I'm looking to upgrade my 2nd gen i5 (2400) and intel motherboard. I intend to keep everything else as it is. My main use is gaming and a bit of light motion design/video editing from time to time. I've got a max budget of 25k and referring to used goods is certainly on the cards. Should I try my luck and go for one of the entry level i5 6th gen processors or consider my budget and loom in the 4th gen side of things?
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately jumping to 6G Corei5 will require to change your RAM as well. Intel Sixth Generation processors (Skylake CPU) comes with LGA1151 socket and the motherboard has DDR4 RAM support. It does contain DDR3L support but the boards are very rare to find.

Now shifting to Core i5 6400 will cross your budget easily unless you are planing to adjust second hand items. You can go with 4G Intel processors but in future their motherboards will be hard to find. Like nowadays new 2G motherboards are unavailable.

Oh, wasn't aware about the part about the RAM. I can obviously sell my current 8GB sticks but I'd still have to dish out a little more cash. What I'm wondering at this point is if a non-K 4th gen processor is considerably worse (mainly in gaming) than a 6th Gen processor? As long as I get a motherboard with a few years warranty I don't think availability should be an issue.

Don't know man, i say let a little more cash gather, and go for the ryzen series, 1500x. It is 189 bucks on amazon and newegg. I mean gaming aside, i am sure the cores and extra threads will prove to your benefit specially in the video editing and stuff

Local availability is the main issue. I don't know why AMD isn't common in Pakistan now.

@Alaw banda Its true Ryzen is good investment but local shopkeepers are stuck with Intel Pros. Right now there are few suggestions from my side.

1) Go with Core I3 7100+mobo+8GB DDR4 RAM for around 26K
2) Core I5 7400+mobo+ DDR4 8GB RAM for 31K
3) G4560+mobo+8GB RAM for 20K. You have to look for items around. Search PG Market Place. This setup is best for gaming purpose. Cheap and vibrant.
4) Core I3 6100+mobo+8GB RAM for around 20K.

Will probably save up for a 6/7th gen system at this point. Thanks for all the replies lads

BTW, i started Ghost of Tsushima, and it got me hooked within the first couple of minutes. I already know It's gonna be a memorable experience. This is how you make a proper Samurai game. Not that SJW game Ubisoft is making.

That's still higher than it's total play length. A 5 hour campaign for a $50 game is downright scammy.

Consoles were my main platform ever since Atari 2500. But now I think it's not worth it as PC especially with DLSS deliver far smoother performance. AW2 on console didn't even had ray tracing and ran below 30fps. Similar issues plagues DD2 on consoled.
The cross gen era really made people think 60fps would be a new standard lol

Welp, done with Hellblade 2. Thoroughly disappointed. Such a nothing burger after the unique experience of the first game.

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

Both PS and Xbox have been a flop this gen as they can barely maintain 30 fps in a lot of AAA games th.

As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.

Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Just downloaded my first legit digital PC game on GoG at a discount of $8: Two Point Hospital. The same team behind Theme Hospital Two Point Studios now part of Sega. And I am having more fun than most recent AAA games except of course BG3.

Still, I don't like either Sony or Microsoft as they are focusing more on corporate greed than delighting customers. PC gaming is best of gaming and worth every penny.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
