First person even during driving fuck yes!

  • CD Projekt describes the game as a "first-person RPG."
  • Gameplay is in first a first-person perspective, but switched to third-person during a cutscene.
  • You play a character named V (as in the letter).
  • V can be a man or a woman.
  • The game features first-person driving.
  • While driving, the U.I. appears diegetically on the windshield.
  • Damage numbers pop up during combat.
  • CD Projekt also described Cyberpunk as a "mature experience intended for mature audiences."
  • Like Witcher, you take missions from NPCs and have dialogue options in conversations.
  • It's an open world that you open up more with "street cred." For example, a specific jacket might raise it by 5%, allowing you access to new places.
Seamless open world. It would be a miracle if they make it work on this console gen.

Edit: Confirmed this gen. But ya'll know where its meant to be played.

Man, everything about it sounds sooooooo good!

Cyberpunk Info from GameSpot Stream:

  • Game is FPS perspective
  • FPS perspective made to feel more personal
  • RPG with Shooter Elements not a Shooter with RPG elements
  • Multiple different progression systems (Skills, Perks, etc.)
  • V, protagonist - urban merc/hired gun.
  • Full character creation system (Gender, Looks, Lifepath/Backstory)
  • You DO NOT pick classes in the beginning, class system is fluid based on choices
  • Dystopian Cyberpunk future shown in sunlight on purpose. Full Day/Night Cycle. Noir themes bleed through environment and aesthetic
  • Characters from Cyberpunk 2020 lore will appear
  • Netrunner Techie and Solo are main focused classes
  • You can combine classes
  • Optional classes exist (like Rockerboy and Corporate) and you can pull perks from them to add into your own custom class
  • Story and quest system from Witcher 3 is implemented into Cyberpunk similarly.
  • Choice and consequence is HUGE. Emphasized that the game is an RPG first and foremost
  • Story is personalized by player choice.
  • Combat - Ranged combat and Melee combat. Learned lessons from Witcher 3. FPS Melee combat.
  • Weapons - 3 branches - Power Weapons (heavy hitting/stagger), Tech Weapons (penetrating through cover), Smart Weapons (tracking/following)
  • Vehicles - Motorcycles, Cars, hinted at flying cars.
  • V is a fully voiced character. Both Male and Female completely voiced.
  • V's personality is shaped by player. Backstory and interactions shape V's personality.
  • Cyberpunk is a dark dystopia in the same vein as Witcher 3 being Dark Fantasy
  • Details of the world - everything has a purpose. World design was a huge focus in setting the tone.
  • Night City - in between SF and LA (fictional city). Inspired by both cities.
  • 6 unique districts in the city. Each area has its own feel on top of the base Noir feel
  • Exploration is encouraged.
  • Witcher was horizontally huge, Cyberpunk is vertically huge.
  • You can enter buildings, Mega Buildings exist as well with multiple floors and multiple areas to explore within a single building.
  • No level scaling. 2 forms of XP - Core XP - Main Missions and Street Cred - Side missions
  • Higher Street Cred opens new exclusive vendors and fixers (new jobs)

nice to see them recognize that melee and ranged combat was perhaps not the best in W3

All of this sounds super good on paper. The idea behind the trailer (ala showing the city like a watch dog / gta type game) was bold, but I am happy to know that its gonna be darker and grittier than the trailer. Also its good that they addressed the "lovelyness of the world" in the trailer by showing the day/night dynamic system rather than the feel of the city

All of this sounds super good on paper.
Much of it is nothing new, though.

- First-person perspective: it's a given that the studio can't handle complex 3rd person collision detection, so this might be a good move for them.
- Cover based gunplay: remains to be seen how the act of going into and out of cover is handled here.
- Street cred: aka Far Cry 5's reputation system.
- Seamless open world: several other games have done it before. CDPR is finally catching up post-TW3.
- Slowing down time: nothing new and very easy to implement in games.
- Controlling bots: again, nothing that hasn't been seen before. Other games have had the player use drones to recon areas etc.
- Vehicles: motorcycles, cars, flying vehicles - GTA did this ages ago.

Its about time they showed this beauty to the public.

We sat down at E3 to witness 50 minutes of stunning gameplay. Jaws dropped at the ultraviolence. Eyeballs sprang out on stalks. Ears burned at the spicy language. And afterwards we jabbered out mouths off in excitement at what we’d just witness. Holy. Guacamole. The wait has been justified. The hype tame in comparison to reality. Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be a game changer.

Cyberpunk 2077 is definitely not just “Cyberpunk Witcher,” it’s something a whole lot more than that. The core of what I loved about The Witcher is clearly there, but in a wild and exciting new shell that stands as something wholly its own.

Its worth pointing out that this guy hates Witcher 3 lol

Will wait to see the gameplay myself. :p

Also, not specific to Cyberpunk but what's with every other game talking about America (except the fact that the US is the key gaming market, both in terms of production and consumption)? Kinda tired of it now. Futuristic America, post-apocalyptic America, old America, normal America, new America, saving America, destroying America, etc. There's a whole wide world beyond that which could bring some more freshness in games, even for US gamers.

