[ACCA] Articleships Now Allowed

For those students studying for or considering ACCA, previously ICAP had issued a directive to its member firms prohibiting articleships to students holding foreign qualifications.
The case was presented to Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) and the decision has been in our favor (1).

Good news for ACCA students. But i think after completing ACCA there is not much need to go for Articleship. As there are no papers left, one can start a job and earn alot more than Icap firms offer them.

commiting yourself to a 3 year articleship contract for acca would be absolute bewaqufi.
sure if you wana join an audit firm for quality experience and learning, go for it...but dont sign a contract commiting yourself for 3 years to the firm.

articles are worth it for ICAPs CA or ICAEW...
but dont commit yourself to an 3 year articleship contract coz acca doesnt require you to, nor is it needed..not worth it. just take experience

There is no "commitment" in articleship. Many students leave after 1-2 years even after signing the 3 year article ship contract with ICAP so signing an articleship contract or not is not an issue you can leave whenever you want by giving notice.

i heard that not ACCA but ICAEW students are declined the articles on notice issued by ICAP,is it true?
because in that case i'll go for different optional papers,for ICAEW tax n audit
otherwise no to costing n audit leaves me only 2 options,tax n advance of f9

Although the notice was issued by the ICAP (in the around the mid of 2012 i think) , firms still continued to hire in the september 2012 (i.e after the issue of notice). They did some workarounds, like deloitte started taking ACCA qualified as employees, not as trainees (which was mentioned in the ICAP notice). KPMG hired ACCAs, but the candidates were only required to register (and register only ) with ICAP (same was the case with EY i think). PWC was already not hiring ACCAs even before the notice (still doesnt )...

yes firms know their way to work around for their advantage.
but u probably need a good enough reference. you see, ull have to be 'worth' it to be considered by big4.

many ppl in big4 told me there have been reference based icaew hirings even after the icap notice last year.

ive heard the partners refuse to give leaving req of trainees if they ever request one

yes firms know their way to work around for their advantage.
but u probably need a good enough reference. you see, ull have to be 'worth' it to be considered by big4.

Yeah reference tou khair har jagah hi chalti hai not only big4 lekin merit par bhi ho jata hai kafi logon ka. And yeah ICAEW contract agar achi strong reference hai tou mil jayega ! otherwise its difficult.

and secondly nai yaar usually itna issue nai hota if you're leaving the firm. HR say bas certificate nikalwa lo that you have gained experience from your date of joining till current date and tell them you want to leave. Ho jata hai, itna masla nai hota. Bohat log chortay hain beech main but ofcourse agar panga karna chahen tou kar saktay hain..
