To forum members:
Stop recommending BitComet to Noobs coz bitcomet is notorious for not following torrent rules and many trackers have banned it.
I recommend using uTorrent 1.8.5, or use Azureus/Vuze...U can also try older versions of uTorrent 1.6.1 when it was not acquired by BitTorrent...because Bittorrent is notorious as its owned by some movie authority in the US or something
First of all, there are two cases:
1. Ur on DSL
2. Ur on Local Cable network
For DSL users:
If ur on DSL and u have ur own modem, then get you need to set up a static ip on your pc and forward ports
http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
search for your router/modem, then search for the torrent client u use, then follow the procedure.
after this, hopefully u'll have average speed.
If you still can't forward ports (i.e you see a yellow exclamation mark in uTorrent), try enabling DMZ, but I wouldn't recommend it because it opens ALL the ports which is highly unsafe. (this also works for online gaming)
It makes your computer's ports as if there is no router in between
For LAN Internet Users:
Check this link, test all Service Ports
https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
the red boxes are the ports ur lookin for (open ports), put any of those ports in the client settings. (dont put port 80 or 21)
For Both type of users: DSL and LAN Internet
check this link : http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992
and ask all the torrent related questions here plz, no more new threads, I am on LAN internet, and before optimizations, i got 15-30kb/s dl, now i get 40-50kb/s!
*note* threads asking for torrent help will be closed from now on
