I have included too many pictures of the box..haven't i? Rescently i had gone into a frenzy of buying all sorts of PC hardware,but most of the time i end up selling them instead of building a rig for myself (business mind tut tut). But some times i get hardware which i really develop a liking for.This Phenom II processor cost me something like 6000 Rs,and i will try unlocking the other two cores,and with luck i will have quad proc for the price of Mac Donald's Burger.
Too many markings on the box.The hologram says "AMD fusion",and another sticker says "AMD vision".I have yet to Google or wiki (or PG ) these terminologies,but hopefully it will be something good??
During the recent buying (and selling) spree,i got my hands on some serious hardware,Q6600,Asus striker II Formula,Radeon HD 4650, Q9400,Asus Crosshair II 790FX,and many other bits and bobs.
I am thinking of Buying a bench so that i can benchmark all different combination of hardware and post the result...somewhere.

Here is a useful link to another PG like website's thread where they have shared their experience of unlocking and OCing the 550's rest of the two cores.Apparently my proc's batch is there in the success list so there is hope for me.

At the moment i only have the proc and the mobo...asus crosshair III 790FX chipset...Still looking for RAMs and Graphics card...will take some time to complete

X6 is available at little more than the price of the current top dog Phenom II 965.Same is the 890fx chipset.The mobo i bought is 790fx Chipset and costs around 15000 Rs,and 890Fx costs 20,000.But i didn't see much point in buying 6 core,as there is not much performance difference.Same about the 890fx,apart from the 6Gbps SATA,and support for 2 extra USB ports all is the same as 790fx,so once again there was no point in forking out the extra cash. Lets see if i can unlock the extra 2 cores in this proc,and if i can get a stable performance from all the 4 cores.

I bought it boxed with fan in about 7000 Rs.But since i intend to push the proc to its limits,i will not use the AMD cooler and i got myself a Zalman cooler (with flashy LED lights )
If i am lucky and i can unlock the rrest of the cores.That wil be a Quaddy in 7K...How ubber cool

Dual PCIE 16X,thanks to the 790Fx chpset.I was going for the Quad crossfire GD-70 but since it hasnt got much connectivity other than the useless extra PCIE 16x and 8X slots,i opted for Asus.Two useful Crossfirex with three PCIE slts for some useful add ons.like it.

5 SATA and the IDE.Note the ROG logo from the side stil looks like the Eye of the ROG mask.

Esata and some other well known ..er...holes.and a mysterious Rest switch,which is i think for resetting the BIOS if you messed it up

Onboard power and reset switch with another Mystery Mem OK switch,about which i know not.

Some metal plate at the back of the board..apparantly it has something to do with CPU cooling...don't know how.

Finally the LCD post screen and the peculiar sound card.Underneath you can see another box which contains manuals and other less than exciting accessories,and i couldnt be bothered to post a picture of them.

Price tag....10,000 Rs...about...which is much less than the market price of around 17000 Rs...

They are for Start, Reset and Mem OK Buttons.. BTW Nice unboxing sarfiz.. :wink2:

Thats is CMOS Clear button.

The CPU fan Unboxing..or is it Un-Dusting?

Instead of buying a new fan for my yet to be completed gaming system,i digged deep in my drawer and found this Zalman coler which i had bought with another system may be an year ago.It was very dirty so i tried to clean it . First i removed the fan and dipped the copper in water.you can see all the muck floating around.

Next it was time to use whatever kitchen detergents i could find.The zalman can be seen dipped in a mixture of bathroom cleaners,tile cleaner and dish cleaners.Oh well,i wanted to give it my best shot

I couldnt risk bending the flimsy copper fins and the heat pipes with a brush or scrubbing foam,as i would have ended up bending them,so the best i could do was to leave it soaked for a while.
This is the back side of the copper heatsink after i had washed it.Not perfectly clean as the impeller fan has bonded some dust with the copper plates,and that can only be removed by scrubbing.I could have cleaned it perfectly if i was abit more patient and had left it soaked in the soapy water overnight.

The front of the Heat sink is sparkling and all the dirt stuch between the fins is now gone.

Very carefully,with a wet tissue,i wiped the plastic impeller blades.Looks clean? doesnt it?

Now the fan has been fitted back in position.I was worried that during the clean up,i might have bent the steel prongs supporting the fans,but after some testing,the fans seemed to be spinning fine without touching the heatsink.

And finally the little gizmo you get with this pedestal fan type CPU cooler.The fan speed controller.
I dont you where people fit this thing..inside the casing or outside?
