[h=1]Geoff Johns Teases Doom Patrol for DC’s Titans TV Series[/h]

DC’s new small screen endeavor, Titans, might include Doom Patrol, a social media post by Geoff Johns suggests. Mining narrative inspiration from the Teen Titans comic books and hit animated series, the project is already taking shape with its principal cast of characters already announced, including Beast Boy, played by Ryan Potter. And fans might have just gotten a new morsel of information that will give them an inkling of what Garfield Logan’s character arc in the show will be.
The Doom Patrol – which debuted in a 1963 issue of My Greatest Adventure – has had several incarnations over the years, with members coming and going to battle unique villains such as the Brotherhood of Evil. At one point, Beast Boy was also a part of the aforementioned team. Including them in the new show makes sense with how pivotal they are to Beast Boy’s evolution into becoming a member of the Titans, giving him his first opportunity to really be a hero. And even after moving on to a new team, he still crossed paths with his old cohorts several times in the comics.

The speculation is rooted in a recent Twitter conversation between Johns and Potter. Apparently, the two recently met and talked about the inner workings of developing Titans. During their conversation, the DC exec mentioned Doom Patrol, quickly piquing the interest of fans of the team. Check out their exchange below.
My pleasure! Loved talking all things #BeastBoy!!
Green tigers, Doom Patrol and Halo. We’re going to have a blast.

#Titans
— Geoff Johns (@geoffjohns) November 9, 2017
If Titans opts to incorporate Doom Patrol the same way they played out in Beast Boy’s history on the pages of the comics, it seems like the show might be trying to establish its heroes backstory by giving fans a glimpse of their old lives before they come together and form their own superhero squad. Earlier this month, rumors of the Flying Graysons also making an appearance emerged online, hinting that Titans might use their tragic deaths to provide emotional depth to Brenton Thwaites’ Dick Grayson. Aside from Parker and Thwaites, Titans will also feature Teagan Croft as Raven, Anna Diop as Starfire, Alan Ritchson as Hawk, Minka Kelly as Dove, and Lindsey Gort as Amy Rohrbach.

[h=1]Titans TV Show Casting Call Hints at Wonder Girl[/h]

The latest Titans TV show casting call hints at Donna Troy, aka. Wonder Girl, appearing in the DC Comics adaptation. Originally introduced as a younger version of Diana Prince aka. Wonder Woman, Donna Troy quickly evolved into a separate character altogether. Donna joined the Teen Titans in 1965’s The Brave and the Bold #60 and has frequently served as a member of the team since then. She has already joined the Titans outside of their comic book adventures, having appeared in the 2000’s Teen Titans cartoon series. Most recently, Donna made a brief appearance in this year’s animated DC film Teen Titans: The Judas Contract.
So far, the Titans TV series is confirmed to include Robin (Brenton Thwaites), Raven (Teagan Croft), Starfire (Anna Diop), and Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) as members of the core cast. The teenaged superheroes will be joined by fellow costumed crime-fighters Dove (Minka Kelly) and Hawk (Alan Ritchson) in their ongoing fight against evil. The show isn’t done filling out its principal cast yet either, with casting now underway for a guest star that could become a series regular in Titans season 2.

THS has proven to be a reliable source of information about Titans and has provided another update on the show’s casting search. The series is currently casting a role that, based on the description, appears to be that of Donna Troy aka. Wonder Girl. Read the official character breakdown below (for one “Ruth Gibbs”) and see if you agree:

[RUTH GIBBS] Female, 20s, Caucasian or Latina or Middle Eastern, or ethnically ambiguous. Confident and kick ass. Educated. RECURRING GUEST STAR THIS SEASON WITH AN OPTION FOR SERIES REGULAR NEXT SEASON.
With Wonder Woman being more popular than ever, it only makes sense for Titans to tap into that demand by including a “Wonder” hero of its own. As THS notes, it’s possible that a Middle Eastern actress will be cast to bring the show’s version of Wonder Girl more in line with the big screen Diana Prince portrayed by Gal Gadot (who is Israeli). Casting a non-white star as Donna Troy would also further ensure that Titans features a diverse crew of superheroes, both male and female.
The more that is revealed about Titans, the more the show looks and sounds in line with the Arrowverse on The CW. That shared DC TV universe have grown increasingly inclusive of late, with respect to both its onscreen and behind the scene talent. Save for Arrow, the Arrowverse TV series tend to embrace a more playful tone and colorful aesthetic as well. Titans is expected to have a similar sensibility, which only makes sense given the involvement of the Arrowverse architects Greg Berlanti and Geoff Johns as producers.
With the primary cast of Titans already in place, it shouldn’t be too long before additional casting announcements are made. As such, fans won’t have to wait too long to find out who “Ruth Gibbs” really is and who is playing her on the series.

