[h=1]Pokémon Go breaks iTunes record, Apple confirms[/h]

[h=2]Clash of what now?[/h]

There is still no official word on the number of times the incredibly popular Pokémon Go game has been downloaded, but Apple today confirmed to Polygon that the game has broken a record.
Pokemon Go has had more downloads in its first week than any other app in history, Apple said today. The company declined to give any specific numbers. Nintendo referred us to The Pokémon Company for any such data .We've reached out to The Pokémon Company for more specific numbers and will update this story if they release them.
Launched earlier this month in North America and hitting Japan just today, Pokémon Goquickly soared to the top of the charts on iTunes and Google Play. It’s currently listed as the top free and top-grossing app on both mobile storefronts.
Estimates put the game’s revenue at anywhere from $1 million to $2.3 million a day.

An App Annie analyst has told Inverse that the firm could see the game pulling in a billion dollars a year once the server issues are smoothed out and the game launches worldwide. The game is the fastest mobile game ever to reach the number one spot for revenue on mobile stores, outpacing even Clash Royale, according to App Annie and VentureBeat

[h=1]Pokémon Go isn't strongly affecting Nintendo's bottom line, company says[/h]

[h=2]At least not yet[/h]

Pokémon Go is a massive hit from both a mind share perspective and a financial standpoint. But while many people associate anything Pokémon-related with Nintendo, the company said today that the game’s success isn’t having a material impact on its financial forecast — at least not yet.
"Because of [Nintendo’s equity in The Pokémon Co.], the income reflected on [Nintendo’s] consolidated business results is limited," Nintendo said today in a note to investors.
Nintendo’s market capitalization has doubled since the launch of Pokémon Go
Following Pokémon Go’s debut in early July, the game quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. With every new country that it launches in, it rockets to the top of the App Store charts (including Japan, where the game arrived earlier today). That applies for both popularity — Pokémon Go racked up more downloads in its first week than any other app in the history of the App Store — and revenue, with analysts estimating that the game is raking in millions of dollars a day.

The stupefying success of Pokémon Go has provided a massive boost for Nintendo’s financial status. The company’s stock price jumped 25 percent during the game’s first week of release; last Friday, Nintendo became the highest-traded company in share value this century, with 476 billion yen ($4.48 billion) of Nintendo stock changing hands. Nintendo’s market capitalization has doubled since the launch of Pokémon Go, soaring from approximately $20 billion to $42 billion.
However, Nintendo doesn’t make Pokémon Go, and industry analysts say the company’s earning potential from the game is relatively limited. Here’s why.
When people ask who made Pokemon, here's a chart with the actual answer pic.twitter.com/G2JItLqzzu
— brandon sheffield (@necrosofty) July 19, 2016

Both Apple and Google take a 30 percent cut of sales on their respective app stores, so 30 cents of every dollar spent on Pokémon Go in-app purchases goes to either Apple or Google. Niantic Labs, which was previously owned by Google, is the developer and publisher of Pokémon Go. Niantic licensed the Pokémon brand from The Pokémon Co., which owns the rights to Pokémon and also worked with Niantic to make the game.
Nintendo, Google and The Pokémon Co. invested $20 million in Niantic last fall, with the promise of an additional $10 million if Niantic met performance milestones. (Niantic has not disclosed the stakes that those three investors hold in the company.) Nintendo owns 32 percent of The Pokémon Co., with fellow Pokémon Co. founders Game Freak and Creatures Inc. holding the remainder.
"the income reflected on Nintendo’s consolidated business results is limited" Nintendo will soon have a direct hand in a Pokémon Go-related enterprise: The company is producing and distributing the Pokémon Go Plus, a $34.99 wearable accessory for the game (image above). The Pokémon Go Plus connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth and alerts players if they’re near a PokéStop. The device is scheduled to be released by the end of July.
However, Nintendo said today that its financial forecast for its current fiscal year — a forecast the company made back in April, well before the smashing success of Pokémon Go — already accounted for Pokémon Go and the Pokémon Go Plus peripheral. At the time, Nintendo said it expected net sales of 500 billion yen (down 0.9 percent year-over-year) and operating income of 45 billion yen (up 36.9 percent) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017.
"Taking the current situation into consideration, the Company is not modifying the consolidated financial forecast for now," said Nintendo.
We’ll see if that changes after the release of the Pokémon Go Plus.

