Praises to The Almighty Allah for all the blessings. today I received my long awaited Sennheiser HD 800 S, the top tier, Summit-fi Flagship Headphones from Sennheiser.
these are the symbol of excellence in Heaphone world for what they offer. Unrivaled and unmatched audio experience is what these are meant to provide, and HELL YES THEY DO!

just received them today along with my Schiit Stack.

unboxing experience in itself is satisfying.
the Titan Black color give them stealthy look and shout sexiness.
in person, they seem heavy. but in reality they are only 330g and when I wore them I swear I thought they weigh half then my Hifiman HE 400i which are 370g!

just have few hours of listening to them and I can feel how they got all their praise and love!
I can testify, I have never had such and Maximal audio experience in my entire life! I just cant explain how they sound, no I REALLY cant. you have to experience them to believe the level of eminence they have.
they fit entirely on my head as if it were human hands. the head band feels as if its not there the moment I put them on.
hand made ear cups covered all my ears with out any touch of the cushions. and its deep enough.
they are extremely well build, no issues there.

transducer is encased by stainless steel. the 56mm Ring Radiator Transducer is the Biggest ever used in a dynamic driver.
these are an upgrade over previous king of Headphones HD 800. carrying over all their prowess and adding tiny bit more bass.
what happened was HD 800 had resonance peak at 6KHz making treble a little shrieking.
but then again who wants to know that here anyways


inside box are 6.3mm Jack connector, XLR 4 Balanced Cable (these alone cost $380), Microfiber Cleaning cloth, Manual and USB drive with the registration and real measurements for my HD 800 S.

i just bought an hd800 a month ago... would have gone for this but importing wasn't an option as it would have driven the price up and the sterile detail was what i was looking for(also short on money due to home theater purchases)... anyways, you listened to the hd800? what do you think is the difference between the two? i have heard that 800s has slightly better extension in the bass.. maybe a slightly warmer signature?

[MENTION=127675]chipmunk2020[/MENTION]... dude why did you buy that schiit stack if you had that o2/odac combo? the difference isn't going to be that much... why not get at least a lyr2 for the amp? amp is the second most important thing in the chain and then comes the dac... and a tube amp would have been perfect for it... anyways, congrats on all the 4 things you have bought... have you listened to any other hifiman headphone? i have the he500... how does it compare? i am running my stuff with audio-gd 11.32 right now... will shift of wooaudio in the future or maybe the amps by sennheiser itself(or maybe a subwoofer for my speakers instead )

$1700 is not too much for what these offer, trust me! there are cans out there that cant even touch this and they cost double or more! this is the Ultimate one for its price to value!
and i dont think you can get anything 'awesome' per say for 5K PKR. IM NOT SAYING YOU CANT GET A HEADPHONE, pls dont take me wrong, but 'awesome' is what u said right?
i myself would be selling out my previous headphones i have. i have a Sennheiser HD 518 which i will be selling soon along with my Beyers and Hifiman. others will be expensive, but HD 518 will be cheaper than others.
HD 518 is the entry level Audiophile grade headphone, on Sennheiser's own website! its excellent headphone with low impedance, 50Ohm which means you can power it with your phone as well. if you are interested in getting that we can have a deal before i post here. i got that last year 24th April 2015 so technically its not even a year old, and i used it very rarely as i had other headphones. PM me if interested.

did u get HD 800 from Pakistan?
i visited Dubai last November and had a session with HD 800, stock, for about 10 mins. now that i have this HD 800 S i know why everyone selling their HD 800 at least abroad for this one.
comparing two, as far as i can remember, HD 800 has treble like when you mix Beyer's DT 990 and DT880. extremely clean, but a bit shrieking at the very highs. i would not call that 'ear piercing' as some people quote, but its there. its noticeable since the sub bass is a little stifle.
this on the other hand, OMG! rather OMFG!
its clean, like CLEEEEEEEAAAAN! bass is pounding, quite a lot like Planars.
i also have Hifiman HE 400i, new, its sub bass is thumping, when i got that i thought there is no sub bass like this one, EVER! but nope, HD 800 S is close to perfection! i literally cant believe Dynamic can deliver such a sub bass. it feels like some voodoo shit what they have achieved with this miraculous of a headphone!

