I'm sure it would have won if there were any gamer choice awards...but wait, gamers responded to the trailer with a barrage of homophobia.

Anyway, I was afraid that Cyberpunk will start a bad trend here and critics will jump the bandwagon and that's exactly what happened. Professional critics are supposed to connect games with gamers rather than creating and promoting a complete disconnect and give judgments on private game demos in isolation. Now developers can cash in on the extra hype by showing their games privately to critics and have them sing its praises (applies to good games of course) while keeping gamers in dark except giving them a trailer as a lollipop. Mind you I'm talking about this practice, not about whether the game in question is good or not. I don't mind if developers do that but I think it's not something that critics should promote by dishing out (best of the show) awards, which should be restricted to gameplay demos gamers are aware of. I mean, that's the whole freaking point of E3: to showcase games to the public.

After years of speculation, we've finally got our first proper look at Cyberpunk 2077. And it somehow surpassed our wildest expectations.

This is an unusually tough Game of the Show to justify because the extent of what you've personally seen is limited to what's in that trailer three paragraphs up. Cyberpunk 2077's E3 demo was strictly limited to industry/business folks, press, and influencers. So you'll just have to trust us for now when we say that it was extremely impressive. Cyberpunk 2077 had everyone buzzing for a very good reason.

It may only be shown in playable form behind closed doors, but the total 50 minute demonstration of Cyberpunk 2077 as CD Project RED showed up during the show left the audience with jaw railing down the ankles.

It may well be a very long time for the actual release and CD Project RED was smart enough not to touch the topic of when to expect the game, but after what we saw, it seems to be something special when one day lands.

In the past they've disqualified games like Witcher 3, God of War, Phantom Pain, Shadow of the Colussus. So Cyberpunk 2077 won't be there. Unfortunately for you, that also disqualifies the likes of The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima as well. In such a scenario, Spider-Man and maybe Resident Evil 2 have good chances of winning there. (Not sure if hands-on demo was available for Control).

That's better but I think games with public demos should be included because the audience can see how these games play even if can't play a live demo themselves. Of course, at this point we are assuming that the final game will more or less have the gameplay elements presented in the demo. [emoji14]

Another reason is that games like Spider-Man and Resident Evil 2 are not so far away from release compared to TLoU II or Ghost of Tsushima, so it may not have been possible for the latter two to offer a free and open demo at this point. Anyway, I'm happy for Resident Evil 2 I guess. [emoji14]

Well, one thing TLoU II "fanboys" have done is defend it against homophobes. If this is defensiveness and "crazy" instead of being a homophobe and dismissing a game because of that, then we have nothing to talk about. More people are talking about this than the actual game and that's because of the defensiveness of YOUR camp since we don't have a problem with it. As for the game itself, we have only seen a gameplay demo which was generally praised by critics and gamers alike. There are doubts about whether what was shown in terms of realistic AI, animations, etc., would be a part of the final game. Druckman has said that all of it is more or less the real time gameplay based on their new engine. Anything further on the legitimacy of the demo can't be said until we see more or until the game is released. If it turns out to be crafted specifically for E3, I'll join you in attacking ND.

Yes, the world doesn't revolve around ND and TLoU but I'm not sure who is giving that impression. Your camp who thinks that there's nothing of value in TLoU except that 5 sec scene (defensiveness much?) or us who are just talking about what we have seen? TLoU AI didn't live upto its E3 demo. But the animation technology shown here isn't new, or even the first time being implemented in a game. Ubisoft showcased Motion Matching animation system nearly 2 years ago.

That's okay; it doesn't have to be new. The point is that the cut scene like animations in TLoU II gameplay looked too realistic and amazing. TLoU animations in general (not the enemy AI) were good anyway and TLoU II shows a lot of improvements over that. Now the only question is whether we'll see all this in the final game given the TLoU E3 demo debacle. We wait and see.

I was suggesting that having already seen motion matching in For Honor on current-gen systems, such advancements aren't unrealistic to achieve anymore. The AI is a whole different story though.
