can 9800gt work on my Dell gx280 board?

I have a Dell Gx 280 machine with 3.0 ghz processor. It has PCI-E 1.0 slot.


As far as i know, 9800gt 512 mb DDR3 is a PCI-E 2.0 Graphics Card.


So my question is will 9800gt work on my PCI-E 1.0 slot ?


If yes, then will be there any effect on performance of my card ??? OR will it work absolutely fine... ?

All PCI-e 2.0 cards are backward compatible with PCI-E 1.0 slots. Performance should not make not too much of difference if at all with this card. Performance will depend upon your CPU more.

yes this slot will support ur gpu and most of the 775 pins mobo have pci 1.0 slot so there is no problem

It will work fine. Although the PCIe 1.0 slots have a lower bandwidth than the 2,0 slots but you will see no difference in both..

yes it will work, using a PCI-E 2.0 card with a PCI-E 1.0 slot myself on GX280

it will work but you have to get a power supply for the card as gx280 have 250watt power supply with 14a on 12v rails so get a good branded power supply with atleast 18a on 12v rails

Your 9800GT will become limited by your processor(assuming it's single-core P4)... so it's better if you save money by getting a cheaper card which has less power consumption as well.

I guess i need to upgrade my system to dual core or core 2 duo...

but let me know guyz that *what do u mean by effect on performance ???* ...............like i will face kind of issues while running some heavy games lyk GTA 4, Modern Warfare 2 etc ???????

You will get low frames per second (fps) with that single core p4 and you will not utilize your full card's potential. Hypothetical example: if you get 25fps in Hawx, changing processor to dual core will get you to maybe 60fps.

Playing Videos and Games are totally different things.

yes.....1080p can also run on normal graphic card but when it comes to game, its totally different... ...if your games also work flawlessly then let us know...
