WT* LUMS student found dead in hostel room

Now this is very disturbing. I have been attending Conferences there from 4-5 years. Never thought an Institute like this had so much undergoing.

A student of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) was found dead in his hostel room on Monday.Defence B SHO Ziaul Haq told The Express Tribune the student died due to heroin overdose. “An autopsy will not be carried out as requested by his family,” Haq added.

In a note to students and faculty, LUMS administration said, “It is with deep sorrow that we are writing to share very tragic news: Our MIMS student and hostel resident Shahmir Asif Bajwa has passed away.”

140 grams of heroin seized at LUMS

Shahmir was found ‘unresponsive’ in bed in his room on December 12. LUMS administration was informed immediately after he was found and Shahmir was immediately shifted to National Defence Hospital, where the doctors said he had expired earlier during the day.

Shahmir’s family reached Lahore from Karachi today as they were unable to earlier due to fog. A resident of Karachi, he was a student of Accounting and Finance in his fifth semester.

sad but the truth is that lums as of lately the hostel etc is high grounds for drugs and sh*t, bags of cocaine druges being found is now common there.

I dont think heroin is legal.
This will only taint the unis name.

Neither is alcohol, in Pakistan.

On my limited visits to LUMS I've seen a host of beer cans and whiskey bottles scattered around bushes and in a few trash cans. The heroin scandal where an outsider was caught with 140g? or so heroin was also not something very surprising. This is increasingly common. And it doesn't end here. It's not just limited to these two things...

Also, don't fool yourself into believing that this only happens in LUMS. I know at least 5 other uni's across Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad where I know reliable people who are either eye-witnesses to this stuff or are consumers of it. We're only an Islamic country with no narcotics on the facade.

Was shocked to learn about this

happened with one of my far cousin. he was a very bright student, went on a trip with some classmates and on the way back they give him something bad that which affected his brain and then he loses his memory and from bright and intelligent student he became dumb and wasn't able to study after that

Well in university hostel's it is quite common stuff. They do all type of stuff there.
Its not about LUMS only.

I think Islam isn't the main issue when it comes to Heroin.

It's heroin. The health hazards alone make it a no-go, regardless if you're a Muslim or not.

Drugs, in some part of Pakistan, are considered more of a way of life than something bad

I mean in places paan (crewing tobacco), gutka, niswaar, hashish isnt even looked down at.

Lums is a prostitution place instead a drug store except those who seriously study there, same scenario in other universities especially hajvery, pay some cash and enjoy, no one ask u credit hours, present in class etc.

LSE is another place for such illegal activities. I see peasants lingering there who paid university and they did xyz.

people just hate on it cause they cant really get into lums.

It is one of the few best universities out there in Pakistan and even perhaps Asia.
