also these keyboards are not as good as most of the laptop keyboards.

Suggested Devices :
1. Dell venue 8 pro,venue 11 pro,Dell inspiron 13,inspiron 11,Dell Xps 12
2. Asus t100,t200,t300,tf701t etc
3. Lenovo Yoga devices and thinkpad yoga devices.
4. Surface Pro 2 and Surface pro 3.
5. Acer Aspire switch
6. Hp split X2, Spectre 13 X2

Out of all these devices , i myself prefer the Offerings from Lenovo in the mid-high end department and Asus devices in the Low end department,The keyboards on the lenovo devices are excellent and also the pricing is good ,Dell XPS 12 is also a good device in the mid-high end department , it offers a complete laptop like experience with a full sized backlit keyboard dock,FHD Display with Corning Gorilla Glass and a solid construction. MS SURFACE devices are also good , but the keyboards of the devices are not so good and also the price is a bit on the higher side.
~ Under Construction ~
WILL COMPLETE THE REMAINING PART OF THE THREAD WITHIN A FEW DAYS , CURRENTLY AM ON A TIGHT SCHEDULE.
If you want to ask any question related to the topic , please feel free to ask :)

what are your preferences?
i went to market, and i liked Dell inspiron 5547, i7 4510u, 8 gb ram, 1tb HDD and 2GB Amd R265m GPU. It was costing 75k, now is there any better option this ?

- - - Updated - - -

I wont game that much, i have a pc and ps4 for that, just photo editing and casual university work.

IF YOU DONT GAME , then skip the dedicated gpu and get a i7 4700mq if you want to instead of the 4510U , the integrated hd 4600 can do the job well , also the Amd R265m is even slower than the nvidia gt 740m,so for the price doesnt seem fair.
I would suggest you to save your money and go for Lenovo IdeaPad Essential G510 - Core i5-4200M (2.5 GHz) CPU - 4GB Memory - 500GB SATA Storage - 2GB AMD 8570M Graphics in 60k

the i5 4200M in Lenovo offers slightly better performance than the i7 4510u and it also comes with a dedicated 8750m which is more than enough for regular usage , it can save you around 15-16k and offer similar performance to the dell 5547
Another good alternative can be HP Probook 450 G1Notebook PC - 4th Gen Intel Core i5 4200M - 4GB Memory - 500GB HDD - 1GB Dedicated Graphics Amd 8750M - 15.6 HD LED Display in 60k

Seems like a good initiative.

@winchester khan

Now that this topic is a sticky, I would like you to share some responsibility in updating the contents of this thread since laptop models change frequently. I, of-course, will assist you in this matter long-term. You on-board?

Wow Chhowni
How's the build quality of the Dell Inspiron 15 series? The previous Dell's I've used had creaking body parts. Poor craftsmanship.

Secondly, what are the alternatives to Surface Pro 3? I require a laptop which can double up as a tablet (with or without a keyboard attachment). Must be light-weight. Surface Pro 3 is a bit too pricey for my liking.

For surface pro 3 alternative ,check the first page of thread ,in the tablet/laptop hybrids,have an inspiron n5520 in home , the build quality is good , having no issue at with it after a lot of rough usage , it's still in excellent condition , in the build quality department Lenovo laptops are really well built ,Hp devices are also quite good

my opinion: display is mid-range , keyboard is also not of my liking , the keys feedback was not great,the 5400rpm drive was also slow and the lack of an ssd slot (msata ssd) was also a negative , on the other hand , gpu and cpu performance was really excellent , the device was well made,also really liked the design and the speakers were also good ,battery life is average
