Building a home theater, assistance required in tracking down parts (Polk Audio, Onkyo etc)

Hey folks,

I'm planning a home theater setup for my living room and am looking for shops that sell speakers and woofers etc from companies such as Polk Audio, Onkyo and Dennon. I don't want to buy a htib or a bundle and would rather mix and match individual parts. I called Nascho Electronics in Karachi after finding out about them here in some threads here, but the prices they quoted were very high. The Polk Audio speakers I was interested in for example (pair of tsi 300) were 20k higher than the standard online price. I am of course aware that the stuff will cost way more than in the U.S. or even the U.K. but this much of a margin is a little too extreme.

So if anyone can think of or recommend other shops that also sell this gear I'd really appreciate it. I'm located in Islamabad but can arrange to have relatives buy the stuff for me from Karachi or Lahore if the options and prices there are better.

Also, I'm still rather new to the whole home theater thing, so if anyone with experience about the mid to high range setups wants to pitch in, please be my guest. To briefly summarize what sort of setup I have in mind, it is an Onkyo receiver, Polk Audio speakers (2 front, 1 center, 2 back) and a Polk Audio woofer.

Thanks in advance!

5.1 is base. Home theater setups should be 7.1 now these days. But as you are starting, 5.1 is enough and bare minimum!.

You are on the right track with those companies.

I know that 7.1 is the new standard. I'll add another pair of speakers down the road. For now I want to focus on getting the initial 5. Just need to find reasonable deals here.

Which Yamaha HTS did you get? That is another company I am interested in so some opinions on their products would be nice.

It's very difficult to get those brands here without paying them huge margins, sometimes even double the amount of the price indicated online. Good Luck bargain hunting, if you do get a good deal then do update here.

Thanks for the recommendation. Could you elaborate on your exact setup? Do you have AM 15s for front and AM 10s for back? Where did you get them from and how much did they cost? Have you used them for both movies and games? And how big is the room where you have set them up?

And yeah, from the prices I got from Nascho, the margins were really ridiculous. For comparison's sake:

The front speakers were for 20k more
The woofer was 13k more
The center speaker was for 17k more
The back speakers were for 10k more
The receiver was for 11k more

And I compared the prices with the most expensive options available online. Pretty depressing. I guess I'll just have to deal with the fact that the stuff will simply be way more costly here if I want to get a decent setup. However, I still have a month or so before I make a decision, so I'll continue looking at shops around the country and other brand options before I pull the trigger.

Thanks again for the replies folks, I really appreciate the feedback.

Bro AM 15 and AM 10 are different setups in different rooms...In my room ive got AM10 Bose with a yamaha amp...now AM 10 is for 1000$ and the yamaha amp is for 450 $ whereas the AM15 is for 1400$ and the amp for 700$...

Well my setup is something like this

2 sets of double cube speakers on the sides of my tv mounted with wall brackets and a central speaker on top of my lcd

another 2 sets of double cube speakers on the back wall ...

AM comes with a AM base module and its pretty big :)

yeah I use em both for movies and games...believe me while playing games its MIND BLOWING :)

My room is 16-18 feet I think :)

Plus If i put AM10s on the front and AM15s on the back then that would blow my head off...too much man :p

AM10 itself has 9 speakers so just think what would 9+14 speakers plus 2 AM modules do...too much man :p

ill post a pic of my setup here but its only from the front...back ko khud hi guess kar lena :p

Thanks for clarifying! The setup looks awesome! I'll check around tomorrow to see if it's available here and for how much :)

Bose Acoustimass 5.1 HTS is for over 2 lakh in Islamabad. And no, its not worth it. You wanna spend that much build a custom system from either Polk Audio, Yamaha or Klipsch

Ok..

Shouldn't this be in the hardware section now?

Just askin.
I was considering making this thread in the hardware section too, till I read what it says:

Looking for buying a new PC or accessories? having a hardware problem? then this is the place for you to talk about PC hardwares and gizmos!

Since this isn't a discussion about PC hardware, I thought this forum would be appropriate. :)

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
