AOA...anybody know how is Asus xonar DG sound card? i have rx700 JVC...
is this sound card better than xifi titanium?
yes it is better if you are gonna use headphone and that too for movies and music... it has a built in amp... not as powerful as that of the xonar essence st but would do good enough with normal headphones... far better for music listening than creative headphones... although for gaming you might want to go with creative as that has better positional audio for games(unless you have great headphone, it won't matter how good the sound card is)... and you won't find it in pakistan.... there is nothing in pakistan... get it imported... it is not expensive at all.... although i might suggest you get the fiio e17 dac/amp... great quality and can be used a great portable amp as well...

Now,

I recently watched "Iron Sky". Nice lil production, whacky nazis from moon. meh.

What got me was the amazing sound quality of the soundtrack at the end over the credits playing. Its "Under the Iron sky" by Laibach. Listened to the whole song in the film, which was your standard 720p ~6gb version on 5.1 speaker settings.

Went to youtube to get its audio file and even the '1080p' file which I got was subpar interms of quality... and not just tad inferior but hella lot coz Im not an expert audiophile but the sound quality was damn noticeable!!

So, I wanted to know whats the format for getting HD audio files of songs etc?? like in movies we can switch b/w 5.1 etc but in audio files we cant....

Suggestions??
if you want to hear quality music then never ever watch videos etc... unless it is dts audio.... download the sound track in .flac or .ape format... i am also intrigued with this soundtrack so i am gonna find it in high quality for you... also never download anything with less than 320kbps bitrate... lower than that is just not good enough(i remember the good old days of 128kbps)

yar you wont believe how much of a difference there is... theres the tinkling opening piano keys, escalating, then the cymbals/drums before the singers voice rises... damn amazing!

recently got Springsteens 'Born in USA' in FLAC quality almost 30-50mb files each but dunno couldnt hear any VAST difference between that and good quality mp3s I got... it certainly was better but not mindblowing...

btw any way we can cut parts from these .mkv files? I've been cutting off from .avi files for years (vDub software) but so far havent found any for mkv.

well i tried cutting a video a few days ago with a certain underage actress(not proud of pervert nature but what can i do:p)... don't have much experience in it...

you won't find much difference in audio of a good quality mp3 or a flac file... there will be a few imporvement but it won't be super dramatic... the reason you found it to be so much in the case of youtube and the movie is because youtube sux for music purposes... you will notice that the bass in the audio file would be always better than what you heard on youtube... youtube sux for music purposes... download from the link i gave and try out the quality in that... should be better than both the movie you have and the video you watched on youtube...

fiio e17 hands down... it is a very hot product world wide right now... you do not get high fidelity stuff this cheap normally... grab it if you can... the dac will be awesome on it... don't know about the amp but it would be powerful enough... you can also use it as a portable amplifier with your phone etc... xonar DG is like 26$ on amazon... dirt cheap really... fiio e17 is about 130 $... so you can understand why e17 would be a lot better in every way...

Earphones @ a budget of 10k

As the title says, I'm looking for earphones with in the price range of Rs.10,000. Slightly adjustable. For use with my phone, or mp3 player, just for listening to music. I don't mind bass head iems.

As of right now I'm deciding between:
- Klipsch image s4
- Monster turbine

These two are predominantly bassy iems, and very close competitors. But say, i chose some non bassy iems, i dont know what to look for. May I get any other recommendations?

Your main music genres? And where can you get your headphones from?

I can listen to pretty much anything. I will listen to acoustic Indie music like Mumford and sons etc, a little bit of blues to metal, and even bass heavy stuff, but mostly dubstep out of the bass heavy stuff. I can go for something that has either a balanced trade off b/w lows, mids and highs, or I can go for bass heavy iems. And I'm going to get them from the UK.

I would recommend the Shure SE215 or the HiSoundAudio Crystal if you want something bassy, the VSonic GR06 if you're looking for something more balanced.

The best thing to do would be to try out different headphones before you get them, that way you can decide what you like better.

Well, trying them out would not really be possible. I apologize. I assume you must've misunderstood me. I'm not going to the UK myself, rather I'm getting them given to me from the UK by a relative.

I'm not very keen on the latter two you've mentioned, but I am aware that the shure se215 also are available for me to chose, but I've heard that their design doesn't tend to fit everyone, and that people who wear glasses won't find it too comfortable. So I'm a little reluctant on that. Although, i've never had problems with any earphones I've owned before. And I find the detachable wires-thingi on the earpieces interesting because that's the place where I usually ended up snapping my earphones, including my Sennheiser cx-300 ii...

Well, yea, the Shures do have an unusual fit. But you can't really say for sure if you'll find them uncomfortable until you try them. And don't worry about the GR06. VSonic is on fire nowadays. They make some of the best budget headphones.