[h=1]Arrow Showrunner: ‘Never Say Never’ About Titans Crossover[/h]

For years Arrow has been leading the charge when it comes to DCTV. It was the show that started a whole multiverse on The CW. Now the live-action world of DCTV is about to get just that much bigger with a Titans series on DC’s yet-to-debut streaming platform. Yet while it would seem natural for the Arrowverse and Titans to crossover, there are no plans.
Arrow (and its spinoffs) have hinted at the existence of some of the heroes that will be in Titans. Oliver Queen name-dropped Bruce Wayne in season 6 who is, of course, the mentor to the Titans’ leader Dick Grayson. (Actor Brenton Thwaites will be leading the Titans series as Dick.) Oliver has also frequently visited Bludhaven, the home of Dick’s grown-up superhero persona Nightwing. This is not even to mention that Arrow had Roy Harper as a part of its supporting cast, while The Flash had Wally West. Both Wally and Roy are founding members of the Teen Titans in the comics. Still one of Arrow‘s executive producers doesn’t see a combined future between the series, at least not right away.

At ACE Comic Con, Arrow co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim was asked about the possibility of Titans and Arrow crossing over, as well as which character might pop up on Titans. Guggenheim responded:
Great question, again, above my pay grade. I will say this, the one thing I’ve learned is ‘never say never.’ I could not begin to tell you how often we say to each other, ‘We never thought any of this was going to happen. We never thought we’d see all these characters. We never thought there’d be a universe.’ So, never say never, but in terms of which characters be on which shows, what’s part of the universe, above my paygrade and probably that’s a good thing.

While maybe disappointing for some, this does seem to fit in with the current status quo for the Arrowverse. Black Lightning will be premiering in 2018 and be paired with The Flash on The CW but there are no plans to connect it to the multiverse that has been created. Black Lightning will exist in its own world.
At the same time, it must be mentioned that plans can change very quickly. This is what Guggenheim points out in his answer. Supergirl originally started as a completely separate series. Now it has been incorporated fully into the Arrowverse, even though it takes place on another Earth.
It seems like Titans, which is preparing to film its first season, will begin in a similar fashion. While there might be references and Easter eggs, it doesn’t seem like it will take place on Arrowverse’s Earth-1. It’s a dim hope but the hope is still there that one day Thwaites’ Dick Grayson and Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen will interact on Titans, Arrow or both.

Arrow
season 6 airs Thursdays at 9/8c on The CW. Titans will premiere sometime in 2018.

[h=1]DC’s Titans: Robin Flashbacks May Include Batman Appearance[/h]

DC’s live-action Titans TV show looks to include flashbacks to Robin’s past, along with a character who could be Bruce Wayne/Batman. Brenton Thwaites of The Giver and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales fame is playing the grown-up Dick Grayson in the show’s present-day, and the character will presumably serve as the de factor leader of the Titans on the series (as he typically has in Titans comics and animated TV shows past).
Titans was created by Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (The Dark Tower) and DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, along with Arrowverse architects Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. The live-action DC Comics TV show spent years in development at TNT before the network ultimately decided to take a pass on the series. Titans appeared to be all but dead in the water until this past spring, when DC announced its plans to launch an exclusive streaming service that would kickoff with both Titans and the long-awaited third season of the animated series Young Justice. Casting updates for Titans have been flowing in at a pretty regular pace over the months since then.

THS has now provided several Titans casting breakdowns and character descriptions, as well as casting calls that hint at superheroes like Wonder Girl and Roy Harper showing up on the series in supporting roles. The site has now gotten ahold of the description for a character known as “Young John Crossland”, which in actuality appears to be a young Dick Grayson. You can read the casting call in full below:
[YOUNG JOHN CROSSLAND] Male, Caucasian, To play 10-13, athletic, lean, approximately 5’0″ and not afraid of heights. Please list height on submission. RECURRING GUEST STAR

This isn’t the first indication that Titans will include flashbacks to Dick Grayson’s tragic past. Previously-leaked Robin casting audition videos for the show also suggested that Dick’s acrobatic family, the Flying Graysons, would appear on the show via flashbacks to Dick’s life prior to their deaths, when he was a kid. Perhaps more intriguing, however, is the description for a character that is being referred to as “Dave Story”, which THS is speculating could be the casting call for Bruce Wayne/Batman. You can read the official description of the role below:

