Yes, you heard it right. There's not much performance difference. However, E8400 has more and optimized cache.
E8400 also overclocks well if you do.

Why'd you want to buy or invest on such old socket? What about sell out your current mobo and get an i3-2100 instead? It'll cost you about equal and performance will be significant. Rethink your strategy.

In that budget, get a Quad-Core processor of the 775 Socket.

The only good and common model's available are Q8200, Q8300, Q8400 and Q9400.
Any of these processor's would be better than an E8400. And they also come in the same price which is in your budget but used.

In 11.5K, you can find a used Q9400 (6MB cache) which would be your best choice for now.

Just don't ever go for a Q6600.

The Rs. 7000 pentium g620 sandy bridge is faster than the e8400! So forget about upgrading to a faster lga 775 CPU. Go with sandy bridge.

the difference between gaming performance for E8400 and E7500 will be very less so id say get the cheaper one

The prices u mentioned are EXTREMELY High for both processors bro

Ur throwing water down the gutter by spending 13500Rs on E8400 and 11500Rs seriously
this was the price of these processors 3 Years ago man

Think this through
i3 2100 costs ~11000 Rs and clear cut faster than E8400 and E7500
it even beats out Core2Quad Q9550 is Gaming and Q9400 is almost all applications

Sell ur Motherboard and Rams and replace them with Intel DH61 and 2GB DDR3

E8400 can compete quad q6600 in some benchmarks.........SO its the best choice for u , go for it.........or if u wanna buy new mobo too, go for i3

Dual Core e6500 performs same as C2D e7500 go for e6500.
Yes exactly. The pentium E6600 @ Rs. 7,000 or the E6500. Actually you can't buy e8400 brand new anymore. It can only be bought used.

@kashifji: If you are truly willing to spend 13000 on just a CPU then why not buy a motherboard + CPU of sandy bridge in the same price? See:

CPU: pentium g620 6800
Mobo: Intel Dh61WW 6400
Total 13200

If you sell your DDR2 RAMS you will get 2x the amount you need to buy equivalent DDR3 RAM sticks. Sell your existing mobo and CPU and free up even more cash. In which case going with a faster core i3 2100 is a good idea.

If you mind reading other post, he has some problem in shifting the platform (Idk what).
Yea I saw that I just assumed he was just reluctant to spent a little more on new motherboard or didn't want to get into the hassle of selling his old motherboard, just wanted to show him how big of a difference there really is maybe he might change his mind who knows.

Even going with the super budget h61 and i3 would beat anything a maximum oced e8400 could give out.

As for your choices id prob go with the cheaper one and oc it. If you have a really good motherboard like p43 or p45 u can go for e6500 even and oc it to 3.8 ghz or 4 ghz easy, wolfdale chip ofc not the core 2 duo, should be great money saver if thats what your going for.
