I don't see why Fortnite should be on the list, apart from the fact that it is popular. I'm still glad that CoD and BF games are not nominated for GOTY (although BF is much better).

Seriously man i couldn't agree more. It is beyond me how almost the same recycled shit tops NPD charts every fucking year. BF used to be great but i feel lately it's desperately trying to be another COD.

Metro Game Central's GoTY is God of War

Our top two choices for the year do have something in common: they’re part of franchises that we previously had no real affection for, despite acknowledging their quality. The teenage angst and violence of Kratos was not something we were looking forward to seeing continue on the PlayStation 4 but this is not only the best game of the year but the most surprising. Although it has roughly the same mix of action and puzzle-solving almost everything else about the original games is turned upside down, with a completely new setting, new combat system, and an entirely more adult approach to storytelling.

I'll never understand the love this game gets. It's supposed to be some sort of a transformative experience that sends you to another universe, but I could never see it as anything more than a visually captivating rendition of an age old classic.

Playing it in VR does enhance the experience considerably, but it also serves as a distraction. It's hard to focus on piecing together incoming blocks when there's so much going on in your surrounding. I suppose that's kind of the point but eh.

I know its not right to give opinions on a game one has never played but no matter what this game does, its still fucking TETRIS. In a year that had games like GOW & RDR, who in their right mind would give this a GOTY.

Never cared much for Giant Bombs opinion. This pick reassures that they should continue to be ignored.

Even former Gametrailers gang picking Hearthstone as GoTY makes more sense than this.
