So I'm currently running my Slim 320GB on V 4.20. If an update after 4.45 comes out (e.g: 4.46/4.50) then I won't get affected right?

Time will tell. This is shit, an update will brick your console? Already heard about this for fat consoles in previous updates, but now slims and super slims too?

Oh f*ck me. I just downloaded it... :fp2:

Does the bricking happen immediately after the update or anytime after you update it? Cause I logged in to PSN and played my game for a while after I updated the FW.

Its supposed to happen immediately, after the reboot you are supposed to be stuck on the ribbon / glitter screen, if you aren't then check your bluetooth / wifi, people who weren't effected by the soft brick are reporting that the controllers are no longer syncing or wifi isn't working. Sony hasn't even as much as acknowledged the fault =| I am trying to spread this out as far as I can and so far have warned all my friends to not do it.

I am not going to risk it, I don't care if I have to wait out for 4.5x or a new 4.4x but I am not goign anywhere 45 =|

from here on, I'd advise anyone to move at your own risk. there are minor reports of <500 GB HDD being affected too.

can you tell me the make / model (fat, slim, superslim) and HDD (custom / stock hdd) as well as size? (80,120 etc)

and do check your wifi and bluetooth and report back.

Only 500gb models are reporting this issue. So its safe to assume that people with smaller HDDs are safe.

And always ALWAYS wait for a few days before updating your console to the latest firmware.

[h=1]Turn Off Trophy Notifications in PS3 FW 4.45 Update [Update: FW Pulled Due to Bricked PS3s][/h]

Update 2: Sony has rolled back to FW 4.41 in response to people reporting bricked PS3s following PS3's 4.45 update.

—–
Update: Users are reporting problems booting up the PS3 after the firmware update. It appears that for some people, the PS3 doesn't load the XMB screen after the PS3 boot screens. You can track issues on the PlayStation forum here.

Reports show that users with a large HDD (greater than 500 GB HDD) are being affected.

—–
Sony has released a new firmware update to the PlayStation 3 today. The new update pushes the version up to 4.45 and brings improved system stability. In addition, the console will now allow players to turn off trophy notifications under Settings –> System Settings –> Trophy Notifications.

So if you’re one of those people that have been annoyed by trophy notification pop ups for the past few years, you can now finally rejoice.

[h=1]PS3 FW 4.45 Fix Coming June 27[/h]

On Tuesday evening, Sony released a new firmware update for the PlayStation 3, followed by reports of PS3s being bricked due to the update. For a number of users, FW 4.45 caused problems in loading the XMB screen after booting the PS3 with the new firmware. Sony has now announced today that a fix will be released on June 27.

We have identified the issue related to the PlayStation 3 software update (version 4.45) that impacted a small number of PS3 systems earlier this week. A new PS3 system software update is planned to be released on June 27 that resolves the issue. Thank you for your patience and understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience.
If there is any further updates between now and 6/27, we will drop them here.
We will also update on 6/27 when it is available, and steps on how to implement the solution.

The firmware initially brought improved system stability and the option to turn off trophy notifications. After users were reporting bricked PS3s, Sony pulled the update and reverted back to 4.41, the previous version. Sony has not revealed what caused the problem, but there was a pattern that users with a large hard drive (over 500 GB) were being affected.

So if you're one of the affected PS3s that caught the bad update, you'll have to wait a week for the fix.