DAVE STORY] Male, mid 30s-40s, Caucasian. The downfalls of others only make this man stronger. Polished. Unwavering. Think a young Jack Nicholson. RECURRING GUEST STAR.
Titans is expected to remain mostly faithful to Dick Grayson’s backstory in the world of DC Comics, by having Bruce Wayne adopt him after his circus-performing parents are killed. It’s possible that Titans will even show Bruce and Dick training during its flashback sequences, providing the show with its own small screen version of the Caped Crusader. Alternatively, Bruce might only appear in the shadows and/or as a mysterious presence, similar to how Superman was portrayed in the first season of the live-action Supergirl TV series (before Tyler Hoechlin officially donned the Man of Steel’s Kryptonian armor for season 2).
If Batman does appear on Titans, it seems safe to assume that it will only be during flashbacks to Dick’s past and/or via brief appearances in the show’s present-day. Dick will presumably be operating as Robin separate from the Caped Crusader for most of the series, as he typically does in the Teen Titans comics and animated movies/TV shows. Not to mention, between Gotham featuring a teenaged proto-Batman version of Bruce Wayne and Ben Affleck playing the Caped Crusader in the DC Films Universe (for now, anyway), DC has already hit its quota when it comes to having more than one live-action Batman going at a time.

DC’s Titans TV Series Casting Call May Confirm Trigon recently revealed casting call may reveal that Trigon is coming to DC’s live-action Titans TV series. The show first entered development in 2014, back when it was still attached to the TNT network. About a year and a half later, TNT ended up dropping the project before DC Comics announced that it was being revived as a flagship program of their digital service, which is set to launch sometime in 2018. It’s been a rocky road, but the Teen Titans are finally coming to life in live-action!As the series’ 2018 premiere date looms, we’re starting to get a clearer picture of what Titans will look like. In the last month alone, we’ve gotten our first look at Brenton Thwaites’ spot-on Robin, as well as Hawk (Alan Ritchson) and Dove (Minka Kelly). We’re still waiting to see what Starfire, Beast Boy, and Raven will look like, but a new report suggests that the latter will be getting an unexpected familial connection in the series. In the comics, Raven is the daughter of a human mother and a straight-up demon, the insanely powerful Trigon. While the villain is an integral part of Raven’s backstory, few expected that he’d be making an appearance in Titans. At least not right out of the gate, anyway. But if this report from Titans Podcast is accurate, the fire demon may well make his debut in season one. Check out the character description in question below and see if you think it matches up with Trigon.[EVAN LOGUE]: Male, Late 30s-40s, Caucasian. Charismatic. A cult leader attempting to reunite his family. Central role for series finale. RECURRING GUEST STAR. Please submit star/cameo names. Casting early for wardrobe but the role works Ep. 111 (04/09-04/19) and Ep. 112 (04/19 – 05/01)Previous casting call breakdowns have already provided a ton of insight into the series, hinting at appearances from big names like Donna Troy and Roy Harper. One of those breakdowns strongly implied that Raven’s biological mother would be making a guest spot, so in that sense, an appearance from dear old dad makes sense. Then again, Trigon is an enormous fire demon that could seemingly only be realized with some super expensive CGI. (Just how gigantic is this show’s budget, anyway?) Trigon is capable of taking on a human form for the purposes of deception, but given that the description above seemingly sets him up as the big bad for the last two episodes, it’d be pretty disappointing to see the Titans coming together for a final showdown against a supervillain whose physical appearance has been nerfed for budgetary reasons. We saw plenty of that back in Smallville.Source: Titans Podcast

