AOA guys,

Thanks to Allah i have received admission in both LUMS( electrical engineering ) and University of Waterloo ( electrical engineering co-op) and both their deadlines are at the end of this month. I am really confused ATM in decided between these two. On one hand LUMS is a cheaper option , closer but has weird rumors about its engineering degree whereas waterloo is way more pricier but has a good degree and their co-op program is supposedly very good and chances of getting a decent engineering job in canada are much higher than pakistan. Any suggestions or advice? Really looking forward to LUMS alumni here. Do pray that i I.A meet my conditions , thank you!!!

The comparison is illogical, you are comparing a top notch internationally recognized university to LUMS which has limited recognition abroad. If funding is not an issue then definitely University of Waterloo. And you are right about its excellent co-op programme- I have heard of people getting job through that programme.

If you can't afford Waterloo fee then LUMS in my opinion is the best university in Pakistan for EE followed by NUST.

I also suggest Waterloo University only if you afford it because their International fees are to high, I am also thinking about applying their after my graduation.

Yes, NUST and LUMS graduates do get good jobs here and even abroad (mainly middle east). Pakistan needs engineers and these vacancies are filled by local graduates mainly and that too from the top notch universities.

I do know many.

If your good at during your uni years u will get a job . Lums SSE was ranked around 300th world wide right after its FIRST batch graduated . The problem is not the university you go to, the issue is : can u cope up with an engineering degree. I mean srsly, ppl graduating from all sorts of universities do get Great jobs , even if it be PIEAS .

Can you think of any reason why waterloo would be better than LUMS for an UG program ? I honestly can't .
Academics : Both unis have highly educated professors who got their PHDs from the likes of MIT etc
Labs : Well, i would probably say that waterloo MIGHT have better labs but by how much ? .... maybe only slightly better . So i wouldn't worry about that.
Scene : Well, LUMS probably has one of the best mahols in pk ....
Job prospects : Ok so listen up, LUMS offers electrical engineering specialized in microelectronics and communications . There is not a single course of Electrical Power engineering. If that is what you want to be then you might need to reconsider LUMS . And as long as Electronics is concerned, i would say their demand is limited in pakistan, so yes that might be a solid reason to choose waterloo over LUMS .

You need not worry about job prospects right now . Who knows, by the time u graduate electronics become common in pk (depending on how well the sharif brothers govern )
