Aoa, I need some hardware advice. I've been looking for a mid range graphic card for my PC.

My Motherboard is an Intel Bad Axe II (D975XBX2) 775 Chipset.

The problem is it supports PCIE 1.0, Newer cards are PCIE 2.0. Now 'theoretically' PCIE 2.0 is backwards compatible with PCIE 1.0 / 1.1 however there have been severe issues with PCIE 2.1 ATI 4XXX series and 5XXX series cards where they simply do not boot past the BIOS screen.

My question is has anyone tested a PCIE 2.0 card (NVedia OR ATI) that works in a PCIE 1.0 slot?

If so could you recommend one for me please? Thank you.

PS; I'm not concerned about the bottleneck on the PCIE 1.0 (Not that it'll be saturated anyways)

PC SPECS:

Intel Core 2 Duo E4600: 2.4 GHZ (I might upgrade it to a E7500 2.93 GHZ)
350 Watt PSU (ASUS \w Casing ASUS VENTO A6) Asus TA-668 - Specs & Reviews [I will upgrade it to a corsair 550Watt if needed]
Bad AXE II (D975XBX2) Motherboard Support for the Intel® Desktop Board D975XBX2
Current GPU : Nvedia 8600 GT 1GB.
Memory: 1GB Kingston 667 [ Upgrading it to 8GB Crosair Xms2 Dominator As soon as i get my 64 Bit Processor ]

BUDGET:

7~8k - ish.

{NOT LOOKING FOR A 2nd HAND CARD THOUGH} I do want to buy a new one.

Thank you :)

Its Useless To Use These Cards On Old Machines....Its WIse To Upgrade Your Machine 1st....!! Else There's Always A Bottleneck...!! It Is Advisable Not To Get Power Hungry PCI-E Cards.......They Should Work With PCI-E But Its Better If You Check It.....!! If Its Supported ....There's No Reason It Won't Work....!! There Are So Many Cards Available Which Are Actually Quiet Effecient

HD 5570 Requires Around 45W And Comes In Your Budget...!! Try Getting Cards In This Range And You Will Be Good To Go....!! It Beats 8600Gt By Quiet Good Margin

Getting Cards Around 70W Might Risk Your PCI-E Slot ....!!

I have used EVGA GTX460 SC on PCI-e 1.0 slot without issues.

The power delivery of PCI-e slots is as follows:

PCI-e 1.0/1.1/2.0 = ~75W
PCI-e 3.0 = ~300W

So if you use a graphics card which can consume more then 75W of power then make sure that you have a good PSU to fulfill the power requirements.

Thank you for your suggestions I'll look into Nvedia cards.
ATI 5xxx Series is notorious for compatibility issues with PCIE 1.0 slots won't be going for that.
7750 HD might be an option though since the board provides crossfire.

EDIT:

Has anyone Tested "7750" in a PCIE? If so i might just go for this card. It seems to provide the best bang for the buck

In Your Budget....!! Mostly Cards W/o 6 Pin Connectors Comes...Increase It And Go For 7750...! legend uses 460 On PCI 1.1 With Power Support So There Should Be No Problem Unless You Use Cards Having No 6 PIn COnnector....!!

i have tried a 2.0 card on a 1.0 Mobo , the results were horrible. It worked fine but the bandwidth could not be used properly and yes frames did not increase the way they should have.
i would recommend to get a 2.0 mobo to run a 2.0 card .. would give u better results

That's Required That Your Card Have 6 Pin Connector.....!!! Its Safe To Upgrade PSU.....!!! Spend On Something Better Like Corsair PSU Or Xigmatec PSU...!!

Talking About Cards Which Are Around 65W-70W And Got No 6 Pin Connector ....They Take All The Power from PCI-E Slot Which Is Dangerous In your Case....!!

Get A Card With 6 Pin Power Connector Like HD7750...!

My initial post does mention that i am not concerned with a bottleneck atm :) the card will be recycled when i upgrade my system anyways.
My main concern was weather it is safe to use it or not. Secondly with all the conflicting statements on different forums over the internet, i just wanted to be sure, My questions have been answered.

Ps; Thank you for the additional Input.

i believe your current psu of 350w should have 20+ amps on +12V rail so you can upgrade to hd 4670/4770/5670/6670 gpu from ati side, from nvidia it will be 9600gt/gt 240/440/630 gpus should work on your current system and they will provide you huge performance boost over 8600 gt 1 gb (ddr2 i presume)...
Some of these gpus requires an 6 pin power connector so if its not available in your current power supply then you have to buy separately just make sure you have two molex connectors available