Titans May Be Casting for Ra’s al Ghul A new casting call for the upcoming DC Comics‘ television series Titans suggests that the show may be following in the footsteps of Arrow in recruiting one of Batman‘s greatest villains – the immortal Ra’s Al Ghul! The live-action series, based on the classic Teen Titans and Titans comics, is planned for release on DC Comics’ upcoming digital streaming service by the end of 2018.This casting call is only the latest for the upcoming series, which has already cast it’s core team of four main Titans – Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Teagan Croft as Raven, Brenton Thwaites as Robin and Anna Diop as Starfire. The series will also feature Alan Ritchson as Hawk and Minka Kelly as Dove. Previous casting calls for the series seemed to be aimed at Wonder Girl, the demon Trigon and the obscure Titan Solstice.Related: DC’s Titans TV Series Casting Call Hints At SolsticeThat Hashtag Show reported the casting call description and their speculations as to what character the Titans producers are seeking in a video (seen above) posted on their YouTube channel. The description does indeed seem like a fair summation of the classic villain.Male, 40s-50s, Middle Eastern, Latin, or East Indian. Seeking a young Richard Attenborough type. Fearless, manipulative, with unparalleled intelligence. Recurring guest star, seeking recognizable faces only.Created by writer Dennis O’Neil and artist Neil Adams as part of their now legendary partnership, Ra’s Al Ghul first appeared Batman #232 in June 1971. Revealed to be over 600 years old, his life prolonged by the natural alchemical baths that he dubbed The Lazarus Pits, Ra’s was the leader of the ancient order known as The League of Assassins. Having deduced that Bruce Wayne was Batman and considering him a worthy replacement to lead The League of Assassins upon his death, Ra’s tested Batman’s worthiness with a series of challenges. Though he swore an oath of vengeance when Batman refused his generous offer to become his heir and marry his daughter, Ra’s still showed a great deal of respect for Batman, whom he addresses as “Detective” in deference to his intelligence, and has kept Bruce Wayne’s identity as Batman a secret.Though the description does sound like Ra’s Al Ghul and he’s described as a “recurring guest star,” it seems unlikely that he would be one of the main villains cast for a Titans TV series. Ignoring that Ra’s has crossed paths with Robin as much as Batman, Ra’s has had few encounters with the Teen Titans in the past. Additionally, the use of the character on Arrow – where Ra’s Al Ghul chose Oliver Queen to become his heir – provoked considerable backlash from fans of the show who considered the break with comics canon to be the point where Arrow went off the rails. Then again, if there is any character who can make an impressive comeback, it is Ra’s Al Ghul.Titans debuts in 2018 on the DC-branded direct-to-consumer digital service, operated by Warner Bros. Digital Networks.Source: That Hashtag Show

[h=1]DC’s Titans Live-Action TV Show Casts the Doom Patrol’s Leader[/h]

The cast of DC’s live-action Titans TV show continues to expand, with Bruno Bichir (Narcos) singing on as The Chief. DC has yet to name its upcoming streaming service, but it shouldn’t be much longer now as Titans is swiftly preparing to premiere later this year. With the leads locked in, various other supporting roles have been hinted at, proving the Geoff Johns-run series will be packed full of comic book characters.
Along with the core heroes (Robin, Beast Boy, Raven, Starfire, and Hawk & Dove), it appears that several well-known villains and heroes will be joining the series. A casting call has indicated that Wonder Girl is coming to Titans, mirroring sibling show Young Justice by recruiting some of DC’s biggest sidekicks. The TV show’s big bad has yet to be revealed, but Trigon and R’as al Ghul are both DC Comics villains rumored to appear on the series in some capacity. In the meantime, another important character from the world of DC has been revealed for the Titans live-action series.

Deadline is reporting that Bruno Bichir has now joined the Titans TV show cast in the role of Dr. Niles Caulder. Also known as The Chief, Caulder is a genius with some questionable ethics and certainly walks a moral gray line. Bichir has made quite a name for himself over the years, with his work on TV shows like Absentia, The Bridge, and Narcos. He will next appear in this summer’s crime/thriller sequel Sicario 2: Soldado, the highly-anticipated follow-up to Sicario.

The Chief debuted in 1963’s My Greatest Adventure #80, but would quickly become known for his role in leading the misfits heroes of The Doom Patrol. The character’s appearance in the upcoming DC show is no coincidence, either, as The Doom Patrol are coming to Titans. Johns is already working on episode 5 of the streaming series, and it will focus on the unusual young heroes and their dynamic with the Titans. While The Chief is the leader of The Doom Patrol, he may prove to be a thorn in the side of Robin and his allies on the show.
Castle star Seamus Dever also joined Titans recently, though in an unknown role. It’s possible, then, that he too will play a member of The Doom Patrol. Alternatively, his character could be connected to The Flying Graysons on Titans, as Robin’s family is said to play a role in the series. Based on the casting updates and rumors thus far, it’s clear the flagship show for DC’s streaming service won’t be afraid to pull heavily from the comics. It may have taken years for the show to make it out of development hell, but its new home looks to be the best place for Titans.

premiers later this year on DC’s streaming service.

[h=1]Titans Set Photo Teases a Favorite Batman Location [Updated][/h]

Update 3/6/2018 9:55pm ET: The set photo is actually from DC’s live-action Titans series. The rest of this article has been left as it was originally published.
–
The set images from Shazam! keep coming, with the latest revealing an Easter egg for Batman’s city. With New Line distributing Shazam! and the long-in-development Justice League Dark, fans have wondered for years if the story of Billy Batson would be separate from the DCEU. We know Warner Bros. and DC’s Joker origin film will be in its own universe, so it’s clear not every character from the comics is part of the Justice League continuity. And given the lighter and more whimsical tone of Shazam!, it’s not hard to imagine it forging its own path.

