Definitely. The M50s are awesome for rock. The bass response is great and overall they are very comfy as well. Get them.
Well guys, do dig in a bit more before you jump in. At the price the M50x are, there are other options. I have a few pair of headphones and right now I cant even remember which drawer I put my M50x in. That... is how I have to treat them.
Look at a couple of more options. First define the purpose:
Do you need them for mobility? Yes? No?
Will you use an Amp? Cuz ur amp will be at such a loss with the ATH-M50x.
Overear or on-ear?
How much do looks matter to you? Cuz I hate the street looks of Beyer Dynamics, and you'd look aweful out there, but it's just hard to beat their offerings in different tiers, and they have $100 to $1200 cans that rival offerings in almost all price ranges. Can't go wrong with em.
So many other cheap options are there. I once got $50 Symphonized Wraith (metal frame, wooden back cups) and they're really nice for the price.
Earphones? I have bought many, and honestly, the $5 VE Monks beat shit out of most. They're open-back, and just natural sounding (though compromise over the bass area). The monks are like smaller Sennheiser HD598s or something. And I got them 3 times now... that is how much I'm loving them. They're priceless, though they're buds, so choose your IEM form factor, too.
You guys may wanna check out HeadFi.org for a lot more info. Here on PG, there's hardly ever any talk on professional audio. Only some guys get high-end cans. Most of us fall for commercial stuff. ATH-M50x trumps any beats, but it's hardly a start in audio fidelity. As I said, my least preferred pair. Takstars/Kingston HyperCloud/ISK2000 simply are better. SoundMagic HP-100 (closed) and HP-200 (open) for almost ATH-M50x prices are kickass.
Ask me for more info in particular if you need to. M50x? Ideal for monitoring and professional audio work. For general listening and fun? No sir. I don't recommend it - not when u can get better stuff than that for the same money. Check my unboxing and review threads. They may help.
