Lag on the Huawei Honor 5X is driving me crazy

A question for all cell phone gurus!

Hey all!

I'm very curious. My Honor 5X is unbelievably slow (read: laggy) despite having 2 gigs of RAM and the Snapdragon 616 - which is an octacore chip for God's sake.

I can't even explain how terrible the experience is. Itna lag, kabhi kabhi toh I can't even pick up calls. Opening system apps like Dialer, contacts etc takes 6-8 seconds - YES, SECONDS - on average. This has been since Day 1. Jab se phone dabbay se nikala tha.

I attributed the lag to buggy software (Huawei's official ROM) and switched to Lineage OS 14.1 but damn there has been absolutely no improvement.

Many people (on XDA) suggested clearing the cache, removing unused apps (the age old advice for android users) when the phone gets slow but I don't have more than 25 apps (which is restraint on my part, I mean come on - itni toh hoti hein at the very least), I make sure there's no clutter, wipe the caches regularly but still nothing.

Beech mein I started blaming the Snapdragon 616 for this when switching to LineageOS didn't work. Didn't let anyone I know buy a phone with Snapdragon's 600 line of SoCs but it just doesn't make sense. My friend's Moto G4 has the Snapdragon 617 and it works fine. Even the Moto Z Play has the Snapdragon 625 and its one of good mid rangers on the market!

Need your opinions on what the problem could be.

Also if anyone here has the Huawei Honor 5X, how has your experience been with this absolute shit excuse for a phone?

I have miax with 652 and it flies .. try some other AOSP rom as 615 isnt that bad

Depends on the guy who developed Lineage for that phone. Is it an official build from the LOS team or a community build?

Secondly, I don't see why a phone with an SD616 and 3GB of RAM should have stuttering issues and such ridiculous lag.

Lastly, try clean flashing the latest Lineage build (20170830) for the Honor 5X. Boot into TWRP, wipe system, data and cache and then flash the ROM and Gapps. Set it up and reduce animation speed to 0.5 or lower and reboot your phone after.

Btw, you don't happen to have any of those memory booster or battery saver apps do you? All of them are complete and utter trash and do more harm than good, so if you're using them, delete them and clean flash your ROM. Same goes for shit like ES File explorer which has built-in bloatware included with the app.

Yup! Official LineageOS from their official website.

I just flashed ViperOS and am very surprised on how smooth it is. I mean its not flagship device smooth but coming from the crap I was used to this feels like I'm using the S8.
This is surprising because ViperOS is built on top of Lineage so I still don't know what the problem was pehle.

Just hope this stays aisay warna will have to look for other AOSP ROMs.

Kernel. Some Devs put a lot of work into custom kernels for their ROMs and believe me, they make all the difference

LineageOS usually has good performance but clearly there are a few exceptions.

Huwei phones are pretty good for their price, although cheaper options are always there.. i had a 5x too.. was rooted ad during update OTA, it got boot loop since OTA doesnot work on rooted devices. no resets possible, no firmware could be loaded as it was stuck in the chinese menu for the power on button time.. fortunately it was under warranty in its last week, so huawei people happily set the device up again, and its been working smooth AF since then.

Moral of story..: Get its FW reset from official huawei people. sometimes paying more to the right people for a small job is actually worth it.