[h=2]Here are the team leaders for Pokémon Go[/h][h=3]Character art revealed at SDCC[/h]

Shown in the game only as silhouettes to this point, here is the final artwork for the three team leaders in Pokémon Go. It was revealed this afternoon during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

#PokemonGO Team Leaders revealed! Team Valor: Candela. Team Mystic: Blanche. Team Instinct: Spark. pic.twitter.com/j05H5K0tfY
— Pokémon GO (@PokemonGoApp) July 24, 2016
So there you have it: Candela is in charge of Team Valor (red), Blanche is captain of Team Mystic (blue) and Spark is the leader of Team Instinct (yellow).
Niantic's John Hanke said during today's Comic-Con panel that the team leaders' final art wasn't finalized before the mobile game's launch, hence the silhouettes.
Pokémon Go launched on July 5 in North America, Australia and New Zealand and has become a cultural phenomenon in the three weeks since. Pokémon Go recently went live in Japan and is awaiting the launch of Pokémon Go Plus, which introduces a wearable peripheral that helps the user catch Pokémon.

[h=2]Nintendo's share price plunges as investors realize it's not Pokémon Go's sole owner[/h][h=3]Stock drops 16 percent in first trading day after reminder to investors[/h]

On the first trading day after Nintendo told investors how much it really owns of Pokémon Go, the company's share price plunged 17 percent in the Japanese market.
Nintendo's stock price still is up more than 60 percent compared to what it was before Pokémon Go's July 5 launch. Still, Nintendo's reminder of how much it owns of The Pokémon Company, and therefore the limited nature of its revenue from Pokémon Go, helped shave about $6 billion off the company's market capitalization.

Two weeks ago an analyst noted that Niantic Labs, The Pokémon Company (of which Nintendo owns 32 percent) and Nintendo jointly developed the app. However, app stores will also take a cut of any Pokémon Go revenue. The analyst estimated Nintendo itself only gets about 10 percent of that.
Nintendo also told investors on Friday that the financial forecast it made back in April already accounted for Pokémon Go and the upcoming Pokémon Go Plus peripheral — which Nintendo is developing and selling itself. That is, the craze notwithstanding, Nintendo said it is not changing its financial forecast — which called for net sales of 500 billion yen, down 0.9 percent from the previous fiscal year.
Pokémon Go has launched in North America (except Mexico), Europe, Australia and New Zealand and, most recently, Japan. Anticipation of the game's Japanese launch made Nintendo's stock the most traded in a single day over the past 16 years, and boosted the company's stock price about 25 percent during Pokémon Go's first week of release.

[h=2]Pokémon Go Plus delayed to September[/h][h=3]A couple of months more[/h]

The release of the Pokémon Go Plus, Nintendo's wearable accessory for Pokémon Go, has been pushed back to September, the company announced today on Twitter.
Nintendo originally planned to release the Pokémon Go Plus in late July; the game, which is free-to-play, launched earlier this month. The company did not give a reason for the delay, but an educated guess is that the phenomenal success of Pokémon Go caused Nintendo to take more time to make enough units to meet the demand for the peripheral. While the game is developed by Niantic Labs, Nintendo is producing and distributing the Pokémon Go Plus.

The Pokémon Go Plus, which is compatible with both the Android and iOS versions of Pokémon Go, will cost $34.99. It is designed to allow people to play the game without having their smartphone out — the Bluetooth-based unit, which can be worn as a pin or with a wrist strap, lights up when Pokémon and PokéStops are nearby. For more details, check out our explainer on the Pokémon Go Plus.

[h=2]Pokémon Go player deletes account after hitting level cap[/h][h=3]"I learned so much out of this"[/h]

Much of what we know about Pokémon Go, we’ve learned through playing the game. Yet others have mined its data to discover that there is a current level cap in place, and Reddit user Problemz proclaimed he’s the first to hit it. In a series of posts, the player explained how he reached level 40 — and said he plans to ask Niantic to delete his account.
Problemz used an unspecified program to help him gain the 20 million total experience needed to jump from level one to level 40. To get from level 39 to level 40, a player needs five million experience points alone, he said. He was able to get 280,000 points per hour with the help of bots.

"I purly [sic] went for XP/h," Problemz wrote. "Nothing else. I used a total of 131 Eggs ([five] x 25 Pack - and i think [six] from leveling)."
Using the lucky egg item increases experience gains for a half hour. Players receive them upon leveling up, as well as have the option to purchase them from the in-game shop.
Other things of note from his playthrough: He caught 574 Pokémon, visited more than 7,000 PokéStops and battled against zero gyms. (His achievements list also suggest he only caught six Pikachu, but the achievements feature can be finicky.)
Despite his success — thanks to bots or not — Problemz announced he was done with the game.
"I don't play this game — I just wanted to see how far I can push with the given tools," Problemz wrote. "And I learned so much out of this."

Players can’t deactivate their accounts through Pokémon Go itself, but there is a link on its website to file a termination request.
Thanks to that, Problemz’ maxed out account is no more, according to a screenshot. Find out what it takes to level up your own trainer (up to level 30, at least) in our guide.

