Tell him to open the box so it looks used and if asked what's its for by customs tell them its for personal use, you shouldn't have any problems otherwise and you will be free to enjoy your GPU

Hey MadDemon. Since it's just one gpu, your relative shouldn't have any issues with customs, since they're personally bringing it along and not shipping it. Taxes in the US apply based on the state the purchase was made in.

Unpack it.
Your warranty will be useless anyway so you don't need the box. Drop the box away and bring it along in the anti static bag to make space management easier.

Apart from that, they just gotta bring it along like any other item.
They don't really ask questions. Even if they do let them know its for your own use and stuff.

Non on personal carry.
You only get taxed if the item is brought in via shipping.

According to google, the sales tax for Chicago is 10.25%. Based on this, it would bring the price of a $400 product up to $441. Though, your relative would have more accurate info in this regard.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
