Geo/Jang/The News is now banned in all army units ! It is being taken out from cables also. All patriots must do the same.

Lets follow the army. Ban Geo and all Jang group newspapers in your homes and offices. Stop taking The News/Jang and show that we are united against enemies. All those Pakistanis who only want news, switch to any other paper. Ban and Block Geo and their newspapers in your homes and offices. Do what the army is doing!

If you work in companies which give adds to Geo/Jang, tell your management to stop giving adds to geo, else we will boycott their products too. When a private NGO (Geo) has been declared a national security threat, then we as a nation must stand with the army and not the Jews. call your cable walas and tell him to remove geo channels else we will take legal action against them also. I don't think Geo should be shutdown...what I do think should be done is that it should be sued for spreading misinformation without backing it up. Sue it really hard, make them pay for their mistake, same goes for the rest of the channels.

Perosnally, a news channel where breaking news is repeated endlessly with every sentence for TEN MINUTES at least, should be sued for even using the phrase "Aur huma ap ko phr btatey chalien".

Geo's not the root cause. You cut it off and you'll end up spawning something wilder in its place.

On that note, there's no single switch to flick and instantly fix all the country's problems. Corruption is a virus that's in EVERY department and institution of the country and most of the debates are about which one's more infected.

The responses in this thread are the perfect example of what's wrong with this country. I fail to understand why its all or nothing with us.

Is Geo in the wrong about this? Absolutely. News channels are not supposed to accuse individuals let alone the country's premier institution (s) without a shred of proof. For this they must be put to task. PEMRA rules should be applied to the fullest and the law should take its course leading to a fine, ban or whatever.

Having said that lets take a step back and analyze the situation. In my opinion the best course of action here would've been to punish GEO for what they did using PEMRA rules and the agency concerned should have investigated the attack on Hamid Mir (which did happen by the way, people seem to have forgotten that) swiftly to expose the real culprits. After all they are the "world's best". Once it was established who the responsible were, GEO's credibility would have shattered. Proper legal proceedings against GEO would have been possible backed by solid evidence.

But did that happen? NO. Instead the narrative is being shaped that they are the devil and we are angels who can do no wrong. The stage is being set to ensure no one dares speak up ever again. What GEO did is deplorable. But what is even more alarming is the fact that under this incident's guise we are being told that they are beyond criticism and anyone who dares to speak up can't be anything other than a traitor.

I am not saying that these institutions should not be respected. On the contrary, I have enormous respect and a deeply personal association with those who are tasked with the nation's defense. I just feel their role needs to be regulated through proper legislation as is the norm in most countries.

Ask yourself this. Have they succeeded at their primary task? We have been hearing for years that foreign organizations are responsible for the terrorism in Pakistan. What has been done to counteract that? I think its safe to say the results speak for themselves. Are we saying citizens don't even have the right to question if they stray from their mandated role? When will we realize that this "playing God" mentality is what has lead us to this mess where the whole country is in tatters.

I know some of you will question my patriotism and what not because that is how it goes around here. Whenever someone tries to swim against the current, they are either labelled as against the country or against Islam. Apparently the only thing we are best at is branding. However I am as patriotic as anybody else if not more. I just feel our salvation lies in accepting that nothing is perfect, neither individuals nor institutions, the agencies aren't the only patriotic one's around and some of their past decisions and conduct is partly the reason for the country's current condition.

As for the Hamid Mir issue, only a proper investigation can establish the facts which sadly never happens here. I can't think of one major incident whose investigation reached its logical conclusion. Maybe therein lies our problem. We live in a world of emotional opinions and assumptions, Not facts.

I have boycotted Geo tv myself based on their past misdemeanors. But using this recent incident as an excuse to shut them down is not on.

This is a classic case of Military high-handedness. They can't bear criticism of any sort as was evident during the previous coup and its subsequent fallout. The order to ban Geo network may have come from the Information Ministry (aka Khawaja Asif) but everyone knows Military might is forcing the civilian govt.'s hand.

I'm not a conspiracy freak man. It's so easy to dismiss any harsh reality as a conspiracy these days. While there are certain details regarding the two events that might make people suspicious, but there has been plenty of proof and they have survived plenty of scrutiny.

I'm not a conspiracy freak man. It's so easy to dismiss any harsh reality as a conspiracy these days. While there are certain details regarding the two events that might make people suspicious, but there has been plenty of proof and they have survived plenty of scrutiny.

If u think of me as a conspiracy freak then u should know that in these freak nat geo is one of them . Coz i don't like to aay anything without a strong source . Also just search abt the helo they used to transport Obl to arabian sea , it has an operational time of two hours, from abt compound to arbian sea via their indicated route is abt 10 hrs means they stopped and refuelled five times.

Not on this issue, but ultimately yes, along with some other channels as well. Every channel that thinks that news about some indian actress that almost fell on the ground is a breaking news and should be shown with a bright red ticker deserves a life time ban, including reporters that think that the first question to a father that just lost his son is "How are you feeling right now?" should be permanently banned from this field.