Lahore, Model town
Hey guys, what's the best pokestop grind in Lahore?Currently the best route I could find is on car in model town (route shared below).. It allows me to get ~5 pokestops in a 20 min circle. But I think 1 pokestop every 4 minutes isn't much and since it's on car I can't really catch pokemon during the travel and it doesn't count much towards hatching eggs.is there any better route? Thanks in advance.PS. [h=2]Pokémon Go fans rage as tracking site shuts down, footsteps glitch 'fixed'[/h][h=3]Pokévision says it is 'respecting Niantic and Nintendo's wishes'; closure may be indefinite[/h]

Pokévision, one of the most popular tracking websites for finding Pokémon in Pokémon Go, appears to have shut down, a week after the CEO of the studio that developed the game warned that such services may no longer work.
Forbes and then Kotaku both noticed the closure early this morning. Pokévision was not affiliated with Niantic Labs, Pokémon Go's maker, or the app itself. It was a third-party knowledge base that revealed where specific Pokémon would spawn on a player's map and how long they would be available. Pokévision's FAQ said its data came straight from Niantic, which may have been a violation of the Pokémon Go terms of service.

In an interview with Forbes last week, John Hanke, Niantic's CEO, called the use of these sites and services cheating. "People are hacking around trying to take data out of our system and that's against our terms of service," Hanke said. He added that players "might find in the future that those things may not work."
That day seems to have come for Pokévision, though its administrators are being vague about what led to the closure. Early this morning, Pokévision tweeted this:
Hey guys. We wish we had some news for you

At this moment, we are respecting Niantic and Nintendo's wishes.

Will keep you guys posted

<3
— Pokevision (@PokeVisionGo) July 31, 2016
Pokévision addedthat "we kept it up as long as reasonably possible. Maybe things will change in the next few days." Kotaku contacted Pokévision's owner about the closure, but he gave vague answers as to why it was taken down. He told Forbes "it possibly could be" shut down indefinitely.
The closure is particularly upsetting to Pokémon Go players who not only feel they have done nothing wrong, but also suffered through the "three-step" glitch that incorrectly showed all nearby Pokémon as being the furthest away from the user. That was, incredibly, "fixed" by simply removing the one-, two- or three-steps indicator and showing only what type of Pokémon was nearby, without any idea of proximity.

Users are pouring out their anger through Twitter and Pokémon Go's subreddit. We've reached out to two Niantic representatives to ask about the studio's role in this closure and its response to fans' anger over the footsteps issue and Pokévision's shutdown.

[h=2]Pokémon Go trespassing spurs lawsuit against Nintendo, Pokemon Company and Niantic[/h][h=3]Gotta sue 'em all[/h]

A New Jersey man is suing the companies behind Pokémon Goafter discovering that a augmented reality Pokémon in his backyard was attracting strangers to his home, according to the suit.
Plaintiff Jeffrey Marder says that Niantic placed Pokéstops and Pokémon gyms on private property without the owner’s consent. He said he discovered this, according to the suit, after strangers began lingering outside his home with their phones in hand.

"At least five individuals knocked on plaintiff’s door and asked for access to plaintiff’s backyard in order to ‘catch’ Pokémon that the game had placed in Plaintiff’s residence in West Orange, New Jersey — without plaintiff’s permission," according to the suit.

The suit, which is seeking class action status, goes on to note that Marder’s situation isn’t unusual, pointing to a slew of other examples including that of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., which became the unwanted home to some Pokémon .
Marder says the players are interfering with the use and enjoyment of his home. He says that developer Niantic as well as Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are profiting from a game that can have players traipsing through private property.
"To create that immersive world, Niantic made unauthorized use of Plaintiff’s and other Class members’ property by placing Pokéstops and Pokémon gyms thereupon or nearby," according to the suit. "In so doing, Niantic has encouraged Pokémon Go’s millions of players to make unwanted incursions onto the properties of Plaintiff and other members of the class — a clear and ongoing invasion of their use and enjoyment of their land from which Defendants have profited and continue to profit. "
The suit asks to include "all persons in the United States who own property (i) the GPS coordinates of which were designated by Defendants, without authorization, as Pokéstops or Pokémon gyms in the Pokémon Go mobile application or (ii) abutting property the GPS coordinates of which were designated by Defendants, without authorization, as Pokéstops or Pokémon gyms in the Pokémon Go mobile application."

At the heart of the suit are two pretty straight forward legal questions put forward in the July 29 filing:

  • Is the game enticing people to trespass on private property?
  • Are the defendants profiting from that?
Niantic, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have 21 days to respond to the suit. (You can see both the suit and the notices below.) We’ve reached out to all three and will update this story when they respond.
