E3 Press Conference
It is that time of the year again when the games world starts turning its gaze to Los Angeles and the industry’s biggest trade show. E3 2017 is now just a month away, with all the hype, hardware and lovely new games that entails.It’s shaping up to be a big one. Microsoft has a shiny new console to show off in Project Scorpio, Sony will want to keep up the momentum for its best-selling PlayStation 4 while Nintendo will be aiming to build on the strong start Switch has had since its launch in March. While the third-party publishers such as EA, Bethesda and Ubisoft will be looking to make their presence felt in their own conferences and across the show.
It is also the first time the show has officially been open to the public. And the show continues to expand in terms of its timings. EA will effectively kick the week off as early as Saturday with its press briefing. With nearly a full week of scheduling, we are expecting to see plenty to excite. Here is the press conference schedule and what we hope to see.

E3 2017 is officially open from Tuesday 13 June 2017 to Thursday 15 June 2017. However, as is traditional, the week will begin with press conferences from the biggest publishers from Saturday 10 June 2017.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 will make a strong showing at EA's conference
Microsoft Xbox (Sunday June 11, 2pm PDT, 5pm EST, 3am BST)
Microsoft’s main focus will be on selling the upcoming, upgraded Xbox One, currently known as Project Scorpio. With Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry lifting the lid on the machine’s specs, it is widely expected that Microsoft will be packing its conference with games that will benefit from the machine’s 4K output and extra technological grunt. The Xbox One catalogue is lagging behind PlayStation 4 right now, and it appears Microsoft are keeping their powder dry in order for Scorpio to arrive with a bang. That’s the hope anyway. The proof will be in the lineup. Forza Motorsport 7 will almost certainly be revealed, while we are looking for significant updates on games like Sea of Thieves and Crackdown 3. Xbox will need more than that, however, and we fully expect at least one more heavy hitter to be revealed. Halo 6 incoming?

Unless it has a huge surprise up its sleeve, Sony’s E3 2017 goal is one of momentum. The Japanese giant will look to continue its fan-pleasing streak and keep the PS4 out in front of its rivals with a strong lineup of games. With both the PS4 Pro and PSVR released last year, we aren’t likely to see any hardware, so it will be a case of Sony eking the most out of their existing platforms. As part of their strategy of revealing long-term games early, they are already guaranteed to have a slew of fascinating titles. The Last of Us: Part Two, the new God of War, Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, GT Sport, Detroit: Become Human, Dreams, Days Gone and Insomniac’s Spider-Man are all games we look forward to seeing more of. That’s before we get to any new stuff. Sony will also be looking to give PSVR some love, with interest and releases for the device waning after an initially strong start.

As well as an impressive slate of games, Sony will be looking to breathe new life into its PSVR headset at E3 2017.

Nintendohas made a strong start with its new Switch console, capturing the imagination with its quirks, versatility and the excellence of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. After its early success, Nintendo will need to use E3 to build momentum for its system, banishing the spectre of a lean games line-up with a raft of announcements. What to expect? Who knows with Nintendo, a company that rarely plays by the rulebook. We will see more of Super Mario Odyssey, of course, and expect it to be fully playable on the show floor. Elsewhere, Nintendo should look to a winning combination of its own revered franchises and, perhaps even more importantly, strong support from third-party publishers. FIFA 18 is a good start and that initial wave of excitement for the machine could well have convinced other publishers to jump on board. We shall see, but a Nintendo with its mojo back is always worth keeping an eye on.

While they don’t have their own glitzy press conferences, a host of developers, manufacturers and publishers will be attending E3 and will be looking to make their presence felt.

Activision, as ever, will be one of the biggest (and loudest) showing off Destiny 2 and Call of Duty: WW2. And if recent years are anything to go by, both will feature heavily in the main press conferences.

Capcom will surely be worth looking out for, with the success of Street Fighter V and Resident Evil VII, the Japanese publisher is having a welcome renaissance. Its next fighting game, Marvel v Capcom: Infinite, will be there while we hope to see more of the Dark Souls-esque Deep Down.Konami has the divisive but potentially interesting Metal Gear Survive set to make an appearance, while we should get a good look at PES2018.Elsewhere we hope for a look at CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, Warner Bros. Middle-Earth: Shadow of War and Square Enix’s remake of Final Fantasy VII.And to address a potential elephant in the room, rumours have swirled around that Rockstar will be at Xbox’s conference to show off Red Dead Redemption 2 on Scorpio. Given Rockstar very rarely attend E3 to show off its wares, you can take this with a cowboy hat full of salt. But it would be a terrific coup for Microsoft.
