A user called daxlax at GTAForums has posted a mini-summary of a new (6-page) review by PC Gamer UK:

  • Keyboard and Mouse feels effortless to drive with, there seems no issues with this combo in general (mouse obviously being brilliant to aim with).
  • Wall hugging bugs from console has made it to PC - When up against certain walls or cars you still sometimes can’t always peak around to shoot which causes some frustration to the player.
  • Bizarre decision has been made regarding multiplayer - You need to log into Rockstar’s Social club AND Windows Live to be be able to log into the game online.
  • Game looks amazing with a Dual Core and a 8800 card. It did have some major framerate wobbles, “nothing fatal though” insists the reviewer.
  • The game scored 92% and also got the “MUST BUY” badge.
I’ll try picking up this magazine over the weekend and confirming much of this information by within it
Also expect more reviews from magazines and websites within the next 7-10 days

GTA IV for PC has 32-player multi

News by Oli Welsh Today 08:32 One final, and quite tasty, morsel of information about the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV ahead of its release next week: there's multiplayer support for up to 32 players. That's a twofold increase on the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, which were capped at 16 players in all modes. The news comes via some brief hands-on impressions over at IGN. The site notes that the increased player cap will only apply to some of the game's competitive and co-operative modes. IGN witnessed 32-player team deathmatch and race matches first-hand, and heard that the unstructured free mode would also work with 32 players - but that 'Cops'n'Crooks' is still limited to 16 players. The PC version also adds a video editor, as we revealed in our own hands-on preview. Grand Theft Auto IV for PC is released next Wednesday, 3rd December, in Europe. Check out the GTA IV PC gamepage for more info, and look out for our review very soon indeed. Although this should give you some idea what to expect.

GTA 4 PC DRM: Copy protection and activation in detail

Rockstar utilizes onetime activation and Securom
GTA 4 PC DRM: Copy protection and activation in detail

Author: Thilo Bayer (Nov 28, 2008) - GTA 4 will be released for the PC on December 3 and the question about the copy protection arises. PCGH reveals what copy protection and what kind of activation are used in GTA 4 (PC).

GTA 4 (PC): Relaxed DRM compared to other games on the market.

It has already been reported that GTA 4 PC would possibly require an online activation. Those rumors have been confirmed now. But Rockstar uses, in contrast to Electronic Arts' DRM system (Spore, C&C Red Alert 3) or Ascaron (Sacred 2), a less rigid solution. Here the summary of the GTA 4 DRM system:

DRM system GTA 4 (PC):
- Activation via Internet (1x per system, no limits, Fallback for systems without web access)
- Copy protection Securom: The original disc is required for playing (Exept: Download version of GTA 4, for example from Direct 2 Drive)
- Requirements for playing (singleplayer): original disc, Securom and GFW Live runs in the background
- Requirements for playing (multiplayer): Active internet connection, Games for Windows Live account, For uploading videos: Rockstar Social Club Account

Additional details about the activation of GTA 4 (PC):
- If you don't have web access or don't want to connect your gaming PC to the Internet, Rockstar wants to offer a not yet specified system to activate GTA 4 via another PC with web access. Details are supposed to be available on launch.
- For the normal GTA 4 (PC) version with disc installation, activations are unlimited. But the original disc is required for playing.
- This does not apply for legally downloaded versions of GTA 4: Depending on the vendor the following is possible: Five parallel installations with the possibility to revive a "free” installation, if an old installation is deleted. For this purpose the customer has to have web access with the PC GTA 4 is installed on.
- Those playing GTA 4 with an illegally hacked version have, according to Rockstar, to fear that the game will not be fully playable.
- If you change two major components of your PC (like the graphics card or the CPU), you will possible have to reactivate GTA 4.

On page two you can find the full Rockstar Q&A, if you have any further questions. Our opinion: The unlimited number of installations for the normal retail version is a step on the right track.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
