Okay, this is carrier aggregation - in several parts of Pindi and even in Phase 8, but not near my place (most likely because of the interference?). 25Mhz combined.

And 3G is on 2100Mhz only (since you need 5Mhz for 3G, and the aggregated 4G is 20+5Mhz, so it's either this or that... And while I don't care much about 4G at my place - even though it's plenty fast at crap signals - I'm glad I can make calls in case of an emergency).

Damn they finally realised 3 MHz of 900 MHz was utterly useless.

Good to know Jazz is the only telco with its head on straight.

I have already ordered but still how is the service? Is there any occasional disconnects like PTCL? And how is after sale service?

Random disconnects are very rare. If there is some planned maintenance or upgrade on their end, they usually inform you in advance via email that internet / phone / TV will be unavailable for a certain period of time while they make changes to their network.

Their support is good, sometimes you'll come across an agent like the ones from PTCL who are completely incompetent, but in most cases they're quite knowledgeable.

In my experience, if there's an issue that you think the phone agents won't understand, send them an email and the case will get assigned to the appropriate team, and they'll call you back.

The aggregation of B3+B8 is weird, it only happens on some phones.

My phone refuses to even see 900 MHz 4G, but my dad's Galaxy A70 sees it occasionally, and this morning I saw 20 MHz B3 + 5 MHz B8.

However it's usually only in the morning, his phone never does CA later in the day, after 1-2 PM.

I remember this article someone posted in this thread a few months ago about some Huawei tech that allowed the use of the same chunk of frequency on different technologies. So the same chunk of 900 MHz could be used for 2G or 3G during certain hours, and for 4G in the mornings.

Well - I don't know if it's a time-based frequency allocation (who knows, but I doubt that's the case because Pakistan... And Mobilink), but I've seen CA more often than not (there are a few places where there's no CA, like my home).

I wonder what the situation is like in the other cities.

No CA by Jazz or Zong in Faisalabad.

So...while Mobilink is still faster than the other operators, they've started witnessing black holes in more places than before.

Agreed. I think decommissioning some of the Warid sites wasn't a great idea.

Their 4G works pretty well even with poor signal, but poor signal means it keeps dropping back to 3G and it destroys the phones battery with high idle drain.

I don't think they're decommissioning all sites - they're using the Warid sites for 900Mhz GSM, since they're using their own spectrum initially for 3G, and then 4G, and now... nothing. I don't see any 900Mhz 3G or 4G on my phone, nor do I see any carrier aggregation.

I think the blackholes are owing to unplanned-for construction, and the only way to let them know is to complain. I tested today at my house, where the signal strength on 4G was -119 dBm (absolutely piss-poor) and I managed to get around 1.5MB/s. And it's become this poor because of this building that was constructed some months back between our house and the tower, and thick layers of concrete is the worst enemy for radiowaves.

Or electromagnetic waves - the power plant/graveyard in phase 8 has absolutely horrible speeds (averaging around 4-6Mbps). But that's because the power plant is next door...

And operators in Pakistan don't believe in giving out portable devices to boost signals, nor will they launch VoLTE, nor will they enable wifi calling (since both can coexist) and not realize they can reduce the load on their towers (if at all) by using the broadband infrastructure at offices and homes. But what would I know?!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Interesting thing I observed with Zong yesterday - and I'm not sure how or why. I don't have a Zong SIM to test right now, but I'm sure my phone isn't THAT bonkers.

The phone wouldn't aggregate these two bands (sometimes, even though it doesn't connect to the tower, carrier aggregation kicks in). In fact, ever since the Covid-19 issues, the phone hasn't been aggregating!

Either my phone's infected, or the networks have slowed down/done something. Carrier aggregation increases capacity, not reduce it.

Guys need help I solely have to rely on 4g internet either Zong/Jazz, recently during evening time the speed is so low I only get 2-3mbps out of zong.

I use both Jazz and Zong devices that I have both 150mbps cat4.

I can get this ZTE device that supports 300mbps and carrier aggregation, will this benefit my situation or its just waste to get another device ??

It'll help if you have both band 3 and 8 (for Jazz) or band 3 and 1 for Zong in your area.

I think not. Due to huge load on mobile network these days specially in peak times, every network is struggling to provide good speed. This is why networks asked pta to allocate them additional spectrum temporarily during pandemic.

shaheerk Has your phone ever done CA between Jazz B3+B8 since it launched?

I think I figured out the issue.
