Hi,

First of all Ramadan mubarak to everyone :D............I hope everybody is doing fine..........Ok now to the question. I am looking to share my ptcl dsl connection wirelessly (not using wifi modem service from ptcl) between 2 computers (host and secondary computer).

I don't have experience in internet sharing but i have searched and found that i would be needing the following stuff (correct me if i am wrong):

1. A Wifi Router
2. A wifi adapter for secondary pc

I have shiro modem and i intend to buy tp link router and adapter..........The questions are:

1. Has anybody here used the same hardware with ptcl and if yes, how is the performance (same as before or inferior)
2. the distance between primary pc and secondary pc won't be more then 8-10 meters, so i guess i shouldn't be facing any signal strength issues with the default hardware.
3. Somebody tell me a brief process to setup this network.

Thanks and waiting for your replies.

1. I'm using a TP-Link router with a 4mbps connection. I use the only 108mbps which TP-Link offer in Pakistan. The performance is decent but it never give you signals more than 75%
2. You won't notice speed problems but you might lose signals every now and then MAYBE.
3. Connect the router with the modem, connect the router with the PC with another Ethernet cable. Open router's page on the PC and change default ip to 192.168.1.3 or similar.

Here u go Plz Follow These Simple Steps:-
1. Connect the router with the modem..by the LAN cable.
2. Then Connect Ur PC with and another LAN cable which should b inserted In ur Router.
3. Change The Ip address of ur Router. For Example:- if ur PTCl modem has this ip 192.168.1.1...then u should give 192.168.1.2 this Ip to ur Router..to avoid Ip Confliction.
4. Set the Wireless Setiings in ur Router.
5. And there u have it.

Note:- Wireless Singnals may increase or decrease....but dats not the thing to worry.
Where as if u want to get a Powerful Router with long distance signals...then i would prefer u to get Linksys Router or D-LINK Router. Dont go for Tp-LINK...bcuz of its..cheap price....that router is totally bullshit....as well as wastage of ur money.

thank you for the replies.

@abrar....brother, you are the first one i have heard bad things about tp link, everyone else is very satisfied with their routers. Secondly, range is not an issue because as i said, the distance between the router and secondary pc won't be more then 8-10 meters.

I have another question, by making this setup, anyother wifi device like cell phone, laptop will also be able to access the internet using the same connection? Moreover, can i password protect the connection in tplink router?

Also, will i also be able to share local files within the two pcs via this method by enabling file sharing?

Yes multiple devices can be connected to it at the same time, Yes you can password protect your router and I'm not sure about file sharing but you most probably can and dude I agree with Abrar, TP-Link routers are not good, If you want performance then linksys is the way to go.

I strongly recommend you go for a good brand router like Linksys, D-Link or Netgear, despite the increased price. The control panel on these TP-Links is utter BS (I've seen my uncle's old TP-Link, maybe the newer ones are better). Looks as if they've asked a douche with no networking experience to design it cuz all the options are really mized up and they screw up the terminologies in many places. it'll take you half an hour to figure out where the correct field is for editing a certain parameter. Not to mention Linksys have much more added functionality like security.

P.S. Either way, just remember to get a router which has external antenna. Those sleek black ones with internal antennas may look good, but give crap signal strength. My Linksys WRT54GR has 2 big fat antennas sticking out and I get 100% signals even 10m away (with multiple walls and objects in between).

For security:

- Put in place a 20 character WPA-personal AES type password.
- Disable SSID Broadcast so your network name is invisible to an outsider
- Prevent access to the router control panel to wireless clients.
- Setup MAC address filtering, only allow your machines to access the WiFi; by default, all other devices will be prohibited.

There, you're perfectly safe.

yar...mai nai kaha tha na...k yea bht he fazool router hai...TP-LINK. App even world k top ten Router's ke companaies k naam dekh lo... app say mai bet lagata hun...k tp-link ka naam app koi nai millay ga.

Where as yes u can share ur data on multiple computer's. But u just need to create a WORKGROUP...for easy data sharing. And yes u can connect your consoles, cell fone and laptop through ur Router Wirelessly. For WIFI Security...i would recommend u to select WEP key....bcuz this very difficult...to break...by a network hacker. Where as u could also try WPA-2 also. Its totally up 2 u.

i hav 1 mb dsl and using it with nokia 5800. even on mobile it gives me full speed.. works on 2 floors.. i m satisfied.
but still i suggest u buy tp.link wid wireless N @ 108mbps if u want to transfer files between 2 pcs
my transfer rate is 4-5mb/s.. wid 108 it might b 10mb/s bit for full speed, u must get a wireless N card for ur pc too ...

Three standards:

Wireless B: Worst, can't carry more than 5-6 MBPS of data while sharing, has low range.
Wireless G: Better than B, can carry around 50-60 MBPS of data while sharing, has decent range.
Wireless N: Currently best in the market. Can carry over 200 MBPS of data. Has best range in all models. But range ultimately depends on router model and antenna etc...

Every internet device comes with an ethernet cables, they are really cheap if you want to get extras. A 5 foot one costs 30rs.

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