O2 ODAC combo is powerful no doubt. but it does not widen HD 800 S. there is stereo no issues there but depth, not so much.
Asgard 2 and Bifrost are considered to be one of the best combos to drive these HD 800 S out there, at least with quarter inch connector. i dont like tube amps. i just dont. they cost a lot and you never know when any tube might give up on you, and then replacement. its too much of a hassle. and there is not much of a gain with these tube amps anyways.

honestly i would recommend you not to get woo audio, im sure u must be looking at fireflies ain't you? *wink wink*
almost everybody who owns them said they dont sound better than half their price Class A amps.
Asgard 2 is a Class A amp and is well regarded when paired with HD 800 or HD 800 S.

I would have gone for it if it wasn't a hassle importing, and not the sound signature i was looking for. Hd800 are like the only flagships(i would have gone for the hd800S if it was available but they are new so it will take some time for them to come here) that are available in pakistan so i went for it as the wire for my he500 was busted. In the month it took to get the wire, i got these babies and now they have become my main headphones(even though i am more into speakers right now, i still listen to these). And the best thing about these hd800 is that they are damn awesome for gaming(due to that frightening imaging qualities). I am thinking of wooaudio as they tame the highs a bit and it can be helpful. I might go for the sennhesier recommended hdvd800(simply because it is available in pakistan) but they cost even more than the headphones and as a rule of thumb you should spend the most on your speaker/headphone than the other parts. And getting better headphones was not the agenda as i needed detail and these are always considered the most sterile detail oriented headphones. The other more expensive headphones of audeze and hifiman are actually less detailed but more pleasing in the sound signature rather. And to beat hd800 for detail, you might have to get those electrostats which i would never get as i would get a 4000 watt dual 18" earthquake causing subwoofer for my home theater. Where do you live though?

no bhai, i didnt pay $380 for cable. it came inside the box. with HD 800 (the old model) there was only quarter inch cable inside. for balanced out puts, u had to buy the balanced cable Separately. now its in the box of HD 800 S

im from Karachi. ya pretty much that but i should add here that you never know what can go wrong with modding and stuff. like just take example of my 400i. its said that they sound "Almost" like their flagship HE1000 BUT with a shallow and tiny imaging. there are mods that people do, by cutting a aluminum bin with bigger holes to get wider stage. but there are cases where many messed up with foil, or magnets. its risky.
HD 800 S dont need any mods. there are HD 800 PLUS smoother highs and extended sub bass.
again i would not recommend you or any one Tube amps. yes they might be more musical, but at the cost of clarity. get a renowned Class A amp and you are good to go. nothing compares to tightness of Class A amps you should know that!

just to add a little NaCl to your burns, yes with a little bass. but HD 800 S is actually KING of vocals. male & female voices have sublime semblance. especially Qari Syed Sadaqat Ali (R.A) Qirat of Surah Rehman (remastered to lossless) is just inexplicable! it feels like something out of this world!
and my favorite Qari, Sheikh Mahir Al-Muaiqly (R.A) O.M.G! those are three letters i can explain his voice on these!

i don't care about bass myself, in a headphone, neither do i listen to music much... and if you ever had used these things then you won't say stuff like this... it is for clarity, i use it for movies/series/gaming...

i was never a music guy after my university days. I just listen to music like once a couple of months for 5 minutes lolz. Most of the music comes from the soundtracks. And you are right, our ears don't register an upgrade as well as a downgrade. I was into budget headphones with great sound once, then i went to an hd650 and stayed on it for months. Just one day i listened to my old headphones and said "throw away this crap" to myself. The soundstage and imaging is just amazing with these. These are considered to have the largest soundstage in headphones(much more expensive electrostatic options only come close)... incredible incredible imaging and detail... just mesmerizing really... and due to these quality, THE BEST GAMING HEADPHONES ON THE PLANET. So damn light with good grip on the head, unlike planars. I actually laugh and cringe, at the same time, when i see those 5.1 and 7.1 gaming headphones.
