murtaza12 So a small isp has popped up in my town, they are providing FTTH connections with Huawei Devices. I just want your thoughts on how they are handling things. So instead of digging and laying down fiber they are using the poles. Are there any Fiber wires which can survive the above ground conditions? Their Wire Seems to be Thick which makes me doubt if it is even fiber at all. Is it possible that they are lying and using copper wire for the poles and just using Fiber from Pole to the home? Does that even work? Also they are getting their bandwidth from multinet which i think uses transworlds fiber.

The packages they are offering are quite bad TBH. They arent offering a fixed bandwidth for their packages just like nayatel. These are some of their packages.

1 Mbps to 2 Mbps Both Up & down = Rs 1000
2 Mbps to 4 Mbps Both Up & down = Rs 1500
3 Mbps to 6 Mbps Both Up & down = Rs 2000

They are offering upto 100 mbps connections. To me the speed is quite low compared to other isps. I spoke to the tech guy on the issue of the varying speed. I asked him about like at what time will i experience these speed boosts, he said it will be random. Im getting a connection to tryout anyway. Im really fed up with PTCL. Installation charges are Rs 4500 which again are low compared to other ISPs.
It is probably FTTH, some other ISPs like StormFiber use fiber on poles where digging isn't feasible or not allowed.

They can survive most stuff, but if someone sabotages their equipment and cuts their wires deliberately, that's a different issue.

2k for 'Up to' 6 Mbps seems like a bit of a rip off to be quite honest.

yeah exactly. Their packages need to be remodeled tbh. I will try to get a fixed 6 mbps connection. Thanks again for your help :)

How long does it take to get new phone line and broadband installed the old one to shut down completely? And are there any charges for shutting down old connection?

Just called the PTCL exchange to check there 'progress' of GPON. And guess what, a month more will be required. I think this colony is cursed lol.

I saw some splicing people in lalarukh nishtar road lane # 1 last week, dont know if they were doing home installation or something else, but there was something definitely being done with wires (fibre wires)

sorry i meant lalazar, lalarukh mein tou almost complete krdi hai
Yeah I was wondering where is this nishtar road in lalarukh. Well, yes a guy in my street (Jinnah road) is working on those handholes, he was placing some tags on it and said it will take 15-20 days more.

UPDATE: I emailed Omer Shah and told him about all the delays being caused by PTCL regarding GPON installation and now I have received a call from them (don't know whether it was from exchange or not as the landline is not showing the number) and the guy asked the address and told me that the team will visit your house tomorrow for the fiber installation. Don't know what's going on. If the network is not ready then how are they supposed to install it. Maybe they will just install the cables and other equipment and will activate it after 15-20 days?! Anyways fingers crossed now!

Not interested in smart tv by the way as the cable provider is already providing the digital channels through the STB in 720p. Anyways, yes, even if they only install the wires and equipments in the next couple of days I will happily wait for 10 days more for it's activation.

So i got the connection, The speed is stable, they arent using huawei ONUs its some Chinese brand but their packages suck, They have removed the "upto" and now its just constant speed. They dont have the bandwidth yet as per IT guy. 2400 PKR for a 4 mbps connection :V I'm gonna test them for a month or two and see if they upgrade these packages and see how it performs over the course of month or two. According to the IT guy, they are still in the process of getting the bandwidth from Transworld currently they are using Multinet.

I dont see them taking off unless they revamp their packages. They make ptcl look good xD

Fiber wiring and router installed finally. Now the splicing team will come up in a while to do their stuff. One thing I cannot figure is out is that how the landline will get it's connection? murtaza12 ATM there is only one cable going into the router and the box thingy.

On the bottom of the ONT, there are two ports labeled TEL1 and TEL2, or something like that, you will connect your landline phone to TEL1 for it to work.

Thanks.

Yes it's the Nokia one. So if the router is powered by the UPS, the landline shouldn't be dead during load-shedding, right?
