+1, I totally agree here. Instead of giving out higher speed packages, they should 1st improve their current situation.

Yeah, their exchange are starved of bandwidth and you can feel it on peak time. They should focus on increasing their exchange bandwidth along with upgrading their network infrastructure.

I upgraded to 6 Mbps vdsl yesterday and the lineman installed the new ZXHN H168N router. Internet is working fine and I'm getting close to 6 Mbps on all devices except my MacBook. The problem isn't the internet but my router's connection to MacBook is very unstable. At first I wasn't able to even connect to the wifi on MacBook but after searching on google I found out that the problem maybe the wifi channel and changing the wifi channel solved the problem and I was at least able to connect to the wifi.

Sometimes I get full 6mbps, sometimes I get 1 or 2 mbps and some times I can't connect to the internet at all while every other device is showing 6mbps on speedtest. I tried pinging my router when I was having low speeds and I was dropping most of the packets and when I couldn't connect to the internet I was dropping all the packets sent to my router so the problem is definitely my connection to the router.

I've tried every fix on internet forums but nothing worked. Tried changing the wifi channel to no avail although some worked better than the others. I've only one macOS device so I can't say if macOS is the culprit but every other OS like Windows, android and iOS is connecting to the internet properly. A lot of the sites are saying that this problem occurs when the router is of bad quality.

What should I do? Should I complain to PTCL? but if they're using the same model of router for vdsl then changing the router won't do anything.

Try assigning your Mac a fixed IP from the DHCP settings.

Also, does wired work any better?

Could it be that your DNS is playing up? (Just a thought)

What channel is your router set to right now?

If you have smartphone, use WiFi analyser to see what channel is free or at least one that isn't as crowded as other channels and set your router to that.

Also, channels 1, 6 and 11 are the only real WiFi channels available on 2.4 GHz, the rest are just sub channels that overlap with the real ones.

I'm currently on channel 11 which seems to be the most stable one. Tried every other channel including 1 and 6 but I can't even connect to wifi on both these channels. I used a tool on macOS to see what channels other wifis were on and I was the only one on 11 at that time but still I was having connection problems.

fiberlink is available in my area since last 2 years but i never tried to get it due to bad reviews and long installation time.
I have no other choice ... Nayatel is not expanding the coverage .. secondly , my installation time was delayed coz my order was booked early , the person who booked my order resigned after 4 days of booking my order ... I know he just did it for his sale and thats it .. otherwise all my friends in areas where fiberlink was available got the connection in 20 days and they are enjoying the services for 3-4 months without any disconnections or downtime ... Fiberlink is working really good in rawalpindi .. its just my bad luck that I didnt get the connection yet ..hopefully it would be done soon :(

Not true, their exchanges are not starved for bandwidth but its their decades old copper lines that can't handle so much data simultaneously (most obvious during peak times).
Move to FTTH and bandwidth problem is gone.
Anyway, these new packages are for FTTH users not for copper. Until your area is upgraded to GPON you can expect poor service. You can maybe get 50 Mbit on VDSL (i have in the past) but that's pretty much max you will get.
Pissed that i would have to pay 1000 extra for my 100 Mbps package now but i kinda understand considering rupee lost 40% of its value against dollar in the last year.

yes main problem is old copper infrastructure and GPON will solve this problem.

I just spoke to their helpline because the speeds weren't upgrading - judging from their SMS, it seemed we could upgrade our speeds for 5 days for free, but that's not the case. The speeds are apparently effective Jan 1. And the SMS says the existing 20Mbps package will cost 3200/month.

So - some trickery going on here. 20Mbps price being raised to 3200/month. 25Mbps ALSO costs 3200/month. Both packages have the same facility/features - but you have to call them to upgrade your speeds (otherwise you'll be on the slower speeds package).

Typical PTCL. Typical profit-making companies.
