which SCB account for me?

Consider the following first:
I'm 23, medical student and no salary yet. I need online banking, no profit, debit card which works online of course.

Which account should I go for? What are the charges for online banking and debit card? Whats the minimum amount to open the account with? Other charges? etc.

Minimum Deposit: 5000
Online Banking: Free
Cheque book & Debit Card: probably cost 500 or 1000 (i forgot the exact amount), you can't do online shopping with that card, you have to apply for Gold Card..
Other Charges: 1000 yearly for Card, 50 Rs monthly if your Account balance went below 5000

well you can buy online with the SCB saadiq debit card .... it works fine and ive ordered numerous times on all websites ... it doesnt work on google checkout though ... and as far as i remember . there are no yearly charges on my saadiq debit card .. minimum balance is 5000 ...

You can. It costs 500 for the debit and it CAN be used online. Some online retailers such as amazon have issues, but it works fine generally. I have the Sadiq debit, the SCB classic credit and the Easy saver debit. All work fine, and the credit works with Amazon, google checkout and all

As you are a student, get a student current account. Its exactly like your normal current account but you dont have any restrictions i.e minimum balance, salary status etc

Just go to the branch, and tell them that you are a student. They'll fill the form for you ( i did the same and my account is awesome, ). Mobile banking is free as far as i can tell, but the charged me 8xx for online banking. I've used the debit card on 7-8 sites online and only faced a problem in 1(i dont know why).

last month i open a new current islamic account in Standard Chartered and so far i am totally satisfied with their services.

I get following things FREE from SC:

Online banking
SMS banking
E-statements
Transactions

They asked me Rs.10,000 for opening an account, later bank guy told me now people can open account for free no money required due to new bank policy in this budget. Although, they charged me around Rs.580 annual fees of my debit card. Oh yeah they will charge you for cheque book as well but i skip it coz i don't need it Rest almost other things are free.

Why i open account in SC? just bcoz of two reasons. 1st their visa debit card works online so i can buy games on steam store 2nd their services are excellent.

just curious, how am I going to buy anything from amazon like a mobile or a laptop or ipod etc? Whenever I proceed to checkout they say that the item cannot be shipped to current address you specified. How is the credit card going to help in this case?

I am getting Current Islamic account, went to their office yesterday, deposited a cheque of 10k as required. The representative told me the following things
Maximum annual charges on credit/debit card is less than 400
Free 1st cheque book
ATM card for 300rs but you will get extra 200 on your first transaction through ATM.
No extra charges on card even if I buy anything worth 30k or more. They will not charge anything.
no minimum balance
zakat will be deducted if you have 25k or more in your account.

i also have easy saver,u wont get cheque book but who needs it,u can withdraw through ATM card
