ok, since I have some spare time, here's a few game play impressions, hopefully this will give a good idea of how the game plays to the people still on the fence.
- Linear mode : Like I said in my last post, every story sequence is highlighted with a big set piece, linear platforming area. This is what you can say, a very Uncharted experience, big shit falling all around you, you running, jumping and climbing on falling objects etc. There's been plenty of footage of these events in the trailers, so you guys should have a good idea of how this plays.
- Explore mode : After every linear sequence, and to reach the next story segment, you traverse wider "zones", these are the areas where majority of the explorey game play takes place. There are tons of collectible items in the world, "masks", diary entries, data caches and .., yes, hidden tombs to explore.
These areas are laid out more like an assassins creed game, among the unlockables, you may also find a map of the area which lists all the available unlocks on your map to hunt down. You also encounter animals, both wild and passive (deers, rabits and shit), which you can kill for experience points and "salvage".
Pro tip : one of the first level up perks lets you get double EXP for every animal you kill and skin, this is definitely a good one to get from the start.
- Combat : Combat is fairly standard, but you get the bow at the beginning. The bow is silent and your stealth "gun" basically, one clean head shot from the bow (without even needing to pull back on the string) is more than enough to take out a human enemy, animals can take 2 shots on average.
Pro tip: you cannot retrieve fired arrows until you get the perk that lets you pick up arrows you've fired onto enemies. This is really handy.
Combat is very standard, you get a gun not that far into the game, but gun fire attracts a lot of noise and enemies can throw molotovs if you're hiding behind cover, fire can kill you very quickly. It's far better and advised to use the bow for majority of the combat too.
Presentation : I have to give extra marks here. Everything in the game is voiced, any item you pick up, any diary you find, there's complete narration to it and at the end Lara gives a few lines of her own thoughts on what she's just found too. Really good touch. Also, every time you hit a "camp", Lara narrates a nice little summary of what has happened in the game so far, and she, again, gives her thoughts on what's about to happen.
There seem to be a LOT of unlockable items in the game, which is good.

Unfortunately my gamer instinct made me press Y during that scene
though there are some pretty nasty kill animations in other places, also the game is pretty gory.
