I use windows 7. I have a 1.5 Tb external HDD. It has about 400 Gb of data. I gave it to my friend because he wanted some movies n etc. When i got it back, i scanned it and found 3 trojans and 3 malwares. I moved them to my chest with my Avast. When i open my HDD. I see one setup of microsoft security essentials and nothing else. I have "show hidden files and folders" ticked in my folder options. In my computer my drive shows 0.99 Tb free of 1.36 Tb. I can access my files and folders through "run" but am not able to view them directly through F:\ .

1. Kick your friend's ass.
2. install teamviewer
3. pm the id and password to me
4. watch me solve the problem
5. profit?

Goto folder options and there uncheck the " Hide protected system files (Recommended) " line. Then chk if your files come back or not.

Well it also happened to one of my friends, all his USB content became invisible. I think it's the work of that trojan that came from your friends PC.

The files and folders are read-only...
i am unable to make them readable plus they refuse to become non hidden :\ they are hidden. i am unable to uncheck the hidden.

Strange I was able to un-hide the files in my friends USB. Well there is a possibility that your computer is also now infected and the only solution that I can think of is connect your hard disk to another PC and have it scanned properly and also with the other PC try to un-hide the files. I think that will work.

As I told above that my friend had a trojan and he took the usb to me, I was able to easily un-hide the files and I think same is the case with your hard disk. you will have to connect it to another system in order to remove the 'read-only'. I cannot think of any other solution :(

You see that is the problem here actually. It doesn't allow you to Unhide & Uncheck the Read option. And trust me, you can't fix it unless you create a New Folder, move those files from the folder you can't change its attributes of to the newly created folder ... and thats it. And for 400GB of data, it'll be Actual pain in the ass so Good Luck for that :p

Do Note that ONLY Folders will be hidden, while files are still at their original condition. Well if they are not, then when you'll move them to new folder (you can always change the new folder, make it look like the older one never got deleted :p), it'll make the attributes change automatically (of files).
