Is this the greatest bargain in the history of smartphones?

If you think the nexus 5 is the greatest bargain then just look at the moto G

4.5" 720p LCD
Quad core S400 chipset(adreno 305 GPU)
1GB Ram
16GB storage
2070 mah battery
5MP camera(probably going to be very mediocre but its okay)

What do you think is the price? $200 unlocked and this phone is going to be sold worldwide its not just a US phone like many other moto phones.

Pretty much every phone below the nexus 5 becomes redundant once this thing comes at that price. There is also an 8GB version for $180 but I think its just stupid to buy that at that price since there is no SD card slot.

:fp2: Why don't these manufacturers never include a SD Card slot.

Baaqi i think thats A LOT of value for the price. I think they are trying to capture low price markets like in Pakistan. And if we analyze the situation of Pakistan, every other company (including china maal) is starting (and expanding) its business here.

Imagine if this thing was using MotoMaker, people would've gone crazy for it.

Eh a service like moto maker cannot be operated in a country like Pakistan anyways as that would cost a lot of money to set up their shops all around the world. However you seemed to miss one part,

"Motorola isn't offering a Moto Maker customization service for the Moto G, but the back plate is removable, letting customers swap it for different colors and styles. Motorola is selling blue, teal, red, yellow, purple, white, and black covers, as well as rugged versions and flip-style portfolio covers for the Moto G (the company says there are 19 options in total)."

Yeah i read the article.

I don't think they are manufacturing it in USA either because that'd be too costly anyway. For some reason, i sense the build quality to be on par with the cheap-ass china phones we already have here, but i hope with the exception of display.

Lets see when we get a hands-on for it. It'll be interesting to see how this performs, looks and feels like. For some reason, 1GB RAM seems like a deal breaker but then the price ......

I sense you are being inherently negative about this phone for whatever reason. Why do you suppose the build quality will be crap just because the phone is cheap? Maybe you really do need to read that article I linked.

"We've spent a little bit of time with an early version of the Moto G, and it's striking just how similar it is to the Moto X when you handle it. Without comparing the two directly, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between them. The build quality and construction of the G are quite impressive, and certainly better than any other phone in this price range."

1 GB ram is not a deal breaker because everything will depend on how much free memory the phone will have out of the box. And given that Motorola's skin consists of almost no bloatware now I'll imagine it would be plenty. For example 1 GB ram is not enough for a phone like the S3 or one X because of how much ram they eat out of the box. But something like the Sony Xperia P feels completely adequate with 1 GB ram in my personal experience. And if someone like me gets this phone I'll tinker the hell out of it and make sure I get the most out of the ram.

No i am not :S I am not very optimistic though, and mostly my fears for smartphones are coming out to be quite true these days for quite a lot of them. (I am not at the liberty to mention them here)

No where did i imply THAT :S All of a sudden you have become completely oblivious of who you are talking to. (I am referring to my views i have mentioned in past)

Like i mentioned before, i am not very optimistic and i don't want my worst nightmares to come out to be true.

I didn't question the "Design" though because i have held a MotoX in my hand and ITS FANTASTIC. The curved back, round edges, weight and reasonable size clearly speaks out loud the money Motorola has wasted in R&D while designing this phone. The feel of the phone is so natural in our hand that I could use that phone all day glued to my ear on a call and not get tired.

Given the price tag, we shouldn't even bring any complaint forward.

But yes you make a valid point. Its always better to have more memory out of the box though, and where Android is heading, 1GB (w/ skinless UI or otherwise) is just not enough for multitasking.

I also hope they release the Kit Kat for it soon because i really wish to use the extra optimizations Google has put in 4.4 (for low end devices), as well as ART (Android Run Time) to increase the efficiency of tasks.

According to the verge the build quality is very good. I just found it strange you would even think that this phone will have a china phone like build quality.

Its already gone on sale in the UK for 160 pounds. For comparison the nexus 5 is 300 pounds so this is really turning out to be a sick deal.

This is an excellent deal in my opinion. All those people looking for a sub-30k phone from a non-Chinese manufacturer, this is it.

Let's hope the screen and build quality are good.

Thinker! I am not sure if you are serious or just being sarcastic by directing me towards The Verge. I hardly consider their words to be of any worth and reviews to be meh. So lets just leave it at that.

Lets talk about Jan (or Q1) 2014 thing. So far its only available in limited countries and Motorola will expand the network to 30 more countries by next year. If they really want to capture their target market, they'll have to do it NOW (and not do the mistake black berry did with their first contender). If "we" (or the indians) get this by next year then i don't really see any real benefit of this as a Nexus 4 (used or new) will probably cover up the path created by this price point.
ASKnASK! Excellent deal indeed. I am actually more interested to see how are they cutting costs for such a phone.

We don't have any official distributor for Motorola mobiles in Pakistan. So i think it will take time to reached here officially.

They have done some Abuses will lead to banpan and making it useless even its cheap
1.No sd slot
2.1 gb ram

Apps are using more ram due to updated hardware and 1 gb is far less.

Yar maina review nai diya verge ka just that they had a hands-on with it and thought the build quality is great which is enough for me to know kai china phone sai to behtar build hi hoga.

A used nexus 4 is just that a used phone and its not going to be available brand new once the stock runs out since Google is not making it anymore. The moto G should still remain a killer deal starting next year. If this phone comes in Pakistan under 25k then its an unbeatable deal.

The lack of an SD Card slot is the only turn-off here. But then again, Motorola did it on purpose in order to leave something to be desired in their upcoming smartphones.

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.
