Plz explain What is Earthing? How to do it?? Is it necessary?? As my friend told me that if my pc is not earthed properly it would get damaged soon.

Note : i cannot touch my case unless i disconnect power cord. It shocks.

yes it does shocks....
basically earthing means to ground a wire coming right from the peripheral being powered so that whenever there is excess current in that device it may pass directly to the ground and not to a human body when it touches that device..
it's essential abroad but here unfortunately people don't take it seriously..

i remember some smart azz guy earthed a wire to a metal pipe (water supply pipe)...
next door his neighbour's child caught the shock off the metal water supply pipe and died because of it..

it is vital but it must be done carefully, until then enjoy a little shock therapy :)

Wait a min, died off a SHOCK FROM THE EARTHING?! Woaah! Did the dude connect the live current there? I dont think its possible to die from earthing on a pipe :O

if you want to earth your case, just connect the earth connection in your case with a simple wire and put the other bare end of the wire pinned under the table leg or something. that would be enough.

necessary? depends on the safety level of your device. as far as a PC is concerned, i haven seen anyone having a proper earth connection here in Pakistan except for industries.

If you earth your PC (i mean your PC case then you wont have those shocks when u touch it but they can also be avoided by wearing slippers, or standing on a carpet (and not touching the wall :p ) when you touch your PC case.

PS: proper earth would mean that there is a proper earth (ground) connection (like 20-50m deep), and the third pin in the socket (usually the bigger one the the top) be connected to that earth connection

Well this isn't much of a problem just pick a steel nail and hammered it in the floor. take any wire and connect your PC case with this nail, you will never fell any shock when you touch your PC.

Wait a min, died off a SHOCK FROM THE EARTHING?! Woaah! Did the dude connect the live current there? I dont think its possible to die from earthing on a pipe :O
Actually every live wire need a ground and our home electricity has its ground near the transformer( a small wire going into the ground). so a loop is formed (current comes from transformer and lose its energy in electric appliances and goes back in neutral wire and get grounded near transformer). so by this loop our electric meter(Wapda meter) works. But some smart people earth their neutral wire with in their home so the loop doesn't complete and the wapda meter which it self is a current transformer stops working and no matter how much they use electricity not a single unite is dropped. this is the most modern way of bejli chori. so some achieve this bejli chori by making water supply pipe as their ground which is extermly dangerous. current always flow least resistive path to the ground and pips not always goes directly into the ground. so any body who touches pipe before it goes into the ground will experince serious shock. may be the guy died due to this reason.

well i do get them ..lolll ..best way is to wear slipers . and dont touch the case with a wet hand ..trust me ..it gives a jolt ...i will ground the damn casing my self .

just take a normal copper wire / or electric wire and just attach it to a scew on the casing and the other end ..stuff under the table edge or some thing heavy on the ground ..thats more the enough ..

but be care full

Earthing Is Done For Human Safety...............!!!!

The Proper Way And As The Name Comes...........It Goes Deep Inside Ground So It Can't Hurt Anyone.......!!!
All The Electrical Peripherals Are Grounded So In Case Of Short Circuit Or Live wire Touching With Bare Metal.......Human Body Don't Get Shocked And The Live Current Drains Down Into Earth........!!!

Best Way Is To Get Atleast 3-4Ft Metal Rod(Conducing Current)..........Nail It Into Ground And Connect Wire On The Popout End........!! And route That Wire To All Your Grounding Point....!!

Connecting Earth With Grills And Naked Water Pipes Is Quiet Risky And Is Somewhat Useless Too And There's Not Enough Metal Many Times To Suck In Much Current In Case Of Short Circuit....So It Can Possibly Become A Live Current Conductor Itself And Can Be Dangerous.......!!!

Its Not Usually Damages Hardware Unless Circuit Is Being Shorted ......!! The Risk Of Anything Being Shorted And Get Damaged Is Always There.........But It Can Create Distortion Somehow On Devices Likes Modem

why take a wire all the way to the grill? why not just press it under your table leg which is alot easier. but connecting it with the grill will also work.
and it wont damage your components if you don't earth it. Its just for the case that when you touch it or something else (which can conduct electricity) comes into contact with it; current wont pass through you or that thing but through the earth connection.

Hey what if i connect it with a Fan hook?
which fan hook? ceiling fan? then again yes it would work but wouldn't it be difficult to connect it there? :p

That's not possible nowadays bcoz of an RCD

Press it under your table unless theres carpet /wood / any non conductive material beneath. Use ur wall or grill.

As far as pc earthing is concerned, it works on 12v, hence no possible risk of death by touching the railing :S

And yes, i've seen lots of RAMs (including my own) and gpu's die out because of non earthed pc's.
