Updating Galaxy S I9000

I have recently bought a Galaxy S I9000. It has android 2.2
Should I upgrade to 2.3 ??
If so how
Any Help will be appreciated

well first u decide u need a custom rom or official rom............

custom rom are much better then officials.

so if u like the official rom then download Samsung kies and plug ur phone with cable and follow the instruction by kies to update.

if u need custom rom then its totally different......

first u need to decide search google.

Let us know if you succeed to get it updated via kies. I tried alot to update my i9000 but it never worked for me owing to some region issue.

Thanks for clearing some confusion in my mind. Will definitely upgrade to gingerbread today and will consider custom ROMS after getting bored with stock OS.

^ Head to Darky and download the Darky's 10.2.2

Do read the Two Guides before flashing, because first you will have to flash the Ficeto's Gingerbread ROM via ODIN from PC. And THEN flash the Darky's 10.2.2 from the Phone using Darky Rom Tool.

I have succesfully updated to 2.3.3 via Keis.
You might be having some other problem. May be some Custom ROM interfering or something else.

it came with 2.1, today i updated through kies mini, and it has got 2.2fw ,
why it didnt update to 2.3???????

i connected again to kies and the update option is disabled and says am already at latest fw,.

Because there is no 2.3 from AT&T . And galaxy S vibrant is AT&T only

He was half right.
You didn't get any Gingerbread update because Officially, 2.3 is not available for Vibrant.
So your best bet will be going for a Custom ROM, anything like a Cynogen Mod, MIUI etc.

There aren't much variety for Community Support when it comes to Vibrant, so you'll have to search a couple of forums yourself, and find something as per your likings.

Bottom line is ... Custom Roms are tweaked to Perform Faster, allow more customizations, some are Pre-Rooted ... basically they better for real life usage.
But do check User Comments before finalizing a ROM.

the link u provided was pretty helpful, well i am bit lazy on googling on all those stuff............... a short question for you, which custom rom(safe) u recommend me to install in my galaxy s vibrant sgh t959?
a link of tutorial will be appreciated
