R9 390x 8gb is better in same price give or take 500rs.

390x was supposed to compete with 980 I think. 970 is more on par with 290x but 970 has the edge there. There really is no reason to prefer 290x over 970 unless you are an AMD fan.
390x I think for 980 and Fury x was hyped to destroy 980ti. It can barely compete with it.
Now this is confusing some saying AMD Releasd 390x to compete some saying 290x is there to compete 970
