[h=1]Rumor Patrol: ‘Batman V Superman’ Trailer Attached to ‘Avengers 2′; Screenings Soon?[/h]
The idea of seeing both of DC Comics’ biggest heroes share the screen has been enough to keep Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in the minds of fans with little marketing besides. Luckily, after several rumors have promised the film’s first trailer to no avail, the latest claims fans won’t be waiting much longer.
According to new reports, the Dawn of Justice trailer will be teased by director Zack Snyder in the coming days, with select theaters holding special screenings the following week (as was done with Star Wars: The Force Awakens). Not only that, but the trailer will hit wide release in front of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
First, the rumored plan, courtesy of Latino-Review‘s El Mayimbe – and confirmed by Collider. According to their sources, Zack Snyder will tweet the first seconds of the trailer at 9am on Thursday, April 16; after which point fans will be directed to sign up for special theater viewings on Monday, April 20.
The plan isn’t entirely groundbreaking, although the fact that Warner Bros. has managed to keep the plan quiet to this point is impressive. While it’s hard to know how much footage (or voice over) can be teased in just five seconds, it’s expected that the theater release will be followed soon after by an online version (whether studio-approved, or not). But its second appearance in theaters will be targeted squarely at the comic book crowd.
Apparently, the two comic juggernauts have brokered a mutually beneficial peace, with the Dawn of Justice trailer set to be shown in theaters ahead of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Considering the projected size of Ultron‘s opening weekend audience, that means the largest exposure for Batman V Superman humanly possibly, if this turns out to be the case. Marvel, DC – fans of either now have a major reason to head to the movies when Marvel’s Avengers next head into action.
The collaboration between the two studios may seem strange for fans – particularly those who feel the executives themselves are as clearly divided as some online fan communities. But as we’ve said before, the Marvel/DC competition means good things for all involved. This arrangement is certainly more surprising than Warner Bros. using the trailer hype to bring audiences to Mad Max: Fury Road, but if true, could help put the Marvel/DC rivalry in a more positive light – not unwarranted, given some of the more… passionate fan debates seen online.
We’ll keep you updated as confirmation or an official announcement arrives, but let us know what you think about the plan – and whether you’ll be fighting to see the trailer when it’s released to select theaters next week.
