[h=1]Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two revealed[/h]It's a multi-platform musical, improved camera promised.

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is currently in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii, producer Warren Spector has announced.

Speaking in an Associated Press interview, Spector revealed that, unlike the 2010 original, the game will be a musical with full voice acting for all characters.
"I'm such a geek about musicals," he said.
"I love the co-op and next-gen stuff, but for me, when a character breaks into song, which they do on a regular basis in this game, it's magic."
You can also expect drop-in, drop-out co-op, with one player controlling Mickey and his paintbrush, and the other playing as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who wields a remote control with which he can manipulate electricity.

"You can sit down at any time with a friend who is playing as Mickey, and you can take control of Oswald," explained Spector.

"If you're playing as a single player, Oswald will be there every second of the game. He's not just a multiplayer character. He's a helper, whether you're playing alone or with a friend or family member."

The other key focus for Spector and his team at developer Junction Point is the game's camera - much criticized in the original. He promised a much more user-friendly experience this time around.

"We've had a team working on the camera from literally the day we finished the first game. They'll be working on it until the day we ship the second game," he said.

"(There have been) over 1000 specific changes made to the camera. Our goal is that you will not have to touch the manual camera controls even once to play through the main story path of this game."
Spector didn't reveal much detail about the sequel's plot other than that it will see Mickey return to Wasteland. Similarly, no word on a release date or on the 3DS version rumored earlier this week.

Its Wii-only predecessor picked up a middling 6/10 back in November 2010.
"For all its big ideas, Disney Epic Mickey never quite weaves its disparate strands into a convincing whole. Its conceptual ambition is let down by merely adequate mechanics, and Mickey himself remains a rather abstract figure at the centre of it all," read Eurogamer's Epic Mickey review.

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two Also Headed to PC / Mac

The number of platforms for Disney's Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two has grown by two.

Already known to be a PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii title, the sequel to Epic Mickey is also PC and Mac bound, as reported by Game Informer, which cites confirmation from the game's publisher, Disney Interactive Studios.

In a separate report, Eurogamer has the game's roster of developers swelling to, "around 800 people," if you include the work being done on 'Power of Illusion', the 3DS ~ version.

From the Euro-story:
Junction Point boss Warren Spector declined to offer any detail on the PC, Mac or 3DS versions when quizzed by Eurogamer at a preview event in London this morning, but he did say around 800 people were working on the project in a new "virtual team" approach.
"It's pretty crazy," he admitted. "There's a lot of work that goes into it. There are a couple of ways you can approach it. You can either build a studio that has 700 people, which I desperately don't want to do, and didn't and don't and won't, okay? Or you can find partners around the world.
"We've taken a very interesting development approach. My studio director Paul Weaver came up with a way of building a virtual team all around the world. So we have people working in Leamington in the UK, in Bulgaria, China, Canada, California, Utah. We have an enormous virtual team.

No North American release date is available just yet, though a European release date reportedly surfaced yesterday: September 26.

Epic Mickey 2 Is 'Just Like Deus Ex', According to Warren Spector

Sadly, Mickey will not be joining UNATCO and fighting the Illuminati. But where it counts, in game mechanics, Warren Spector views them as the same game.

Speaking to Ars Technica, Spector breaks down the game's choice system, and why he sees the Disney game as similar to his beloved first-person shooters:

"… it's just like Deus Ex. You apply a little logic, and after a while you sort of learn the rules of the world and the game."

Spector then shows that a classic platforming puzzle, getting some platforms moving, can be solved in several ways, including skipping the puzzle altogether and just jumping on the stationary platforms. The key is that the game never stalls because you can't figure out how to get past a guard or dodge an obstacle; if one method doesn't work, you simply try another until you find something that clicks.

Spector notes that each choice in the game stacks, and has an effect on both the environment and on the NPCs Mickey and Oswald meet during the course of their journey. Each choice you make will affect the game at several levels, making each playthrough unique and changing later levels as well.

As for those musical numbers he mentioned, apparently they'll be limited to cutscenes, so if you were terrified of music in a game, for some reason, you can rest easy.
At least until Epic Mickey 3.
