I have recently completed my bachelors in software engineering, I was thinking of doing MS, so applied in couple of universities.

now I have been selected in the MS CS of FAST university, but I also have secured a job as Android and iOS developer, the job is not that great but it is good for a freshie. Now the thing is that the job timing is going to clash with the university studies so I think It is not possible to do both. I just have to choose one from them.

Can any one with experience can advise for what to choose, is it better to do 2 year of MS than lets say 2 years of job experience?

Looking forward for the replies...thanks in advance

I'd say job experience of a year or two then MS (or find a schedule that doesn't clash with your job).

Anyways, these guys can guide you better Shyber mhaqs

That! ^

Then you can go for Executive MBA as well.

However, ONCE you get busy with job, its really not that easy to just come back to studying routine.

Granted a masters degree will help you more in life, you have two options here

DO masters right now

Get 2 years of experience then get masters.

I asked my brother once the same thing and he said one should do job for just a little while! That way when you graduate with MS, and you start looking for a job, you will have something on your CV to show others. Companies prefer people with experience so they don't have to give training and just get started ASAP. I have just started my uni though :p but I have heard all this stuff from several people with experience. One year in the industry before doing MS seems good IMO.

All my colleagues who finished their Bachelors had two categories:

- Those who knew they didn't want any further studies for whatever reason (family survival, a good job offer, low GPA etc etc.)
- Those who applied for a Masters degree while doing their internships/final projects. (good GPA, publications, teaching experience etc etc.)

End result:

- Those that started a job after bachelors mostly never returned to studies.
- Those that went on with a masters degree, went on to do PhD in local and foreign universities.

I agree with what others said on this thread. I realized early that formal course-ware cannot help me beyond a certain extent in what I want to do and that was to develop video games. I never considered Masters at any point of my life. I learned most of what I know now through personal education.

But, it's definitely a decision that you have to take yourself. If you have a knack for research and education with a good GPA, I'd suggest you go for Masters and PhD. But if you want to get into the field, a job experience will take you miles ahead of what's offered in formal course-ware (save cutting edge research).

Would recommend study over job as once you get into money making business then its hard to concentrate and coming back to study and once you start earning you put responsibilities shoes on it becomes hard to leave the job and start studying back so i would recommend finishing up studies first then approach for the Job

Also I forgot to mention that I Can do Masters along with the job from university which offers it in part time, I just wont be able to do the MS from FAST university.
And I also think that once a person gets in to a job, it would get really hard to get back to regular studies.

PhD!! wow....... thats a good perspective of the things, I want to be a developer whether Masters or not........ I think with research a person has more opportunities in Teaching career (I might be wrong here)....

But in the end it is like that, to do regular MS with FAST university without doing a job or to do part time MS with job.......I was just thinking is FAST university's MS worth to leave the job? or should I opt for other options

Both for successfull life. I would say. It worths it. Trust me. It will be difficult to manage.
yep you are right.....thanks

thats a good point as well. but there is also a thing on how to know when to stop professional studies? I mean after Masters it may become JOB or PhD.

Thanks for the advice..... I think it did cleared up some aspects though.......

My cousin did job for 2 years after completing bcs. Then he took admission in masters.
According to him. If one wants to go into teaching field then ms/PhD is good but if not then there's no use of ms. He Has 2 years experience but after completing ms he ll have to start from the stratch.
Pst. So either you do ms now or get a job and never think of ms again. And third option is that you settle up the timings.

People are always skeptical when I tell them that I'm inclined more towards MBA rather than MS after doing my BSc. Since I want to go in management side, isn't it more juicier in a CV than a person with MS? Or diverging yourself is a mistake?

And I've hardly seen an engnr with a salary of 6 figures while I've seen more MBAs with that

Go on with what interests you. I was also advised to go for some engineering, followed by an MBA as that opens up gateways to higher posts.
I've seen many people doing/suggesting MBA after BS Eco/Engineering etc.

Btw MBAs at all top ranked universities abroad require prior work experience of 2-5 years atleast, and now LUMS and IBA also require 2 years experience I think.