After the unparalleled benchmark they set with Novigrad and Toussaint, I do not expect anything less from them.

From the outset, it's very clear that CD Projekt has injected their RPG chops into every facet of Cyberpunk.

The one thing you don't select during character creation is any sort of specifically designated class of any sort. Cyberpunk uses a fluid class system that grows out of your choices and abilities that you develop throughout your gameplay experience.

One thing that blew away the entire demo room was the extent of life the city had as soon as V exited from her apartment.

CD Projekt's goal was to create the most believable city in a video game to date, and based on what we saw, it's safe to say they may have already succeeded. The city is subdivided into six districts with no loading screens of any sort, and is seemingly massive.

During the gameplay situations shown, it's immediately clear that while the gameplay may resemble an FPS in a cursory glance, the combat options available are still very much "RPG" at their core.

CD Projekts newest undertaking is bold and unreserved. Despite not being anything more than a years-old teaser video up until a few days ago, Cyberpunk 2077 is already convincingly charasmatic, and we can't wait to see more.
Cyberpunk 2077 Impressions from E3 2018 | RPG Site

All these glowing impressions from the press but I wonder if neuromancer's papa of the haters Mr. Gibson got to see the demo or not? :tears:

I saw a 50 minute live uncut gameplay demo and was blown away by the level of detail in Night City, the open world in which the game takes place.

In one street I noticed a crime scene, with holographic recreations of the crime visible behind police lines. Neon is everywhere. And yes, there's a noodle bar.

The twin blades we saw in Cyberpunk 2077's announcement trailer are present and correct. You can use them to slice and dice enemies.

Would you agree with the suggestion that the game has an 80s vibe to it?

Patrick Mills: There is an 80s influence, for sure. But we don't limit ourselves to just the 80s. You've also got influences from other eras, and of course from other types of sci-fi and cyberpunk. We've got lots of influences in there. We really want this city and the people in it to be vibrant and alive. What you're gonna see in the game is a mix of all sorts of art styles to create almost a wall of culture. It's like a wall of noise to just blast at you and make you feel like you're in this alive, vibrant place. It's also an international place, as I mentioned before. You have a lot of different influences from different cultures all around the world.

When the camera pulled back to show the car in third person, I thought of Grand Theft Auto. Is that a fair comparison for you?

Patrick Mills: It is a comparison that is, on the surface level, really looks like it. GTA 5 took place in California and our game takes place in California as well. You see it and there are similarities. But it's not the same kind of game. We are an RPG. We're a non-linear RPG with a character you control and you create. In terms of how we build quests, that's distinctly us, and you're going to get that. We would really want you to look more at Witcher 3 in terms of what you're going to get from this.

A lot more in the linked article.

Let's see how much of this "in-engine" is actually reflective of the final game.

The Witcher 3's bullshot original trailers were nowhere near reflective of the final game quality even on the ultra presets.

@Chandoo @CerebralTiger
u do know that the only worthy experience is gona be the ONE X experience
lol I wonder if the PC version of this game will miss out on HDR support just like The Witcher 3 did, making the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro the definitive versions. Heck, even the thread OP agrees that HDR support is "more game changing than [native] 4K (which is a simple resolution boost)". What more can I say :hah:

As far as my preference is concerned, I can ditch 4K and HDR in favor of silky smooth 60fps any day. Even someone like @Chandoo has come to terms with that :p

Lets see if the Pro or X1X can manage 60fps in this game ;)

Cyberpunk 2077's E3 demo was incredible and massive, here's everything we learned

Six hours after my hands-off hour-long demo of Cyberpunk 2077, I finally got a chance to sit down to write out my thoughts. That quarter of a day, those 360 minutes, have done nothing to quell how goddamn fucking excited I am for this game.

; at one point in my notes, I just wrote "Goddamn, this city rules."

I went into this E3 demo as a guy who had seen the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer and thought it looked cool as hell, but with no other real expectations. I came out of the demo as a guy who's looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 more than any other video game.
E3 2018: Cyberpunk 2077 Is Even More Ambitious Than You Think It Is - GameSpot

Inspired and influenced by the original Cyberpunk 2020 pen and paper RPG, 2077 extrapolates many of the themes and iconography while capitalizing on the developer's skillset for crafting dense and visually rich environments.

Seeing the setting in action showcased the game's superb visual style and aesthetic, which feels like a heavy contrast to other dark and gloomy cyberpunk fiction like Blade Runner, Altered Carbon, or Johnny Mnemonic. In Cyberpunk 2077, there's a lot more variety on display, which plays with many of the sub-genre's familiar tropes.

We saw a near hour-long gameplay demo behind closed doors at E3 2018, showcasing many of the game's systems and locales, and came out impressed by the scope of CD Projekt Red's ambitious project.

The E3 2018 demo for Cyberpunk 2077 was overwhelming with all its detail, but it did give us the impression that there was a large world with all sorts of systems to explore and mess with. The setting and some gameplay ideas are certainly a big departure for CD Projekt Red, but it also has a number of cool and visually stunning details that show off an incredibly rich world to jump head-first into.
