From my perspective, The Phantom Pain is only really lacking when it comes to presenting its story via exposition filled cutscenes. The details/explanations are present, should you wish to piece them together. It's just a different style of storytelling that probably doesn't suit the series.

That said, I thought that it had one of the best

Spoiler: show
plot twists in MGS history. Even though I saw it coming (thanks to the prologue face editor), I still thought it was well executed.
Dude, I gotta disagree with the execution bit there,
Spoiler: show
I mean sure the prologue was well made and it was really good at hinting at the truth without giving it away, I initially believed that Ishmael was a figment of Venom's imagination. buit the way the truth is actually revealed at the end is terrible. All you do is play the prologue again, unchanged in it;s entirety with a cut scene at the end which is basically equivalent to animated version of you playing a tape on the idroid. That all could've been done better.

At the very least, they could've shown Solid Snake coming after Venom at the end. I like to think that the gunfire outside is actually SS infiltrating Outer Heaven and Venom is told the truth at the very last minute, he now knows he's fucking screwed and has to go out there and get killed by SS. Makes it alot better for me :tv:

Or simply the fact that he....

Spoiler: show
....isn't Snake to begin with.
That shouldn't be the reason for him to barely speak.
Spoiler: show
He did believe he was snake and all.

You know what, I thing the same about the ending after reading some theories/explanations on net. When we see the tape and hear gunfire outside, we jump ahead to 1995 and SS is probably causing a ruckus out there.

i did 90% of the missions at night just because it's a lot easier to get around and avoid detection.
Ditto. They can detect crazily far in daytime.

But there were a few changes during the initial sequence involving the doctor. The aim was to give you more insight on what happened, and I felt it did its job there. That said, I do wish the player had been given control of Ishmael instead. Seems like Kojima made it a point to ensure the real Big Boss is never playable in this game lol.

That's pretty much what it is. When Venom punches the mirror, notice how it reflects a different logo (Outer Heaven) on the door behind him. He was acting upon the real Big Boss' instructions since listening to the tape, but ultimately got screwed over for it.

That shouldn't be the reason for him to barely speak.

Spoiler: show
He believed it, but was still a different person and probably one who didn't talk much. The real Big Boss was certainly more talkative, as evident from Ground Zeroes, TTP's prologue and true ending.

But Big Boss didn't really talk much in Ground Zeroes either. Except for in the tapes and the beginning of the mission.

Yeah, that would've made it a lot better tbh.

I'm sure main reason was Kiefer Sutherland was WAY more expensive than Hayter and Konami didn't wanted to churn out the cash for more dialogues. They be cheap.

^ The game's budget was already exceeding 80 million USD, that can't be the reason. Maybe Kojima just wanted to hire Keifer so he could hang out with him, must be a big fan of 24.

If you take TPP as just the story of Skullface's arc, it ends pretty solidly at 31. The rest was all extra meat, but people had built in an expectation over the years that this game is the one that will tie into Metal Gear.

Most of that is Konami/Kojipro's own marketing department's fault, most material pre release (including a release trailer on official sony channels) puts statements like "The final chapter in big boss's downfall" etc and makes it imply that this game will tie into big boss becoming a villain.

At the end, that story arc is given maybe a minute or two max, then nothing.

Anybody willing to play Metal Gear Online from next month? Speaking of which, who played MGO back in MGS4's era?
it will only gonna release on console for next month for PC it will be at Jan 2016 or more, hell oh my mistake, so it will be in OCT for PC as well. Beside those whom complaining about that the game is so easy or not so challenging, just turn of the marker display option along with alert and so on, then try to clear a starter mission, I bet they wouldn't, as for that reason there is no difficulty setting there, so you may set your own limit, if you want to play in hardcore mod, then disable reflex as well.

Currently at mission 30 and this is probably the peak of the story. The story was so intense right after mission 21 till 29 (haven't started 30 yet).
Mild Spoilers Ahead*****
The game does so well in reminding you about the phantom pain. The infection spread at Motherbase was a stark reminder of what phantom pain really is.
This whole phase was executed really well.

The code walker mission was the best one so far. Which ones yours?

As you guys are saying that shits gonna go down hill from here, well I am gonna hold my expectations from mission 31 onwards.

What I really miss here are the Codec conversations, found yourself stuck somewhere? Lets just press a lousy L1 button and keep hearing same from Miller which offers little to none help. Previously we could like talk to anyone we like, looking for tips to beat the mission, or if you were getting lonely.

I can't understand why it was removed altogether. Pressing a button would have opened up a menu just like the buddy command menu, from there we could have selected a codec convo.

The game for me is hovering around a 8 ...lets hope it gets better.

Anyways, D Walker is probably the worst of all buddies...even with the scouting head, the range is just shit. Quiet on the other hand is the most useful one and makes infiltrations a bit tooooo easy once you unlock the suppressed tranq sniper.

I have heard there are a few secret cutscene as well. So far I have unlocked the Paz one and have only heard about the Quiet scene, how do you unlock that?

I think my favourite mission is 43. LOVED IT!!
Missions 28-31 were also great.

And I agree, D-Walker is the worst buddy. I didn't even used it except for in mission 31.

As for the quiet scene:
Spoiler: show
I didn't even know it was a secret scene until I heard about it online. I just got it randomly when I came back to base. Just regularly return to base after missions with quiet and you should get it.

Ahan alright thanks for that tip!

About the cassette tapes, well since mgs4 faced major criticism for its long cutscenes and codecs, Kojma made it so that you can like hear them when you are not playing over the app or over YouTube (thats what I am doing). Nonetheless it still is riveting, the cassettes are a good why to get your fill into the story even when you are away from your game.

Anyone tried running the Game online on Steam? Hows the experience.
You mean the FOB missions?

The online has been stable for a few weeks now since Konami finally got its shit together.

Also, finally made some progress. Subsistence missions are the best I wish I could attach that prefix to every mission I wanted. :(

In reference to the hidden cutscene that I accidentally found on the Medical Platform, what the fuck Kojima?! That was way too important to be left undiscovered.

Also I found many other doors on Motherbase which are locked. Did anyone unlock those?

yeah found no way to unlock those doors..as for med bay, if you are worried about being left out of that part of the story keep visiting the area after you acquire a new memento item

Internet says they all unlock at some point in the story. I agree, otherwise there's no point to show some of them as locked.

So I played some MGS 2 & 3 over the holidays because I didn't have my ps4 and still needed MGS. Man do I miss the structured story of the past games. I love how far the gameplay has come, but Kojima went too far with cutting back on story.
I've never considered him a 'genius'; but I think he made too many wrong decisions as far as story telling goes with TPP.
