Receiver: Yamaha RX-A550 5.1 Aventage network AV receiver
Front Speakers: Bose 301 Series V Direct/Reflecting speaker system
Surround and Center: Yamaha NS-P60
Subwoofer: Yamaha NS-SW300PN Subwoofer
The Yamaha RX-A550 is feature rich and supports everything from 4k UHD pass-through, HDCP 2.2, WiFi, Bluetooth, MusicCast, AirPlay, USB, etc. A lot of settings to tune and listen to all the frequencies (20Hz-20kHz) the speakers and subwoofer can handle. The configuration menu looks pretty dated but there is a mobile app for the normal operations which is pretty advanced.
Using the Bose 301 speakers as front and even though they are capable of producing reasonable bass, I have configured the receiver to pass all the low frequencies to the subwoofer. Personally I am not a big fan of Bose and actually dislike the cubes but these 301 bookshelf speakers are a nice surprise. If you want bose..ditch the cubes and get these!
The surround and center speakers are the Yamaha NS-P60. They are not as powerful as the Bose but provide everything you need to complete the surround setup. The Bose 301 provide good mid range and compliment the center speaker so the combination provides crisp vocals which do not get lost in background music.
The Yamaha NS-SW300PN is more than capable and produces as low as 20Hz frequency. As I have configured the front and surround speakers to only use high frequencies, all the bass is sent to the subwoofer which gives extremely clean voice, music and heart thumbing bass without any crossover. I listened to everything from Bose, Harman Kardon, Polka, Infinity and only Yamaha NS-SW300 was able to produce lower frequencies so clearly.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this setup and would suggest the same if you are building one specially the receiver and subwoofer.
I am utilizing this setup with Sony XBR-55X700D (4k UHD HDR) and Xbox One S. This can do everything minus 3D. I bought a HTC Vive so that would be a better choice for anything 3D anyway
PS: Some reviews say that Sony XBR 700D cannot do HDR and it is partially true when you buy the TV. There is a recent firmware update from Sony for XBR 850D and XBR 700D which enables HDR10 for both. I checked using Xbox One S before updating firmware and after updating and it does indeed show HDR10 enabled for games and apps now.
Enjoy the unboxing!
