which processor should i buy ?

hello dear PGers please tell me which processor should i buy i am making PC for gaming purposes ... here is the processor's


Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E8500 3.16Ghz (6MB CACHE - 1333MHZ FSB)
OR
Intel® Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 2.40Ghz (8MB CACHE - 1066MHZ FSB)

e8500 for me,, q6600 has 4 cores but ,, games dont use that many cores.

im no expert in this but ,, i was planing to get a q6600 myslef,, but i didnt cause of that fact that i would have had to overclock it.

cause games now support 2 cores,, and i would have had to overclok it to 3ghz approx.

besides u can upgrade ur processor in the future , in like a year or 2.

majorty games require 2 core n will do for quite sum time.

in future, GPU manufacturers are planning to shift CPU load to GPU as this shall enhance the gaming experience to lag free and immersive gaming. Moreover, Intel plans to release processors with graphics processing units by 2010. So, card manufacturers shall try to bring somethign that rely on processor minimally. I fail to understand how a game shall process its graphics primarily from processor even if processor is 10 core...there is always a limit to what a processor can do and what a GPU can perform.

Agreed..but if you are into some grfix editing then you shud get this otherwise E8500 is best for gaming out there

Q6600 is quad-core... BUT its a 65nm processor.
More heat, more power consumption.

E8500 rocks.

See, if it was a question between E8400 and Q6600, my answer would have been different. But E8500, you say ? Forget about the rest. Even if you are concerned about future, all you'll need after 2-4 years is an expenditure of around 2,000rs more for a good aftermarket cooler and there you are doing 5.0Ghz+ on your E8500, crunching numbers like worms....

But then again also remember that to overclock your CPU to the level I have mentioned you'll need either:
P5K-V (~9,000rs)
P5Q (~11,000rs)
P35 Neo-3 (~8,000rs)

I should add, it was slightly pre-mature on my part to very easily claim 5.0Ghz overclock, this is not so easily done, and on second thought I dont think it will be possible on air-cooling.. You can keep 4.5Ghz in your mind, and yes with a good CPU cooler, you can get there....

thanks ateeq for the info i dont mind 5000 for colling system after 2 years but the problem is that E8500 is not available at galaxy at this time i hope it will come soon and for motherboard i was thinking to buy P5K-VM is there any big diffrence between P5K-VM & P5K-V and P5K-V please define and this board is also not available at galaxy

but is E8400 not a better choice? for E8500 you will be paying extra 1200RS just for a 160~Mhz increase...

"bijli ki parwah kis ko hai KESC ke karam se wasehi aati kam hai" but this is not kool that i hav to pay 1200Rs for 160~Mhz 1200 main to 1 Ghz ka P4 ka processor aa jata hai lolz.............

For gaming buy E8500 and if it is not available than buy E8400 (not much difference between the two).

As far as your question about the motherboard is concerned if you can find MSI P35 Neo 2 FIR/FR that would be better than both P5K-VM and P5k-V. Try to buy a full ATX board instead of a micro ATX board. For chipst P45>P35>G33.

Quad core is no benefit now, no software in market supports it now, and approximately for next 2 years too. Dual core is enough to get the best performance.