That said, evidence keeps piling up that Shazam! will take part in the same world as the other films DC has released since Man of Steel. Early audition tapes teased Batman and Superman existing in Shazam!, with the heroes helping to inspire young Billy once he gains his powers. Previously-leaked set photos also revealed that other DCEU characters will cameo in Shazam! as toys at some point, if not also in the flesh. The latest photo from the film’s set provides even more proof of the Justice League’s existence in the movie.
RELATED: Titans TV Show Casts Doom Patrol’s Robotman
blogTO has posted a set photo from Shazam!, which is currently shooting in Toronto (see the photo embedded below). Though the image at first seems like a random shot of a news van, a closer look reveals that the van is from Gotham City.
There's a superhero movie filming in #Toronto right now https://t.co/IEfidJCCDA pic.twitter.com/cF9bEsyv8A
— blogTO (@blogTO) March 6, 2018
You are correct, it's Titans that is seen in the feature image of this post, not Shazam.
— What's Filming (@WhatsFilmingON) March 6, 2018

Whether the set is supposed to be Gotham or a big event just brings the city’s local news to town, it’s not clear. Either way, DC clearly isn’t shy about nodding to the Dark Knight’s hometown. That could mean that Batman will cameo during Shazam!, though an appearance by the Man of Steel seems more likely. It remains to be seen if the rumors that Superman will appear in Shazam! pan out, but at least the movie looks to acknowledge to Batman’s existence at some point.
Set photos for Shazam! have been coming in at a regular interval, now that it’s well into production. Shortly after director David F. Sandberg teased that a costume reveal was coming soon, we got our first look at Shazam’s suit thanks to a leaked image from the film’s set. And with keen fans taking more photos each day, we can expect plenty of additional teases over the coming weeks.
The synopsis for Shazam! gave us our first real tease about the film’s story and tone, but there’s still a lot about the plot we don’t know. Set photos and videos will certainly hint at things to come, but it’s likely Warner Bros. and DC will want to get some more official information out soon regarding Shazam! – so stay tuned.

[h=1]Rumor: DC's Titans Is A Mature TV Show With Lots Of F-Bombs[/h]

A new report claims the Titans TV series on DC Universe is going to be more mature than anticipated, featuring heavy violence and language. The DC landscape is changing quickly with the fast approaching launch of DC's digital service. As it was recently announced, the service will bring a vast library of TV shows and movies (both animated and live-action) and comics into a single platform. It will launch later this year with an exclusive live-action series that'll bring the fan-favorite young team of heroes known as the Titans to life.
There's been plenty of interest in the series already thanks to the new platform it's attached to, but other than that, there's still plenty of mystery. The cast is led by Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson aka Robin, and he's been surrounded by a cast of up and comers. Despite the young age of the cast, it appears the show isn't necessarily targeting the younger viewer

Splash Report shared some reported details from Titans' pilot, and while there's a focus on Robin, Starfire (Anna Diop), and Raven (Teegan Croft), it's the tone that stands out the most. These details should be taken with a grain of salt for the time being, but Titans is said to feature strong language such as "multiple f-bombs." There's also an R-rated feel to the violence, which includes "bone snaps, people being shot, burned, and mangled."

These details are not yet confirmed, but would signify Titans is going to be very different from what most expected. DC has done mature content in the past, such as Watchmen, and it looks as though Warner Bros. wants to keep that going with their DC Dark label too. This creative decision could've been made to help Titans stand out among the glut of comic book based TV shows, and the fact that its home is DC Universe gives DC complete control over the tone and style they want.
There appears to be a bit of a change towards lighter material on the big screen for DC, so Titans could really separate itself with a mature approach. Even though the show isn't based in the same continuity as the DC movies, this style appeals to a different demographic than DC may already be attracting. Plus, with Young Justice: Outsiders going to DC Universe and Teen Titans Go! To The Movies hitting theaters this July, a more mature approach instantly gives Titans a unique quality.
This isn't the only live-action series DC Universe is creating either, so this could be DC's way of rivaling Marvel's Netflix series, which are also more adult oriented. Doom Patrol is a direct spinoff from Titans, while Swamp Thing's possible connections remain unknown. There were also rumors of Hawk and Dove getting a spinoff too, so these could all stay true to this mature style. That is, if these details are correct. Thankfully, it won't be too much longer before the series debuts.
