[h=1]Borderlands 2's Claptrap and Gearbox Software Pay Tribute to a Fallen Fan[/h]
Gearbox Software has often turned to its resident smartass robot Claptrap to do a favor for its fans like
propose marriage or lighten up
an otherwise dull awards ceremony. Not only did Gearbox call on its favorite general purpose robot once again to honor the memory of one of its fans, but Gearbox also came up with a novel way to make sure his memory lives on in
Borderlands 2.
Destructoid reported that Gearbox created a special non-playable character in Borderlands 2 based on the late Michael John Mamaril, a fan of the
Borderlands series who passed away last year at the age of 22.
One of Michael's friends first reached out to Gearbox shortly after his passing less than a year ago to ask if Claptrap could deliver a short eulogy. Naturally, Gearbox complied and offered the following heartfelt words.
Then as Borderlands 2 went into development, Gearbox decided to go one step further by inserting Michael into the game as a character without anyone asking them. We're sure that those who knew and loved Michael are more than touched by this generous gaming gesture.
