XBOX AMD: Next Xbox Graphics Will Look Like AVATAR

Technology company AMD, who supplied the graphics hardware for the Xbox 360, claims that the next Xbox will be capable of the level of graphical detail seen in James Cameron's movie Avatar. Even on PC, that kind of technology just isn't here yet, but AMD claims the Xbox 720 will launch with it.

While AMD would not confirm they were actually working on the 360's successor, director of ISV relationships at AMD, Neal Robison, stated that gamers have a lot to excited about.

Robison also mentioned that the A.I. and physics capabilities of the next-gen hardware will allow for every pedestrian in a game such as Grand Theft Auto or Saints Row to have a totally individual mentality, meaning when you shoot a gun or run someone over they don't all just do the same thing. There will be no more mob mentality, where everyone just screams and runs away; every NPC will actually be an individual character.

Whoa.

How is that even possible? A single frame of Avatar takes several hours to render on a BIG BIG render farms of Weta Digital.

If the next generation of consoles can't render Epic Games' "Samaritan" GDC 11 demo @ 1080p60Hz in 3D, I will be disappointed. Very top of the line PCs can do it already but in 2 or 3 years, it should be affordable to integrate the hardware into the next generation of consoles.

DHA KARACHI.
Good to see they are focusing on graphics instead of Kinect shit.

That's gonna carry a hefty price though. :p

If they can actually manage to do exactly as they say, that is to run a game with detail as much as Avatar, then it wouldn't be surprising. Cmon guys, we all know thats its been too long since this gen of consoles have been running and there has been a rapid increase in the game development center. Its still a year time we are talking about. I still remember how much it was a leap from ps2 graphics onto the ps3. At the time of the new gen's release, the PCs just aren't up to the mark. That is because these machines are BUILT for the SOLE purpose to deliver that and it takes some time to release PC hardware that can handle them. Atm PC gaming is much better than consoles but isn't that how it always is when a gaming gen dies? Plus, consoles don't really render the frames with the same engines as normal PC renderers. Those engines are built to make the fastest possible renders. But this wouldn't be the end of pc gaming. PCs are ahead of these gen consoles. But when the new console is released, they are gonna be 10x times better. PC will probably reach that mark within 2-3 years.

I'm afraid of the day when graphics will be life like and we couldn't tell the difference btw real life and gaming. And then it'll be like a game within a game...... I should stop talking.

It might give off an Avatar like look to the untrained eye. Heck you can get that done with some mods on the CE2 even today.
It's not just the visual upgrades I'm looking forward to in the next gen, it's the physics and ballistics engine. For a hint, take a look at BF3's trailers for an idea of what I'm talking about. If they can make something pretty that's dead static then it's useless for me.

Isn't it a factor of game design more than being limited by hardware now? Crysis, Bad Company 2, Red Faction: Guerilla/Armageddon, Cellfactor: Revolution, Mafia 2, Mirror's Edge, Metro 2033 etc They all handle accurate physics on various scales.

Besides Bad Company 2, I can't say that any other has got a really good dynamic realtime deformation system implemented. There's long long ways to go. I really do believe it's a hardware limitation.
