[h=1]Borderlands 2's Claptrap and Gearbox Software Pay Tribute to a Fallen Fan[/h]

Gearbox Software has often turned to its resident smartass robot Claptrap to do a favor for its fans like propose marriage or lighten up an otherwise dull awards ceremony. Not only did Gearbox call on its favorite general purpose robot once again to honor the memory of one of its fans, but Gearbox also came up with a novel way to make sure his memory lives on in Borderlands 2.

Destructoid reported that Gearbox created a special non-playable character in Borderlands 2 based on the late Michael John Mamaril, a fan of the Borderlands series who passed away last year at the age of 22.
One of Michael's friends first reached out to Gearbox shortly after his passing less than a year ago to ask if Claptrap could deliver a short eulogy. Naturally, Gearbox complied and offered the following heartfelt words.

Then as Borderlands 2 went into development, Gearbox decided to go one step further by inserting Michael into the game as a character without anyone asking them. We're sure that those who knew and loved Michael are more than touched by this generous gaming gesture.

Destructoid: Gearbox to honor late fan as an NPC in Borderlands 2

just out of curiosity, does this game have an actual story/plot or is it just as paper thin as the first games ?

This game is all about looting. The first game had 18 million variants of guns available. This one would be the same, but with even more refined gameplay + graphics. There will again be big ass bosses + more variety of enemies hopefully.

I already know I'm gonna dislike this game on account of having no storyline at all but I'm downloading it anyways, Last time I played Borderlands I was expecting with an awesome world and NPCs like Fallout 3, this time My expectations are limited to a mindless shooter with good cell shaded graphics.I hope I like it this time.

Well there is much more to it than "mindless shooter". If you give it a chance with 4 player mp coop (with friends), i am sure you would love it!
This. Borderlands is an absolute blast when played with friends. Story lovers should wait for Bioshock Infinite (and stop playing Gears of War games :p).

What the fuck is wrong with you Saad?

With an entertaining antagonist, some surprising twists, and cutscenes you actually want to watch, the story is one of the many significant steps up from its predecessor.

Fans of the series' lore will no doubt appreciate some of the big narrative moments that occur. No spoilers, but for all its unhinged humor and general sense of chaotic fun, Borderlands 2 is not without its moments of loss and melancholy. There's a more affective story here for those who take the time to really absorb it, but much like the previous game it can also all be tuned out as background noise.
GamerLimit said:
Speaking of the narrative, while it’s not the most poignant or life-changing of stories, it fits the universe and tone of the game perfectly: so much so that it blows the first game out of the water. I get what they were trying to do for the first game — Gearbox wanted to create a unique western-grindhouse sandbox IP — unfortunately, it was not memorable. Borderlands 2 changes all that — I actually care about Pandora and its characters now. I want to see if anyone makes a return in the upcoming DLC packs, or a potential Borderlands 3.
EGM said:
But the laughs aren’t some attempt to distract us from the main event, as Gearbox took some of the more pointed remarks about the original Borderlands’ plotline as a challenge and put a ton of focus into helping Borderlands 2 keep up with the big boys in the genre. As a result, even the smallest missions are much more focused, peppered with tons of dialogue, and far more complex than anything seen in the first, giving this game a sense of substance that make the original entry seem more like a proof-of-concept than an actual game.
Gametrailers said:
The story in Borderlands 2 is by far the biggest improvement. The humor and over-the-top style that was merely glimpsed in the first game are ever-present here.
Borderlands 2 Critic Reviews for Xbox 360 - Metacritic
Every single review says the story is an improvement from the first, and about half of them say that the story is really great and stands on its own. Do some research before you guys write this game off and don't buy it because you think its got shit for story.

Anyway, I'm jumping in.

If you guys know me, have played me before, and have a mic, feel free to add me since I'm going co-op through and through. I prefer guys from Phadeybaaz or the guys from Diablo III who I played with. Rolling Maya the first time around.

Isn't RE6 previewing really badly? That's what I gather from GAF anyway.
How someone can ignore this game, yet be excited for RE6 is beyond me.

I hope RE6 is good though. I love RE4 but didn't like (or hate) RE5. I like Leon so I want the game to be good.

Have put the 7.1 GB version on download. Will be done by the end of Friday, hopefully will finish Sleeping Dogs by then! :)

So hyped for this game, can't wait to play it. Loved part one, and hearing about the improvements to gameplay, graphics (new extra options in PC version compared to Borderlands 1), and a story worth experiencing... Hell yeah can't wait to play it.

But I will take my time with Sleeping Dogs so don't wait up for screenshots or short review.

21 hours to go before it downloads. But there will no doubt be breaks in between.

i am absolutely positive that those who disliked the first game never gave a chance to the co-op element of the game.... it reached another level entirely when played with friends.... i played it with 3 cousins on a sys-link on xbox.... one of my fondest memories of co-op gaming....

have already told my cousins to free up some time in the next week or so.... can't wait!!

Hey hey. Make up your mind!

I hope I like it but if it's like the first 1 i.e with a "peper thin" story and NPCs without any charcter then I will dislike it.Maybe I'll play co-op with someone through system Link on my J tag.I'll have the game downloaded by tomorrow, If any Jtag owners are interest in a little bit of co-op they can contact me.

Chandoo you up for it?

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
